Name 3.

1. Stevens - of course you make him say no.
2. Beard - No brainer. Call him tonight. Let’s go!
3. McCollum. - Winner.

Ps. Love our annual coaching wishlist threads during the actual season. Almost as fun as winning the off season!

Woodson was hired on March 28th, while the Transfer Portal is open from March 24th to April 22nd. Time is ticking, Dolson, we need a strong Transfer Portal haul, so making a hire ASAP is crucial.

Hard to make it that early due to good coaches are still coaching into late March

Indy Star reporting that Woodson is likely to finish the season. They report that financial details are being discussed and they mention that he somehow still has lots of donor and administration backers.
That said - seems like it could all be very fragile given Woodsons high opinion of himself. I would imagine that Dolson initiated this and is trying his best to give Woodson a respectful exit.

Anyone listed the last few years........ except Beard, Collins, Brownell or Pearl.

Also known as boring, boring, boring and weirdo ...

Winning is not boring. Strategy and concepts are not boring. Program development is not boring. Systems that win are not boring.

Losing over and over and not competing are boring, especially when you have to change the channel because you’re getting your ass whipped by coaches and systems that are conceived as boring.

That’s boring.

You said wish list that's mine ... you should have ask for a list of coaches you approve of.

Beard has had two teams worth watching on the offensive end. His current, and the one that all of a sudden found offense during the final four run besides that his teams look like geriatric porn..

Pearl, though I really like his defense, rotates players in and out in a fashion that makes Woodson and Creans lineups make sense ... he's f*cking weird.

The other two are trash .. and not worthy of conversation.

You make your list any way you want .. I'll do the same. I know exactly what criteria I want, and the above do not fit it.

Anything after #2 would be very risky. Don’t think it gets that far though.

Stevens isn’t happening. They went after him with a big bag of money last time and he told them no. He is out of coaching now and in management..

Beard would be good. Pearl comes with recruiting and player payment violations so IU would have to provide oversight to protect the University.

I'll second this post. I'm warming up to Chris Jans a bit.

I bet the next coach will be the highest paid or nearly highest paid coach.
Stevens
May
Pearl
Few.
Those are the names.
Beard not being mentioned at all. Not right now.

May, Pearl or Beard is only one we would have a shot with. Steven’s, and Few won’t come

Not going to happen until end of season, unless they pull Jay Wright out of retirement…but that’s not going to happen either. The older coaches that retired the last couple years are not fans of the NIL

I’m thinking it will be down to McCollum, Beard, or Otz. Don’t think Dusty is proven enough yet and probably won’t jump ship at Michigan so quickly.

These guys sit towards the top too

This is a good post, and I agree with your assessment. I think the one thing all of us need to remember is that Woody also wore the candy stripes. Not only did he wear them, he was one of the best to ever wear them. So, I think that Dolson will do his best to bear that in mind while dealing with Woody’s departure.

Pace and style don’t matter as long as you win . When IU hired Bobby many people complained that his style would not work in the Big 10 . 25 years later and 3 National Championships later , he is considered as a legend . Dolson did a great job hiring a football coach , so I hope he does as well in hiring our next basketball coach . Also like in coach Cigs case , it might be someone none of us have thought about , or mentioned on here .

Three off those named and not inconceivable:

Jay Wright
Dusty May
Chris Jans

Buzz Williams needs to be considered in the mix of those listed above. Three others not listed who should be looked at are:

Darian Devries
Porter Moser
Dennis Gates

Gates is someone who looked really good two seasons ago albeit with an older team, then sucked last year, and now is ranked again going 6-3 in the SEC with wins against Florida, Ole Miss, and Miss St.

I'd be incredibly disappointed if we hire Beard

It does though. The kind of players that win championships won’t play in systems like that. You might win a bunch of games but it does take lottery talent to win in March/april.

I’ll cheat and list a “dream group” and a “realistic group”

Dream Group: Stevens, Donovan, Few (if he’s truly interested this time, unlike when he said “no” to Greenspan)

Realistic Group: McCollum, Henderson, Schertz

It's likely that some of the names on the short list aren't going to be available before the portal opens:
  • Selection Sunday: Sunday, March 16
  • First Four: March 18-19
  • First round: March 20-21
  • Second round: March 22-23
  • Sweet 16: March 27-28
  • Elite Eight: March 29-30
