I thought House of Dragons ended pretty strong. Did anyone else stick with it? Can’t believe we have to wait two years for a sequel. Bad timing, sorry to interrupt the love fest,
Erika, there’s some really nice guys here I’m pretty sure you’d like to know better!
I hope it slows up a bit now. We basically had a whole season of set up to get to the real story.

The 4 actresses who played Rhaenyra and Alicent did a really good job.

Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities on Netflix is a good Halloween treat. It definitely has both a Stephen King and Alfred Hitchcock vibe to it. I really liked the 2nd episode about the grave robber and his rat problems.

Kid friendly?

Whole first season is foundational. Not great we have to wait almost two years for the story to really start flying.

So wait, are we talking about Dragons or Rings here?

I plan on binging Dragons, I think I saw the first 3 and decided to wait and binge the rest. So I'll do that whenever I get a free day. But it annoys me that they like to do things just for the shock value (main character and uncle in 4- yes I read spoilers*). I don't mind shock so long as it has intrinsic value beyond the shock. I am not a fan of shock for shock's sake.

* I am not one that worries much about spoilers. If something is good, it is good whether or not I know the twist. An example, I still love The Sting. Best example, I had read Alien before seeing it. I was so excited when the chest-bursting scene approached, "ha ha, all these people are going to jump". I still jumped. Brilliant.

Malcolm Crowe is dead.

I think I'm going to wait for at least a couple of seasons to rack up. I can't remember what happens from one week to the next much less years in between.

What, and miss out on all the incest and gratuitous child births?

also, they spent a shit ton on the dragon CGI

And foot fetishists.

That is how I became watching Rings and Dragons at the same time. I decided since Rings was only 8 episodes to watch it weekly then binge Dragons later.

My boss had a point, TV series follow a standard 3 act play. So they view the first third as an act, and it tends to lack action. But if 10 episodes and each episode runs over an hour, that's over three hours of boredom. Rings certainly had that problem, though the first act lasted, well, 8 episodes. Rings problem is they valued the secret of who was Sauron more than they did the story.

This was my favorite dragon fight scene...

I just finished rereading Exodus. I’ve been wanting to do that since my trip this summer. Leon Uris was always one of my favorite authors and I felt like he did a lot of research for his historical fiction. Part of Exodus that bothered me this time though and I didn’t notice before was the nonstop criticism of Arabs, nearly always accompanied by dirty, slovenly, etc. Does anyone have any suggestions of historical fiction or history book about the forming of Israel that might not be so biased? Did anyone else read Uris? Also loved Mila 18, QB VII, and Trinity.

Israel ( a concise history of a nation reborn) by Daniel Gordis. This is a very good book. The book is factual with many documents but the author lets you know that some things that happened were/are in very gray areas. But look the fact is a great number of those immigrants bought the land, converted it from sand into farmland and slowly developed a country. One of the most amazing feats of the 20th century. Based on your leanings I'm sure you can find a book that states the opposite if that is what you are seeking.

Thanks, my leanings are definitely with Israel, but I do want to learn about both sides. Even EXODUS did a good job of explaining what an achievement it was to basically turn the desert land into fertile farmland. And how originally the Jewish people helped show Arabs how to do it.

Also Jerusalem 1913. Author is Amy Dockser Marcus. This books focus is on the early years but the author is more critical of both sides. Also good and informative.

I told you! Uris was a great novelist, but he always put his personal sympathies front and center in his stories. I still think Trinity was his best work.

You absolutely did. I still enjoyed reading it but definitely noticed that so much more this time.

Has anyone else watched any of Reboot on Hulu?
The first episode was so-so, but since then, it has gotten funnier.
Reboot is good...one of the better comedies i have seen in a while. Not laugh out loud funny, but a sweet and mild funny.
Any one see the ending to the Patient? Pretty intense, even though you were expecting it.

Has anyone read Michenor’s The Source? I read most of his, but not that one. It’s over a thousand pages of that teeny tiny print everything used to be.

Kindle for the eyes these days. I was resistant but got over it. Only thing I hate about the Kindle is the cheap plastic. It's slick, has no grip.

I know that helps with cost but still.

PS. I put grip tape on the back and it works fine.

My kindle isn’t swiping great and it’s annoying. I’ll have to figure out what is wrong before tackling a book that long.

I love the physical feel and smell of books but would read everything on the Kindle if the books weren't so expensive. I can buy used for less than half the cost of a Kindle book.

I just watched The Purge this weekend (yes, I'm only 10 years late). I'm not a horror fan but this was pretty good. Taut, nice sci-fi like premise, and I thought it worked as an interesting allegory for race, class differences and violence in the U.S.

Can't see a whole series of movies based on it, though, since one of the premises--that a lot of people are psychotic killers held back by laws alone--is so far-fetched.

I’m a book sniffer, especially old ones.
