@BradStevens

Hat tip on FIRE. If you haven't, take a chance on the JK Rowling pod. Not just Harry Potter/witches/trans discussion (though there is plenty of that) but also some good history of the internet type stuff.

Pod title "The Witch Trials of J.K. Rowling"

Couldn't find it on their site but it's on apple, etc.

Lucky Hank is improving each week. In E5, Hank asked the black professor, played by Cedric Yarbrough, to help him carry a grandfather clock into his house. Professor Rourke replied, "Do you want me to bust up a chiffarobe?" I laughed out loud.

Change of pace, on rewatches.

I thought I mentioned this before, but I guess not. I finally rewatched The Wire earlier this year, and this time I made it all the way through to the end. I have recalibrated my Top Five of All Time list, and The Wire is in it. I'm not sure which drops out, yet. I'm sure The Americans stays. But after that, anything goes.

Anyway, I did a true rewatch, from the beginning, and was reminded that The Wire has perhaps the greatest opening scene of any show in history.

Yeah, that is a really well written scene. Captures a lot of what was great about the series.

On rewatch, which was your favorite season?

I was hooked from the very first scene.

Tough one. Probably season 3? I think? But I liked all of them. I actually liked season 1 more than the critics and season 5 less than the critics, but there wasn't a bad season. I don't know why season 5 turned me off the first time around. Probably because it was such a shift in narrative dynamic.

I thought the 4th the most powerful. I loved elements from all the seasons, though.

Finally watched last night's episode. This is a show that knows how to end. It's just getting better and better. The funeral was just epic television. Kieran Culkin should submit this episode as his choice for Emmy consideration. From his masterful planning of his role at the funeral to his emotional breakdown to his trying to hold things together until they all unravel at the end, he explored pretty much every location possible on the chart of emotional depths.

I absolutely cannot wait for the finale. If it lands, this show will immediately vault into the best ever list.

Last night was an amazing episode . I’m watching live which I rarely do to keep from spoilers. From Roman the Showman to his rapid downfall, was his finest moment. Is he in there? Can we get him out? Hard to feel sorry for any of them, they are such terrible people, but that was sad. Cromwell had quite the eulogy also. I think Matisse ( Sp) is going to screw Shiv over and name another American CEO.

4th is my favorite. Those kids were just phenomenal and it was a pretty realistic example of what some inner city teachers deal with. I thought second season did a good job of explaining what has happened to so many jobs in the country, where families were able to count on earning a good living by working hard in manual labor. Until they couldn’t.

We went up to Wabash today to watch Frank Ferrante, a Groucho impersonator. He does a great job, it is easy to think one is watching Groucho. He has an acerbic wit dealing with the audience. The parts of the show where he just retells movie jokes is good for nostalgia but not as funny. Groucho is the top of my funniest comedian list.

VPR should be as compelling “must see” tv tonight as anything that has ever aired. Get ready gang!

Just finished episode 6. So far I think this season isn’t living up to the first two, but I’ve heard it finishes strong. Final of Succession and Barry Sunday.

Anyone read The Lincoln Highway? Amor Towles, some author s Gentleman from Moscow. I’m about a third finished , and enjoying.

Gentleman from Moscow might be my second most overrated book of the 21st Century. It is so SLOW. And not in a good way. I've never been able to finish it. Should I?

I actually am the only one in my book club who didn’t love it. I like this one better. I’d say no to finishing.

AFI top 10 comedies. I agree with several of them being on the list, but The Graduate and Tootsie are questionable to me. Not bad movies, not great comedies. Certainly needed Holy Grail added in, and Blazing Saddles is top 3 even accounting for others not fully appreciating great comedy.
