Kanon Catchings

It’s the officially renamed, politically incorrect Jordan River. It runs adjacent to the world’s largest student union building, through Dunn Meadow. Likewise, Jordan Ave is now Eagleson Ave. It later dawned upon the more modern day holier-than-thous that IU’s first president, David Starr Jordan, was a racist pig so IU made sure he never squeals again.
Stupid as shit. For most of us the names did not change.

We'll see. I'm 70 years old and I'm not sure Purdue has ever had a team that legitimately could say they were ever the favorite to win it all. The 68-69 team is easily the best Purdue team I've ever seen but they weren't ever going to beat an Alcindor-led team, and in fact lost to that UCLA team twice that year.

I'm sure millennial @BoilerN will tell you Purdue was a lock to win it all the year Hummel tore his ACL in January or Clinton County Miracle Baby @rsomm will say Purdue wins it all if Big Dog wasn't love wrestling with his teammates in the hotel room, but lightning is going to need to strike twice for Matt Painter to overachieve in March and he'll coach there another 25 years.
Hey. Glad to hear you are thinking of me! I feel bad that I don't think of you when talking sports. Though, not sure if you are implying millenial is an insult... That team had a good shot at the final 4 if healthy. Hard to argue otherwise. Hard to say a team is a lock to win it all as that takes a little luck. Since you insisted in calling me out, why didn't that Hummel team have a good chance at a final 4 or championship?

Just inevitably setting the record straight. We all know you would have interjected your thoughts at one point or the other.

And to me it is still Deer Creek Music Center.

Jordan’s name was more or less wiped off the walls of history, not just here, but at Stanford and a lot of other places. No name plate is sacred. Good becomes bad easier than bad becomes good. Change happens without asking. I’ve always been of the opinion nothing public should be named after someone, dead or alive. Give it more thought, something everyone can enjoy through the coming generations and beyond. Name it after a person and just a few generations later, if that long, no one cares. I understand the thoughtfulness at the time, but come on, Man, there are better ways to honor a man.

No. I quit paying attention a while ago. This thread isn't even on topic with the post anymore. And even when it was, it was just people claiming they know something. Though, it was fun to read everyone thinking they knew.

But what record you setting straight? That the baby Boilers had a legit final 4 chance? I agree.

Yup Deer Creek and Hoosier Dome.

They wore jerseys that said Purdue across the front. For some reason, that alone seems sufficient to cast doubt that they were legit F4 contenders.

Yup. Lost their backup 4. Kind of sucks from a depth perspective. Likely got to campus, scrimmaged some, decided he wanted a minutes guarantee. Purdue will be fine without him.
Their backup? Lol. Sure thing. If that’s what you need to tell yourself.

Heide was starting. Tell me why catchings would start over him and why it took until scrimmaging against Heide and Colvin to decide he needed minute guarantees. Do the math.
It’s been verified by your boy Brian Neubert that Catchings never made it to campus. This talk about assessing his place in the rotation after scrimmages is pure conjecture.

That's not math. That's guessing what his intent was. You're also guessing what the lineups would have been. Basically you're making shit up ..

Yes. I missed that. It was still over minutes though I think. Is what it is. I was more excited for his year 2. I think the 3 guards and Jacobson being ready are more important for this season. I’d have said that yesterday as well.

It will be tough from a defensive standpoint, but the defense is going to have to evolve and have more guard pressure. Good news is, the wing is way more athletic. Offensively, TKR will average 15-8 imo. Doesn’t have Edey now.

You've got to start 5, right? So, if you're right about TKR and Heide, and you can assume Smith and Loyer.... Catchings likely would've been competing with Colvin for that 5th spot, imo. Huge loss any way you slice it.

I don’t think so. Not right away at least. I had smith, Loyer, Colvin, Heide, TKR. With a chance of Catchings starting by January. Had catchings as the backup 4, but TKR could also play some backup 4 with Jacobson or Burg at the 5. Two of Cox, Benter, and Harris to backup the 1-2.

With catching gone, two of Benter, Cox, and Harris to play the backup 1-3. I think Harris is the most important incoming freshman for a backup PG. Needing a 2/3 now might open the door for Benter over Cox since he’s 6’6 215. Will be interesting to see how the lineup plays out. Two years from now is when Purdue will really miss Catchings imo, if he stuck around.

You have 6 guys who have played a meaningful minute of college basketball; two of them being minor role players last year (Colvin + Heide) and Furst who has regressed every single year. That leaves Purdue with 3 solid starters, two high upside players who haven’t proven anything, and Furst who is serviceable at best.

Best case scenario Colvin and Heide take significant jumps and you just become a team with no bench, but most likely scenario is that you get a mixed bag with those two (inconsistency) and have to play 8,9 guys some who have no business playing big minutes right away.

Who would be the guys that have no business playing big minutes that would need relied on?

Pick a combination of Cox/Benter, Harris, Berg/Jacobsen, and Waddell??

That’s really my point unless Painter plans to play 7 guys next year.
I don’t see why Benter, Harris, or Jacobson can’t play. Haven’t watched much of Cox. Burg is completely unknown and was kind of behind the 2 time national player of the year.
