Turns out common sense is coming back. I fly again next week. Looking forward to forgetting my mask again and not worrying about it.

Don’t fly to Philly. They’ve reinstated their mask mandate. There’s a W.C. Fields joke in there somewhere . . .

Appears United is upholding their own mask mandate. And so it begins. Will be interesting to see how long they hold onto it and how their decision translates into bookings or lack thereof. Next flight in two weeks is to Cali and a lot of time in the air. The elimination of masks ia a welcome change. Particularly with the long flight!

I'd like to know their rationale. Seems to me there would be more downside than upside. The planes themselves are going to be far better ventilated than the airports they fly out of and fly into.

The science. Has to be the science, right? Perhaps they think there is a market there and they can capitalize on it. But then again, you always have the option to wear it. It’s just not mandated. But yes. Great question. Certainly cannot be for business reasons.

This brilliant elected official - who has no idea how our government functions - disagrees.

United has announced masks optional. I’m flying them in 8 hrs so I’m pleased.

It's representative of a broader problem. State rep is the easiest path to get a coveted verification check on both Twitter and Instagram. These are clearly people who are otherwise unworthy of that check. You can blame social media for the dumbing down of state legislatures....

Why announce that they're optional? Not required would be the proper term. They've always been optional, and will always continue to be.

Just a pet peeve of mine. I see "Masks Optional" signs all over town now. I want to ask when they'll be prohibited.

A convenience store near me used to have "mask prohibited" signs. I haven't stopped there since the end of the mask mandate to see if the signs are back.

Yeah, but sitting next to Bubba for three hours is the problem.

when you've got 3 or more people within a foot or 2 of you, and 8 people within 4-5 feet of you, maybe 15 people within 10 ft of you, and 100 plus sharing a small space, with a very low ceiling height, for hours at a time, thinking that ventilation system will clean everything out seems beyond naive to me.

anyone thinking they aren't breathing in what others are breathing out on a plane, i'd think are totally deluding themselves.

I'm flying to Monterey, CA tomorrow on American and masks are not going to be required. I'm still taking some because the ruling could be reversed, and I am landing in a California airport and won't be surprised if a mask is required there.

Be smart...once you board, put your bravado and politics aside for a couple of hours and wear a mask. When you deboard you can rip it off and be all badass again.

As much as I hate wearing a mask, it is situational for me...basic risk assessment. Not wearing it in the terminal and just maintaining some distance, but it goes on once I board.

I just had my agent reroute me away from LAX for this week’s flight.

Shit. I didn’t think about that. Are you in El Segundo?
I'm about twenty minutes from El Segundo, but then everything in LA is 20 minutes away...unless it's rush hour and it's an hour and twenty minutes away. 🤣

A couple of decent brewpubs in downtown Segundo though, so LMK if you're ever in town for a few days!
