Has anyone read Michenor’s The Source? I read most of his, but not that one. It’s over a thousand pages of that teeny tiny print everything used to be.
I have read a number of his. I was interested to read you liked Uris. Michenor and Uris and so many others I read 25 years ago and wonder if I’d still like them today. Centennial was my favorite. But I like that old west stuff

Yep, I’ve read several of his books (but not recently), and it was one that I really enjoyed.

similar formula to many of his books. Narration starts in modern times (this case the 60s?), and then they go back in time to uncover the history of a region. Usually the people that are doing this uncovering are descendants of families that have long ties to the region. In this case it’s about a tell, and the layers that are uncovered revealing the rich history of the region.

I highly recommend it. It may be my favorite one of his books.

Centennial was my favorite
Read Centennial as part of an honors US history class I was in as a freshman in high school. We had to read it over the summer and be ready to discuss Day 1.

God I loved that class. Incredible teacher. Had him for three years in HS as he taught honors US history, Geography and Government/Civ.

I was relieved my daughter had to do something similar this summary for one of her sophomore AP classes. I guess education isn't as dead as we thought.

Freshman honors huh. Accolades started early. That the message you wanted to get across?

Hahaha. My list of educational accomplishments only diminished as the years rolled by.

Also, I majored in history/poly sci in college. In major GPA, solid 3.4 (miracle). Outside major GPA (electives), oof. We'll leave that to the dustbin of history.

How’d your daughter’s season turn out?

Dude, I would skip class to keep reading whatever book (totally unrelated to a class) i was reading. I have no idea what that says about me other than my lack of focus in college was legendary.

I once had a 400 level history class to which I showed up (nearly) every day til the midterm. Aced the midterm. Well, there was only one other grade in that class, the final.

So, the next time I showed up to the class was the final. Got a C. B overall. The professor cheekily called me a dick.

PS. Any class where the professor wrote the main text and who also includes all reading in the syllabus really doesn't require me to go to class. Just saying. God I was a terrible student.

This next year is the important one.
Yep. They had her playing some different positions b/c it's kinda stacked at her "normal" position. I think she'll be playing outside back or wing going forward. If she continues onto varsity anyway.

Funny story - she'd never (since rec anyway) played a back line position like back or CB. So they throw her in at right back early on during training camp. They continued to do that throughout the year. She says to me "it's amazing how much more of the field I can see when I have the ball" (she normally is a striker/CF) and then says "I can see now why they don't play the ball to me sometimes".

Christ.

This is why we can't have nice things. You should probably go ahead and lock this thread down. It's only been going on since 2018, and has almost 2,600 posts.
It's one of two non political threads. Well, three if you count Only Good Stuff

I mean, we had one dbag recently post a political movie trying to stir up the shit, but soccer is a bridge too far for most people on this board.
Lock. It. Up.
Speaking of a bridge too far. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to just lock up the board. The other day Marv was loitering on the soccer thread. If that’s not a sign I don’t know what is

That may be too harsh, but I’ll keep an eye out for a post on a documentary about a disc golf match on that gated neighborhood block in St. Louis, between Pelosi’s prostitute and Kyle R. The winner gets a date with AOC, while the loser has to buy Kavanaugh’s drinks for a month. You know it’s out there.

I liked that video of her dancing on the stage. I might want a date with her now. I feel like in time I could talk her out of all the woke shit. get her watching the kardashians and just kind of forget about it all

You peaked early. It’s fine. It’s happens.

The WC is a gateway drug into soccer. Don't spoil it.

In two years you'd be vacationing at a B&B in Vermont with Hickory and zeke.
I’d hang with zeke any time. As for hickory I’d have to remember why woodpeckers never get concussions. They hit that tree at the exact same angle every single time … I’d do that with a wall

Centennial is one of the greatest English novels ever written, IMO. In my pantheon, it's only second to LOTR in terms of number of times I've reread it from front to back.

First time I read it was in middle school (!), because, like LOTR, it was assigned to me by my dad.
