Movies, books, tv

I watched about the first 45 minutes or so, and I am torn. I think the part of me that doesn't like it kept thinking this is a reboot of Idiocracy - one of the worst movies ever made. Right now, I lean towards bad, but maybe the second half is better.
I like absurdity so I could stomach it. The Mark Rylance character merging Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and his own character from Ready Player One was pretty good.

Awful. Man that 14 Peaks on Netflix was something. We couldn't believe the line of people on Mount Everest. Insane! I didn't know it was like that.
I read a book called High Crimes, a book about the sleazy side of Everest expeditions. The book was written in 2008 and Everest has gotten worse. Depressing.

I also read a book called Americans on Everest. It’s about the very first American climbers to reach the summit. Excellent read.

I'll check it out. Watch 14 peaks. The main guy was a character. One of these freaks too like Armstrong/Phelps etc. His ability to carry on in low oxygen was super human. He has a great way about him too. Doesn't say I had a Sherpa guide. He goes by their name. The one mountain he climbed hungover. Was nutty

It’s on the list. I just started the latest Bordertown season, Hana is next but I’ll squeeze it in. I need to get a streaming device hooked up to the TV in front of my spinner. I just finished watching Ken Burns’ WWII again while spinning, that’s excellent if you haven’t seen it.

Ultra barely related trivia...: I climbed three routes in Rocky Mountain National Park with Tom Hornbiens son... (TH was one of the guys who was part of that American team [and led the toughest of the two routes taken (with no sherpas)...

Wow!!! What time of year?

Wow!!! What time of year?r the

Summer time...

Gripping (for me anyway coming from the cornfields, with the sandstone grit of Kickapoo Falls being the only decent training area within an hour and a half)... No real Epics though..., just milestones reached in terms of degrees of difficulty...

His father, Tom Hornbein and much of the rest of the team spent a great deal of time training on Longs Peak for the West Ridge Route... That story has its own book, aptly named "The West Ridge" ...

Worth a look, it's a page turner... Horbien is either "the" or..., one of..., the principal authors.

I definitely Want to see 14 Peaks. I’ve always been interested in mountain scaling stories and saw David Carter speak about Mt Everest. I recently saw a documentary on a group of middle aged women who attempted Kilimanjaro and it has me intrigued. The altitude sickness concerns me, as I have migraines. I’d better get busy if I’m going to attempt it.
One more note about Don’t Look Up: there’s a Bobby Knight reference that is pretty funny.

Anyone ever watch this series? Any good?

A few episodes. It was kind of funny but got old

Has anyone here watched Peaky Blinders and do you recommend?
Just started watching it last week and I absolutely love Peaky Blinders. It is so reminiscent of Boardwalk Empire, but dare I say better? I’m now 4 episodes into season 2. Need to slow down else I’ll be done by next week. 😉

Thought it was incredibly stupid.

The finale of the new dexter was cheesy greatness
Yellowstone finale tied up some loose ends. Makes me think next season is up in the air. I hear it’s #1 show on Tv, the actors are probably holding out for huge bucks.

Watched Silverado again last night. Had to believe the change in Kevin Costner.

Agreed!! It'll be interesting to see where it goes. Have you watched the spinoff?

Also in keeping with Noodle's have you seen Peaky Blinders! Sooooooo great. And they have a new final season coming out this year

Started the spinoff. Haven’t popped yet for the $ for the rest.

lots if good stuff out there. Started Around The World in 80 days, looks like a good adaptation. David Tennent stars, always enjoy him.

Good news on Peaky. Loved it. Didn’t you post the actress who played the aunt died?

Ray Donovan finale in a couple days.

You tube has Separate but Equal as a freebie. Sidney Poitier stars as Thurgood Marshall. Interesting how the full frontal attack in Plessy came about.

Yes she died and they delayed season 6 then decided to do it.

I need to see Ray Donovan.

Just watched Promising Young Woman. Good movie. Carrie Mulligan is a really good actress and that might be the best role she's ever had.

Little late on the trigger but...

If you're serious about climbing Kilimanjaro you'll need to do some serious research on altitude sickness first...

I can give you a thumbnail overview:

It has much more to do with blood chemistry than fitness. No matter how fit you are if you haven't acclimated properly you're going to get some version of it... The effects can range from headaches and nausea to full blown Cerebral Edema or Pulmonary Edema..., and ultimately death...

My recommendation would be to spend 2 weeks in Colorado acclimating before flying over (gain a 1,000 feet each day while sleeping somewhere below 7,000 feet nightly [if possible]... )...

// I was going to give you an example schedule but realized that this would turn in to something close to a novella if I did... If you're serious about going..., post a "Best way to acclimate in Rocky Mountain National Park?" question over on Andys sometime and I'd be happy to give you the details...//

Unlike what appears to be many on the left, I don't want to see any of you die, I just hope you'll vote differently 😉

Lol thanks. Have a good friend in CO so I could do that. I’m not sure how serious I am yet.

The last two episodes of season 2 were brilliant. And the wedding episode was incredibly well-written.
Season 3 Episode 5 Alfie apologizes to Arthur is one of my favorite scenes of all time in any show. I won't spoil it more than that

Oh, and the last scene of season 2 was like the last scene of season 3 of Ozark - pretty sure I said WTF out loud in both instances. And the wedding! I was convinced it was the other woman until she lifted her veil. Brilliant!

At the rate I'm going, I should be watching that one at about midnight tonight. I think tomorrow morning I might just go to the barber and ask for a Peaky Blinders cut.
Screaming laughing!!! Like the goalie for Leeds. Honestly a Peaky cut would be great for me. I'm all gray only on my side hairs. If I let me hair grow long I look like Paulie from Sopranos.

Remember Alfie's apology. I get excited just thinking about it
