Movies, books, tv

Why is it better than YoutubeTV?
Have liked YouTubeTV. Have it in Georgia and was considering switching to it here (No cost; just add another location and TVs to the account) but YouTube and The MLB Network are fighting and thus no baseball yet this year.

. . . and no Bally Sports . . . which cuts out local Braves coverage . . . .

I will add with history comes amc, A&e and others

No women authors? About all I see these days at B&N are women authors . . . .
I read a lot of women authors. i did add Barbara Kingsolver to the list later. She is my favorite. Mariynne Robinson probably also on the list. Lots of new up and coming AA authors, but need to see more to add them to greats. The great Toni Morrisson, of course. I am not a chick lit person, movies or books, but I know a lot of my reading material still wouldn’t interest the guys here. Jodi Picoult is stereotyped as kind of chick lit, but she does tons of research for her books and I always learn from her. She takes on current event topics often. Sue Grafton was probably my favorite mystery author. She did the alphabet books and passed away as she was working on Z.

Donna Tartt, forgot her. Easily done as she only writes about a book a decade. Secret History and Goldfinch are favorites ( the movie was bad).

Goldfinch is one of the worst books I've ever read. The only book that made me angry that I had wasted so much time with it.

Well it won the Pulitzer so I’m not the only one that disagrees with you. I know some other people who didn’t like it either, but I love her writing style.

Worst Pulitzer award in history. Worst major writing award ever. In any language.

So, you didn’t like it?
Oh, and why the angry face emoji on my pizza post?
Usually I stop reading crappy books. But I thought Goldfinch would pay off with something and it didn’t. So I was mad at myself for not quitting before reading 500 pages.

Re the pizza, it was a joking anger as in you were trying to compare pizza outside Elkhart to Elkhart, my tribal home.

I would rather put pineapple on a pizza than eat one in ElkHunt.

I don't think of these writers as the same type as McCarthy, McMurtry, etc. For lack of a better term, the writers McMurt is talking about are masculine writers. We could have a whole thread about what makes something masculine vs. feminine vs. whatever in writing.
Writing like a woman isn’t so hard . . .

Agreegence. We're just two episodes in, and it's fun, but it's not going to be remembered as anything great.
Just finished Diplomat. I thought it was just awful. Seemed like every aspect, from concept, to writing, to directing, to character development, to cinematography was like a high school project. I had such high hopes after The Americans.

Succession last night was too true to life. Anyone watching it in real time?

It definitely was. I was tense the whole time watching it.
I am enjoying this season. I still have Sunday’s episode to watch. Barry hadn’t been as good but still fun. Kind of weird to see that older guy on Barry on succession. I just saw Hulu has a documentary on Randall Emmett coming out. I’m looking forward to that. He was lost in all the scandoval stuff and I wondered what the scoop was with him.

If you're an HST or FLLV fan, this is fun.

Highlights:

They tried making the movie for 15 years. Scorcese almost did it and would have had Nicholson as Duke and BRANDO and Dr. Gonzo (hahahahah). John Malkovich was also considered but, thankfully, was too old by then.

Fun stuff.

I would like to note that The A-Team is a fantastic action movie. I only wish they would have made it as a one off 10 episode show rather than a movie. They could have had an underlying story but every week they'd be off saving somebody (like the show).

Same cast. Production value, etc. I know I know. Never would happen but a man can dream.

Also, more Jessica Biel. Kthxbye.

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet, but dayuuuum...Star Trek Discovery is woke af.
You've been warned.
(PS - the lead character is hot as balls.)

Anybody watch Echoes on Netflix? The ending of the first episode has a helluva twist . . . .

Speaking of twists . . . anybody read Twenty Years Later by Charlie Donlea? It's got two plot twists at the end. Quick read.
