McCarthy Round 2

How do we ever get out of this cycle?

Admittedly it is a longshot but I have signed up with Forward Party. The 2 parties are horribly damaged on the other side. Maybe a party that can collect moderates of the majority party and everyone of the minority can do something.

I'm gonna tell you what's very possibly coming from all of this. A deal cut with Dems to put a very moderate GOP Speaker in place, along with concessions on committee assignments and the like. I think the majority of the GOP conference has had it with the 6-15 jackwads on the far right flank and are ready to toss them off the boat.
That would be scalise. Why can't you get on with a far righty? I'm tired of the do nothing bought and paid for aloha peeps. They are not worth a sh!t. Get someone in there with some nads who won't back down.

good for you. i'll sign up too

It's the other way around. That's what we've already got.

The House has been so bitterly divided that Democrats and Republicans have been voting in-block on almost every issue for the past 25 years. This is especially true when it would give off the image of the president of the opposing party "getting a win".

Faith in our government representatives is pretty much the lowest it has been in multiple decades. A good chunk of that is the due to people perceiving them as the "do nothing congress". It's all just about blocking the other side's agenda.

One of the ways to reverse that trend is to actually put a guy up there who can actually compromise with the other side. We haven't had one of those in a while from either side.

That bitter divide is not going away and a speaker is not going to change that. Maybe Tulsi could be a difference maker IDK. I agree with everything you said though. Too Bad...

Yup. I (unfortunately) agree. Someone is eventually going to have to extend the olive branch to the other side.

I don't think today is going to be that day.

Frankly Biden should propose an Israel aid package. If the Senate acted, that would put huge pressure on the House not to be MIA.

I heard an explanation about Mace changing that helps explain the problem, her district changed and is now safe. So she changed. Safe districts are a scourge upon humanity. Look at the people who voted to remove, all safe.
It is currently "safe", but that may change very rapidly. It is her district that the SC NAACP has alledged was "racially gerrymandered", and that case was argued before SCOTUS on Oct 11. It isn't a VRA case, but rather a 14th Amendment case that deals with racial gerrymandering. The trial Court ruled the gerrymander unconstitutional, but because it was only a 3 judge panel SCOTUS was obligated to take the case once SC appealed...

Here is a link to Democracy dockets discussion of the case, including both their preview and their observaions immediately following Court arguments.

That analysis was not written by Marc Elias. so I'm not sure if he's revised his prediction of a win for SC NAACP based on the intransigence some of the more Conservative justices appear to have shown in the questioning.Imo, Roberts seems to be looking for a way to side with SC, but without actually hearing the entire line of questioning it's only a guess.

Here is Marc Elias's earlier take when he seemed pretty optimistic. Also reading thru the comments I see a number of people from Mace's current district that were unaware of the gerrymander and surprised that she won, as they voted for Cunningham. Sounds like people just a neighborhood or two away were cut out of the district and no one realized what was going on.

I don’t see Dems trusting any republican with any deal. McCarthy reportedly agreed to a deal with Dems that would fund the government for another couple years, then backed out of it. Dems have zero reasons to believe republicans will stick to any deal.

Democrats might get behind Liz Cheney. I can't think of anyone else they would trust.

She could share a cell with Gym and Comer. They'd obviously have to pay her for protection.
Presumably Gym Jordan, while most definitely covering up sexual abuse by Buckeye team doctor- is pretty tough little dude, he won NCAA championships at 134pounds for Wisky. I’ll be very surprised if he gains the speakership, he is a trained monkey for Trump, and no democrat can countenance that fact

Can anyone believe that some of the right is thinking of voting for Hakeem? Has any time in the history of this country, a house elect the opposite party as the speaker of the house? WITF are these Aloha Pub's doing?

Such things wouldn’t even have to be reluctantly countenanced if Gaetz and the merry band of camera whore, developmentally arrested, misfits you support would’ve just acted like grown ups.

This is so inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. Just put someone in there. Not much is going to get done or changed in the next year anyway with a divided congress and Democratic White House. Then see how 2024 shakes out and go in a different direction if needed/ wanted. There’s a consensus on Israel, I would think that has broad bi-partisan support and that’s going to be the dominant issue for the foreseeable future anyway. Not discretionary spending fights that make zero difference.

The world has real problem and immature GOP squabbles with no discernible purpose or objective serve nobody. Least of all the GOP. Biden is so weak right now, even your boy Trump is starting to poll ahead of him.

If the GOP would just not come off as totally dysfunctional they could win elections. But you seem to revel in this pointless posturing and dysfunction.

Gaetz and MTG, Bobart are like the allies coming to play in WW2. They are the only thing that will save our country.
The Alhoapublicans have done a pretty good job of being negotiated too with this "divided (hahahaha) government". We have a uniparty, not a divided government, don't let them fool you... oh wait. There are 8 people ish, in DC that can save this country. Otherwise, we have pissed it away just as Ben Franklin expected. It just took Nancy pelosi, Mitch and the other oligarchs to finish us off.
We had a good run. But I don't see us recovering. Pretty damn sad. The world counted on us and we fvcked it up. Badly.

Probs identifying someone who is able to actually draft legislation? At some point team elephant
No Democrat can stop it if the Pubs can pull it off.
technically accurate- but at last count he was over 50 votes short in his own caucus- and it isn’t like donkey will throw the Trump suck a life preserver. But at some point even thinking moderate Republicans will have to settle as they are giving donkey a lot of ammo for 2024 with “unable to govern” being the chief point

Nobody claimed they would do such a thing, so wtf are you babbling about?

Wrong, there were two interviewed yesterday that said they were considering it and "warming" to the idea. They were not names that I recognized so I don't recall who they were.

Did you just equate Ben Franklin and the Freedom Caucus boobs- ya know like the ones heroic Bobo was allowing some bar owner to grapple as she disturbed the crowd at Beetlejuice? I guess all those heroes that joined WW2 also needed to prepare by shutting down the government and vaping in a theater. I agree in your assessment of the country, but I completely disagree on who might save us- I think a quick study of the legislation MTG, Gaetz, and Boebert have drafted might lead you to a different conclusion

Mike Roger's was one. Idk about another.
I simply did an eye roll and knew that we are at the edge of the end of times. Taking the country back was, or at least stopping it from going over the cliff, was never going to be easy but here we are.
People will erect statues of us after the left accomplish their goal. The plaques will say, "they tried to warn us".

Jordan got fewer Republican votes than Scalise. No way he'd reach the necessary 217.

You mentioned Kennedy and that triggered an idea. Do you know who would be great but is unavailable? John-John. Guy is charismatic, good-looking and still young-enough at 62. But he's exceptionally busy working behind the scenes with Trump to save the world from the evil Dem cabal. He used to be a Dem himself but I guess he's flipped.
i will bet you he gets the 217 in the next couple days. Deal.

Waiting for the link where that's what he calls himself. If you can't provide it, just say so.

"Louisiana GOP Congressman Steve Scalise—infamously accused of once calling himself "David Duke without the baggage," referring to a former Ku Klux Klan grand wizard"

Your shotgun approach of doing a google search of biased sources is laughable.

No he didn't...We need a Pub Pelosi. And Jordan fits the bill not scalise. Jus sayin. Honestly, you know who would be great but we cant have him...John Kennedy, that dude is so full of logic its sick.
I don't mind Jordan, but please don't wish another Nancy Pelosi on this country. She did more to destroy the US than Benedict Arnold.

Her antics of tearing up her State of the Union speech was childish and indicative of the unseriousness of the Democrats to govern.

Republicans have done plenty of compromising. Passing CRs instead of an actual budget is playing right into Democrat hands.

Meanwhile, the Democrats bitch about Trump increasing spending while doing nothing to decrease spending.

McCarthy compromised plenty and look where it got him.

The problem with Gaetz, et al, is that they don't know when they've won. They voted against an agreement that would have cut the budget and provided more funding for border protection

You lived through Nancy Pelosi - you can live through Jim Jordan.
You guys are getting really good at just ignoring sexual abusers. I suppose all the wrestlers were lying about Gym Jordan, just like all the women were lying about Trump. Actually, on second thought, good representative for your party. Up to his ears in trying to overturn the government and ignoring sexual abuse . Huzzah!
