Palisades fire

Damn, you still pissed about the grand kid? Why you being short with me? I'm in your corner.
I’m getting old - but nowhere near old enough for a grand kid. Just don’t be a caricature if you want to be in my corner.

Aunt Jemima doesn’t matter. Passing over qualified and talented people in the name of DEI is what matters.

Liberals will never allow it to be arson. HAS TO BE CLIMATE CHANGE.

It probably is arson. But that doesn't mean climate change can't make conditions worse. Does it?

I have no idea what impact climate change has had on THIS fire. It is like hurricanes. More moisture in hurricanes would be expected with climate change, but there is no way of saying specifically that Helene was due to climate change. This means I can't say conclusively that either event is due to CC, but likewise one cannot state categorically that they are not due to CC.

Not basing the fire chief on identity politics. Homeless issues. Crime. Those are things that are easier to control and a product of vapid liberal calif policies. I watched Jon cryer on bill Maher. That celebrity Coastal mentality is just lost when it comes to politics and common sense.

Of course you’re probably right but you’re one of the few reasonable people left on either side - especially the Left when it comes to reality and cause / effect.

Mark my words, the national news media machine will go out of their way to lay all guilt for this at the hands of Climate Change and none at the mental health and vagrant situation their “compassionate policies” have created.

There are agendas out there, can't deny it.

We probably need a thread on vagrancy but I don't see in the article you posted that the person arrested is a vagrant. I am not sure what a solution is for vagrancy. I've long felt we need to get back to more forced commitment for mental health, at least a slight broadening of what constitutes a danger. But I am not sure about just locking up vagrants. It seems a very expensive solution in its own right. No one wants to pay for more and more jails/guards. I think they figure it is $20,000/year to keep someone in jail. That can add up quickly. Add in we are already letting more serious criminals out because of space issues and it becomes tough. But live anywhere and do what you want has costs too. What leads people to giving up?

There are embers flying at 70mph in a populated area all in severe drought conditions. All it would take is a couple embers going under a shingle and the high winds fueling the embers. I have not heard a single thing about climate change, dei, homelessness.
I honestly come on this board b/c it shows a different perspective from my little bubble, but sometimes i feel i live in a different world than some of you guys.

Weather plays a huge role, especially wind. Some will call any significant weather event the “result” of climate change.

Most wildfires are human caused. As a policy issue, communities must become more aware of the various threats natural conditions present and deal with them.

What? If you haven’t heard anybody blaming arson or DEI or climate change then you live in North Sentinel Island.

Spot on. This thread shows everything that is wrong with society. This is no better than the average Twitter post. Making mockery of a complicated issue by focusing on rainbow hydrants, parades, the gender of firefighters, etc.

This is no different than those blaming Desantis for hurricane damage in Florida. Bottom line is we are going to have to reevaluate where we build and live, or accept the fact to live in paradise you might need the money to self insure.

Even the hydrant challenge has been bastardized.

Depends on whether those factors hampered a response, exacerbated matters, etc. they’re legit public administration questions. The Fd leadership certainly looks like dei motivated same. How was the budget. Where were allocations prioritized. Why? On and on.

This looks like squad governance

Similar to when the next Cat 5 hits a populated area, I'm not sure there will ever be a perfect playbook for 80-100 winds in a tinder box full of mansions built in hills with narrow roads. Nor am I sure you can design a water system that will maintain pressure for 100s is hydrants simultaneously. Perhaps at a certain cost you could?

We are going to have to take a hard look where we live. This rebuild is going to be interesting to watch unfold.

Agreed. But while interconnected I think you can parse the issues. It’s a vulnerable area but is governance really the best it can be when identity is the primary qualification?
