McCarthy Round 2

the salient comparison is to 2019 and the biden years. not a one year comparison. what's more you're seeing a move away from progressive defund police progressive das etc. so it's not because of the biden admin and progressives it's more a recoiling against the progressive early biden years and rhetoric that were a disaster for cities. more cops and prosecutors actually prosecuting are good for crime reduction. basically the opposite of whatever a progressive thinks, do. the biden presidency has been an abject failure to anyone with a hint of objectivity

Read my first sentence. I'm hardly defending the Biden presidency. I'm simply pointing out that danc, once again, is pulling stuff from his ass.

Also, 2020, the Con's last year in office, was a bad year for violent crime, particularly homicides.

Expanding on the analysis of mid-year 2023 trends, the study provides comparisons with offense levels recorded in 2019, before the coronavirus, the killing of Floyd, and the ensuing mass protests over police violence. Violent crimes remained higher during the first half of 2023 compared to the first half of 2019. While homicide has receded from its peak in 2021, levels remained 24% higher than in the first half of 2019.

The variable we cannot account for, COVID. We know a lot of society changed. Some amount of everything that happened post COVID is from COVID.

South Dakota never locked down. Are there any Democrats elected in South Dakota? Their crime rate went down in the last year, just as did the nation, after rising since COVID.

Something happened during/after COVID we don't know. I don't know how much of impact is that, how much is what you are suggesting.

While the nation saw a 6.1% drop in homicides between 2021 and 2022, South Dakota saw an increase, jumping from 3 homicides per 100,000 people to 4.3. Though an increase, it’s not quite the 4.5 the state saw in 2020.

If the blame is all on Democrats, how do we explain South Dakota?

It isn't just South Dakota, here is info about Idaho:

There were 79,347 offenses reported during the year, that is up about 3% from 2021 numbers. As a result, the state’s overall crime rate was down about 4.42%.
  • There was a 8.79% increase in violent crime offenses. There was a 14.71% increase from 2021 aggravated assault offenses, which accounts for 74.74% of the violent crime. Overall crimes against persons, or simple assaults, were up 6.83%. 488 law enforcement officers reported assaults on police, which is up 16.47% from 2021. There were no law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty

Something societal happened. I don't know what role Floyd had, or liberals, or full moons. But something is impacting heavy Republican states with no real major cities. There is a broad issue at play, either alone or too.

Covid, anxiety, mental health, lockdowns, boredom, progressives, liberals firing up blacks with the summer of love, police retirements and resignations, liberal soros DAs like here all played a role

I will also add that after the summer of love and year one Biden has not aligned with progressives and their war on cops. He’s been pro police

Was she? Or were pundits baselessly accusing her of such?

I don't know, to be clear. Harris starts talking and I sort of tune out. But Google suggests cop-hating progressives were not fans of her.
This stuff is just always in the forefront here. We had a radical soros backed prosecutor. A radical progressive mayor. A radical cori bush. Blacks just seem to continue to cut their noses off to spite their faces with these elections. And many are trying to get out themselves. Now the city is starting guaranteeing basic income. 500 a month.

I get it. I listened to 1A today and the two guests were some trans athlete explaining (mansplaining?) how female separation in sports is based on misogyny and the second guest was JPS basically having a conversation about how eternally cucked Will is.

Every time someone said something, I just thought, "You just cost us 500 votes."

She's a typical politician.

She started by running as a former hard-nosed prosecutor. When George Floyd happened, she tried to shift to a progressive on law enforcement because she thought it would help with getting elected.

Who knows if she has any firmly held beliefs of her own. Much like nearly every other person in Congress.

I guess that’s where you could probably give old Bernie credit. I don’t remember him straying too much

Back on track: Jordan doesn't have the votes.

I think it's time for the Dems to bail out the GOP. Pick a moderate GOP speaker, give the Dems a handful of committees and some legislative concessions, and get the entire Dem party to sign up for essentially a confidence and supply agreement: vote yes for the Speaker and for funding bills. Tell the small handful of right-wing chaos magicians to go f*ck themselves.

I thought Jordan would do better. Amazing to me he couldn't get Spartz. Heritage gives her a 98, that is not close to a moderate. I wonder if she is angling for a Ukraine aid vote.

that's what happens when the red wave didn't occur. narrow margin. now he has to hurry and do some horse trading

She's one of the most pro-Ukraine votes in Congress, obviously opposed to Jordan and others from that wing.

Possible that Jordan gets even less support if they go back for a 2nd vote on the floor.

I don't mind Jordan, but please don't wish another Nancy Pelosi on this country. She did more to destroy the US than Benedict Arnold.

Her antics of tearing up her State of the Union speech was childish and indicative of the unseriousness of the Democrats to govern.

Pelosi didn’t pass much legislation that appealed to me, but good gosh she had donkey in lockstep and got many bills through a similarly narrow majority. Now donkey in lock step again.
Results indicate the far right of elephant have positioned the house so the US public has only one view of our own ability to govern. It’s the cleanest example of the tail wagging the dog

I agree it is narrow, but I didn't think he'd lose by 20. I bet they have the whips out now, and I'm not talking about the party whips either. Full on Indiana Jones.

That would be what is best for the country, but that is a distant second priotity for them behind helping the Pubs look foolish.

I am not sure there are moderate Republicans who want to be elected by the Democrats. That seems to be a ticket to unemployment next year. But yes, I agree the Democrats are unlikely to help even if it were asked.

Whoa, $500 a month. If I get a PO box, and have the balls to walk there to get it, do I get the $$$? Or clam a nice quiet spot under an over pass? I could handle $6k a year.

How about instead of Dems cleaning up republican shit, tell the whole republican party to go f*** itself. This is their mess from electing complete f*****g loons. F*** ‘em.

They are doing that now while the country slips away. If they are what they claim to be, they need to be the adult in the room

Agree it's the tail wagging the dog. Very frustrating.

20 is a lot to overcome…I’d look to alternates. I don’t think Jordan can get there
