McCarthy Round 2

Dems should just steal five pubs in Biden country and get their person in

Never happening, not sure where these crazy ideas come from.

A deal with Dems would look like some rule changes that allow popular legislation to hit the floor, someone like Tom Cole is elected Speaker with either Dem votes or Dems voting present. Nobody in the GOP conference is ever going to cast a speaker vote for a Jefferies

No doubt. It’s a wonder to me how such horrible people - Gaetz, Tlaib, Omar, Cori Bush, et al - are elected.

I bet all the people you speak are in very safe districts (and we can include others). Add to that we've demonized elected officials for a very, very long time. Those people we hated in 1990 look pretty good now? Good people don't want to run, it's a thankless position. We get people with a Messiah Complex, or people looking for all the graft they can.

So, round 2 is going on, 70 votes in, and Jordan already doesn't have the votes.

Does he eventually just drop out because it seems like he's lost support from yesterday and if he does, where does the GOP go from here?

I’m tired of this. I’m tired of the old Republican Wing of the Democrat Party ignoring the wants/needs of half the country. Just go join Adam Kinzinger on CNN or run as a Democrat so you can side with them praising the Hamas-lovers in The Squad.

Put Kevin McCarthy back in for nomination, get the Gaetz crowd muzzled and on board and the RWDPs off their bourbon, stop this crazy Jeffries power play, and get this done. Then primary out the Gaetzers and the RWDPs next year.

I (foolishly) clicked over to see the CNN coverage.

Wow.

They have learned nothing. They are incapable of keeping blatant partisanship out of their coverage - even when all they have to do it show actual floor votes - where it should be easy to "stick to the facts."

Back to CSPAN. Won't be making the Cable News mistakes again.

Jake Tapper, laughing with the other cretins about Jim Jordan and Tom Cole saying that Jordan was/is a “man of integrity,” “Is that the Jim Jordan you know?”

Kinzinger: “No.”

Some really objective, non-biased reporting and commentary there, Adam. Fvck head.

Why, isn't that what people want, both sides? One person says Jordan is a saint, another says he's the devil, and away we go to decide for ourselves? I keep hearing it is important all sides are represented.

I swear there ain’t no Heaven and I pray there ain’t no Hell.

Both sides can be represented but I don’t want Joe Burrow purposely throwing interceptions to the Steelers’ cornerbacks. Go put on on those ugly black and gold uniforms, Joe, if that’s the case.

Kinziger sucks. F that guy. As for Joe burrow I really like him. Very strange guy. I like how he sits on the bench by himself. Stoic. Like he’s at the mall waiting for his gf to come out of a store

Joe just needs a clothing consultant. The whole “Joe Cool” thing doesn’t work.

Go to London and get fitted for a dozen $5,000 suits and all the accessories, including some Italian shoes. The weird get-ups are clownish.

You have to wonder how much of this is just base level stuff. All the Reps work together at the same “company”. They eat lunch together and chat by the coffee maker. Everyone knows who the biggest assholes are. Maybe there are a lot of folks who simply just don’t like Jordan.

Someone said Jordan basically torpedoed Scalise and lost all respect in the caucus, and that there was now zero chance he'd get enough votes. This was days ago it was reported.

So…probably a 1% cut across the board due to upcoming CR?
You don't think they'll get the budgets passed? They do still have time if they get to work. I wouldn't mind 1%, we have to make changes. I'm just not a "the sky is falling" type demanding everything be half off.

I still think we should nationalize Ticketmaster. One more year of both a Taylor Swift and a Beyonce tour and we'll have a balanced budget.Maybe even Social Security funded 20 more years.

Prior to this year, it had literally been a hundred years since multiple rounds of votes were necessary to elect a new speaker. It's now happened twice in 2023. Prior to this year, no speaker had ever been ousted by a vote of the full House in the middle of a congressional term. McCarthy now has that dubious distinction.

Republicans have the majority in the House. It's up to them to rally around a member and get the speakership slot filled asap so the House can conduct business again with all kinds of shit popping domestically and around the world, but they can't get it done. And McCarthy is blaming the Dems. What a joke.

The Dems are doing what they are supposed to do: vote for their nominee for speaker. That their nominee is a Democrat shouldn't surprise or bother anyone. But Republicans gonna Republican, and that means blaming Democrats.

You don't remember all those times Republicans voted for Nancy Pelosi?

Like when Republicans voted for Democrats when Tim Ryan challenged Pelosi?

It's not like they all did something like just voting for a Republican the previous Congress, right?

Sooo, the Constitution is working as written?

CRISIS is when one side doesn't get what they want.

I smell a compromise on the horizon.

I doubt those republicans who voted no to Jordan wanted more spending. Those who voted no, those thinking and morally-centered elephant maybe want a speaker who has drafted even one piece of legislation, or a speaker who doesn’t have 7 former OSU wrestlers testifying that he covered up sexual abuse. Hard working and morally centered would make a better speaker than old Gym

Sure can. Defund the FBI until they release the list. If the Dems want to die on the hill of defending child rapists let them. Defund Jack Smith in until he drops the bogus charges. Pelosi impeached Trump twice over nothing. Launched the sham Jan 6 committee, etc etc

You wrote, "Defund the FBI until they release the list."

So, your solution (to whatever you're really complaining about) is to have no FBI investigation of terrorism, bank robberies, assassinations, murders covered by federal law, kidnapping, securities fraud, banking fraud and on and on and on and on and on?

You should run for Speaker -- you sound just like Jim Jordan.

You would be wrong.

That Jim Jordan really has his finger on the pulse of the House of Representatives, doesn't he? 🙄

The House used to elect the Speaker by secret ballots of the members.

Wouldn't that be nice.
