Look, we can all admit that our main issue is offense and shooting. We cant just fire Archie for some other coach who we dont know for sure could do much better. I say we dont blow this thing up, stay the course with Archie but encourage or demand a coaching staff change to include a shot doctor/offensive guru. These players on this team were not all bad shooters in high school and the only player we are adding right now is Franklin and will he be able to contribute much next year. We need an addition to the staff to improve our offense and shooting.

We said the same thing about Crean! He needs to upgrade his assistant coaches, never happened.

None of the roster was considered great shooters. Romeo scored In high school the same way he does now. Team needs an upgrade in talent at the 1-2 spots and they needed a healthy davis to let Morgan play the 5

Morgan's defense at the four position is lacking a bit and running a double post clogs up the lane for Davis, Morgan, and Romeo. Really do need shooters to keep other teams honest. At least Smith didn't play much that helps drastically as the other team can't play 10 feet away fro him.

Wish Juwan would have developed more perimeter skills.. but he didn't. Need to question skill development by the staff at this point because none of the upperclassman really improved much.

Davis does though help defensively because he has the size to play behind post players instead of having to front the post like Juwan does which is basically giving the opponent a free defensive breakdown on every possession.

It's just a team made of mismatched toys and redundant roles. Our three most consistent scorers, all have to have a clear lane to be successful. We don't have floor balance.

Really need a point guard who is a threat to score immediately and early in sets, Phin will be that guy as he gains experience but he isn't there yet..Most teams just play him to pass..and he doesn't stress the defense much at all.

We played so much better when our guards were pushing the ball downhill, attacking early in the clock, instead of when we got into pure half court playing side to side and stood around. This team needs to play aggressive early in the clock and use quick hitters, it's too limited to execute after the D is set up.

IU can watch the Tenn LSU game with about 7 minutes left in regulation. Tn has the ball under their own basket, LSU sets up to defend, LSU center sees teammate out of position, takes said lost player by the waist and moves him to the right position by the endline where lost player’s man was standing, open, ready to get a bunny.

We just saw a stone cold shooter last night in Bohanen. Plays hard and steps up to make shots when the game is on the line. i don't know if he played AAU Ball or not or how many Stars he was rated out of high school. i do know that he is from an Iowa High School, so they found him in their backyard. I made this point before but it bears repeating. Instead of spending your time chasing AAU tournaments and 4 Star recruits, spend some time in the State High Schools finding this type of player. Instead of obtaining a bunch of 6'7" wings with big star ratings who can't shoot, find a couple of players like this. I don't care how high they can jump or what their Star Rating is. If they can handle the Ball and shoot effectively, I want them on the floor.

There ARE kids like this playing in Indiana HS gyms every year. Yes, they are needed at IU.

Why cannot we fire Archie? Is there some kind of written rule about that? Is this just some stupid protocol that IU follows?

Other schools fire guys after 1 or 2 seasons. Plenty of schools don’t accept miserable results. Is this strictly some asinine policy that only IU follows? Hell - coaches get fired mid-season.

You know what IU’s “unique” approach to athletics has gotten itself in the past decade?

“No, no, no.....we do things our way. We are cutting edge with the Bill of Rights.. We prefer not to sell alcohol. We offer our coaches contracts without national searches while hanging out at the water cooler. We don’t discount prices when our arenas and stadiums are half full. Why? Because we are IU and we are avant-garde.”

Fire Fred and Awful Archie now!

Disagree on Morgan. He took a tremendous jump last year under Miller and this year he has been pretty darn good. To say he hasn’t developed is just flat wrong. I would also like to give the staff a couple years with the players they recruited before we judge their ability to develop them.

Time will tell, and Miller will get next year for sure and one more after that if we are better next year. 4 years is plenty of time to turn this around.

Spare me all this non sense. What specifics do you have? What schools have fired their coaches after 2 years? Yeah UK fire Gillespe after 2 seasons because he was abusive and an alcoholic. Stallings was fired from Pitt because he won 1 big east game in 2 years and got smoked in the rest of their games. I can imagine it would take close to 20 mil to buy Archie out and then what? Who do we hire? Stevens or Donovan are the only sure things I see.

Yes I know. Luke Brown is one of them but no offer yet. We need some NOW and the only shooters we have coming in is Franklin and how much will he play? We need RP and Durham to inprove and be more consistent from the 3.

Yea, last year, without doubt.

They spend a lot of time on physical development, maybe a more balanced approach between skills and conditioning.

Smith and Morgan both needed more perimeter skills, Durham needed better mechanics on his shot and Green, well Green needs a brain transplant not sure any coaching would help.

Plus, development is as much on the player as the staff and one year is just a bad sample.

The Celtics gave Brad an extension in 2016, can't recall for how many more yrs (original contract in 2013 was for 6 yrs). Danny Ainge is an uber- competitive summbitch. Stevens isn't leaving Boston until Ainge falls out of love with Brad, and that's not happening any time soon. They are in the middle of the playoff pic again this year even with an up/down season, injuries and Kyrie drama.

Brad Stevens isn't coming to coach at IU. It pains me to write that, but that shipped sailed several yrs ago. We have to let that dream go.

Not Archie’s fault Crean whiffed on Guy.

You asked for it, I’ll give you a laundry list of coaches (some non-basketball) here that were fired for unacceptable performance in a very short time (do you really want to go down this road?):

1. Matt Daugherty - 3 years.
2. Darrell Hazell - 3.5 years
3. Jim McElwain - 2.5 years
4. Charlie Weiss - 2.2 years
5. Tyson Summers 1.5 years
6. Kevin Stallings 2.0 years
7. Tubby Smith 2.0 years
8. Bicari Alexander 2.0 years
9. Stan Van Gundy 1.0 years
10 Charlie Parker 2.0 years
11. Ron Jirsa 2.0 years
12. Bobby Hussey 2.0 years
13. James Johnson 2.0 years

You want more?

Yes. No bleep. Im just saying those 2 are the only sure fire coaches. Not saying who would come here

I dont care about football or NBA. Tubby got fired after 2 seasons? So pay 20 mil to make Archie go away and then what? Maybe its 10 to 15 mil, maybe someone could fill me in

13 and you included football coaches? you're not even good at google.

PS Charlie Parker was never fired from jazz. lol

He looks/is damn good. If we had a competent A.D. and administration we would go and hire him, in about 6 weeks. Unfortunately, we have Fred Glass and are in the process of a "major rebuild".

nah, you would have fired him after year one. went 6-12 in conference his first year with a team that went to the NCAAs the previous year...

While non basketball schools like Texas Tech and Virginia Tech kill it. I guess really what we are now is a non basketball school who just has alot of basketball fans. But clearly we are not a basketball school anymore.

This Texas Tech coach sure looks like he knows what he is doing. Wow!! Absolutely blowing out KU.
Chris Beard was an RMK assistant for 7 years at TT and a Pat Knight assistant for 3 at TT. Texas Tech has the best defense - in terms of opponents' points per possession - of any D1 school. IU probably can't touch him. UNLV hired him after he took 30-5 Arkansas Little Rock to the NCAA 2nd Round. He was at UNLV about 3 weeks when TT called and he took the job. TT went to the Elite 8 last year. TT is very good for a reason and its not because they recruit hamburger All-Americans.

I would have fired him after his first lost. All joking aside. If we're not a top 25 team next year and Beard is still at Texas Tech, we better hire him.

He likely doesn't think IU is a better job than the one he's got. He makes $3.175 million salary plus shoes and radio show, plus, plus. Though born in Georgia, he went to high school Woodlands, Texas, has daughters who live not far away and is a UT grad. He dropped UNLV on their head to take this job. Given the environment at IU these days, he'd be nuts to consider it. If its any consolation, though, United Supermarkets Arena dedication game was IU v. Texas Tech when RMK was here and its located on Indiana Avenue in Lubbock.

How long has he had to build a culture?
This is his 3rd year there. Elite 8 last year and lost most of his horses. Leading scorer is a sophomore (EDIT - typed freshman in error) from in town and he has 2 grad transfers, a shooter from Italy and some guys no one recruited. Lubbock is located further from a major city than any other school in a power 5 conference - being 400 miles from Dallas. Recruits do not fall off of turnip trucks outside the basketball office there.

I am going to assume he isn't idiot and he knows Indiana is a better job. It's comical that you would actually even type that.

There were 4 Bohannon brothers at Linn Mar High School outside Cedar Rapids. Jason Bohannon was playing when my wife taught at the school. IU was coming to Iowa City and I contacted the IU BB office if they were interested in seeing him. We picked-up Kerry Rupp and took him to see Jason play. Jason had some momments but not his best shooting night. I sent Kerry a tape of Jason's previous game of 47 against a top CR team. It took about two months after I sent the tape & Davis offered Jason a scholarship. But Jason had already decided to attend Wisconsin. His other brothers - Zach - Air Fource/Wis and other brother led some good teams at Northern Iowa. Their dad was Gordy Bohannon - Rose Bowl QB for Iowa. Jason not wanting to play for Alford did not sit well with the Iowa establishment.

Then you'd have to know his view of the matter, since yours does not matter. The question is - does he think IU is a better job than the one he's got. He surely isn't an idiot, but this isn't the IU of some years ago. Have a look. You can see the difference. Well, maybe you can't.

It would be very difficult to overcome this if IU tried to hire Beard.

“Simply stated, it is great to be home,” Beard said during a news conference this morning welcoming him to the Big 12 school, where he coached for 10 years under Bob Knight and Pat Knight. “Lubbock, Texas, the state of Texas and Texas Tech University is where I have always wanted to be. It is my dream job and always has been.”

Beard was born in the Houston area and has spent 20 of his 25 years as a coach in Texas. The state is home to several of his family members, including his daughters.“I wanted to thank my three daughters, Avery, Ella and Margo,” Beard said. “Ella and Margo were born in Lubbock, and all three were raised here. I’m just so proud to be able to come home and be closer to you guys.”

He'd be a good one, I believe he also lost a 1st round draft pick last year and still has it rolling,
