For sure... and part of me just thinks its good to see and hear these things, because of what we've been forced to watch and follow for 4 years. Being in the right spot defensively shouldn't be some sort of revelation.“They also mentioned that during their walk through, they were going through defending Murray State's concepts, and no one had a ball. I LOVE hearing things like that. Obviously that forces defenders to think about where they're supposed to be, the concepts they're supposed to be defending, more than focusing on the ball.”
This alone puts him high on my list. Defense is choreography as much as anything else. I’m sick of seeing IU players constantly arguing about where to be defensively more than 20 games into the season. Thanks for posting this.
But when you watch his teams play...one of the things that jumps out is that they're not only nearly always in the right spot defensively, they're there, making plays, impacting the other teams ability to make plays. And the more I learn about his approach and philosophy, its becoming clear it isn't "normal" coaching, and it isn't an accident that its happening. He ensures it will happen.
It all ties back in to his "Impose Your Will" approach...that he evidently relates to every decision, drill, play, practice, meeting, etc... that goes on in his program...starting the day players step foot on his campus.
I didn't love watching Stirtz dribble for 25 seconds...so there are concerns with him, for me. And who the hell am I...obviously? But man, I just have a feeling about him. He's gonna end up continuing to be as great as he's already shown he is, and can be. And he'll do it at the P4 level sooner or later.
