The problem is their base is so conditioned to the mask I dont think they will be able to give them up.
I agree that might be the most likely reason. It could also be some slower revealing impacts from lockdown efforts (although I'm not sure if the military locked down). I just wonder why they wouldn't have rushed these numbers into public view with full transparency.
The civilian population, who have recovered from covid, would want to know of later developing dangers that they should get screened for. A warning would give people a chance for early detection and possibly better outcomes. Why did it take 3 whistleblowers to get the news out? Why even call them whistleblowers, when they are just sharing much needed information?
Seems peculiar enough to keep a skeptical person from ruling out other possibilities, especially when censored doctors have voiced concern consistently over this possibility.
I can see why they are getting scared they are in big trouble and they need the independent vote to change and fast. I do not think it will really matter independents care about inflation and the economy. Really all this will do is upset the militant base of the dems who want masks for life.

-Virginia Senate passes Sen.
John Chapman "Chap" Petersen's (D-VA) amendment 29-9, with several Dems voting with all Republicans to permanently ban school masks and make in person instruction mandatory in Virginia.
-Bill now goes to GOP House of Delegates.
Looks like Illinois, New York City , and California will soon be standing alone with their mask mandates other Covid rules like vaccine passports. I suspect those three are in for the long haul. I would be stunned in masks are still not required in Illinois two months from now.

Caudill said discussions at the most recent Monroe County Board of Health meeting Thursday night reflected that the current situation "looks very different" from the fall of 2021, and the board won't use the same metrics in making its upcoming decisions on future health orders.
Caudill expected the county's health order will expire when Gov. Eric Holcomb's executive order ends March 4. The Monroe County Board of Health will meet again on March 3, where any future health orders will be discussed and potentially approved.
"They are meeting on the third so that they can do a last look at where we are, and they can look at if it looks like the governor is going to extend that order," Caudill said.
However, she indicated the health board would remain active in recommending proven public health measures such as vaccination and masking. Caudill expected the health board will draft recommendations for whenever the current regulations end.
