Some good news:

Got a message of Colorado Dept. of Public Healt that I’m due for my second Covid booster. Emailed my PCP to ask for her recommendation. Heard back in 3 hours, yes she recommends it. Went to Walgreens for shot. Didn’t have my card. No card no shot. Remembered that Colorado Dept of public health keeps vaccination records for everyone. (Why is a different story). Plinked around on their website for a few minutes and found my entire record, going back to year 2000. Showed my record to the pharmacist. Got the shot. Went home. Everything worked.
Yes, but it was thanks to YOU doing the job THEY should have done.

The pharmacist should have known about those records and looked it up - they are getting paid to deliver those vaccinations, which are so important to public health that doctors and nurses who don't take them get fired.

Glad they didn't kill ya.

Sending them a Uncle Jo Participant Medal.

There was an article in the paper this week, a guy moved to Bloomington and went looking for a new GP. Researching them he decided on choice A. Choice A has an opening in August of 2023. He asked about choices B and C. They had openings in 2.5 years. The soonest he could get in to see anyone was 3 months.

2 weeks ago I was injured and after a day of, "this will get better", I decided I needed to see someone. The IU walk-in clinic on the east side said that if I showed up, they might be able to work me in but might not. Their appointment slots were completely full and several people were waiting to be worked in with an estimated wait of 7 hours. The West side walk-in clinic had one appointment for 6:15, I snagged it. When I was there, I heard a person come in wanting to be seen. Nope, they could not that Monday. Their Tuesday was now full, and if they wanted a Wednesday slot they better decide now as it was mostly full.

Good thing we don't have waits like Canada.
Two weeks ago had a broken blood vessel in eye. Because I’m on thinners, it was red as hell, but I could see fine. Because I have AMD, I went to ER to have it checked out.

>5 minute wait.
Station #1. BP, Blood oxygen check, why are you here.
Station #2. RN looks at eye, takes a brief history, and sends me to . . .
Station#3. Ophthalmology ER room. In comes PA. Checks eye with that light gizmo, checks vision, and reports broken blood vessel, no big deal. Thinners make it look worse than it is. Sends me to . . .
Station#4. Pay copay and leave.

Whole thing less than an hour. Slick as a whistle,

Maybe. There was a line. Her job was to pass on scripts, retrieve filled scripts, and say “next”. Kinda like a robot.

Today’s American Consumer Report:

The Pre-Surgical Screener called yesterday. We’re making the second attempt at performing lithotripsy to remove kidney stones which put me in the ER on 4/18. First one scheduled for 4/25 was canceled as they rolled me toward the operating room - when they “discovered” I had an aortal aneurism that was diagnosed in 2012, and was also in my ER records from 4/18, when I was referred to their business by ER doctors. Screener signed me up for a pre-lithotripsy EKG and instruction session on how to shower with anti-bacterial soap. Issued instructions which differ from written info already received regarding when to stop taking vitamins, aspirin and prescription meds prior to 6/16 procedure. Also differed from instructions issued prior to failed 4/25 procedure. Could not/would not answer any of my questions - “that’s clinical - you should call your primary care physician who had zero involvement with the AAA repair or either of the lithotripsies.” Should I take my Covid booster for the procedure - it’s overdue? “ Call your doctor.” Couldn’t even say whether the 6/16 lithotripsy on my kidney will impact the kidney function test I am supposed to schedule on my own between 6/16 and 6/22 so that aortal aneurism surgeon can see if that repair is interfering with kidney function. “Call your doctor- who will force you to select from unhelpful phone menu selections and then talk to someone who can’t answer your medical questions.” Finally said “please have someone from the surgeon office call me.” “OK.” No call.

Called a Honda dealer - to whom former client sold his now-nameless business. Phone menu Unhelpful. Talked to “service scheduler.” Couldn’t tell me the fee for “diagnostics” - but scheduled an appointment. Asked “can we bring it and drop it off Saturday for the Wednesday diagnostics - family has travel and medical issues?” “Yes, and I’ll have someone call you today about the fee.” Potential for actual customer service? No. No call. Called them back today. “No - you can’t drop it off early - you must drop it off at the scheduled time so you can talk to the service AGENT in charge of your car - they are an important cog in our service wheel, but your convenience and inconvenience is not relevant - our policies and practices are for OUR convenience - shut up and pay.”

The National Anthem was destroyed by a really cool performer last night. It was all about HIM and the actual art can go suck a big one, as can all the fans - screw them, LOOK AT ME.

Tried to buy a recliner chair in November. Was told “cant deliver until January.” I said “OK.” January came - no call. I called them. “Will ship next week.” This same lie sequence occurred 3 more times. Last one - will ship March 10. I said if it doesn’t, money back. It didn’t. I got credit. Same business called me this week looking to schedule the delivery of the chair, which is nowin their warehouse and needs to be delivered. I told them to deliver it to the sales floor.

America is filled with incompetent businesses and employees. Report your experiences here. Then we send the list to Biden, who cured Covid just by taking the Presidential oath - HE IS OUR ANSWER! HE CAN EVEN KEEP MUSTARD OFF YOUR HAMBURGER AT MCDONALDS!
Shorter MTIOTF - “Can’t anyone here play this game?!”

It is you! For years people here have complained about others using the ER as their GP and it turns out it was you.

Now I’m home and a garage door guy is supposed be here in 10 minutes and I’m pre-mad in anticipation of him being late.
That sounds like me going to the airport to catch a flight. I'm mad before I get there because I know they're gonna screw up something.

I used to be polite and understanding. All it got me was abusive incompetence.

I’m now the Ralph Nader of customer service.
That is the way I see it too. It's like dealing with someone that's always late. If a person is just about always on time I'll wait for them because I know something has happened but if a person is always late they get NO grace time from me. People are like that because they've got away with it all their life and I refused to be used by that type of person and that exactly what's being done with people you're talking about.

Call your primary care physician. Unless of course they are an employee of the hospital and are therefore a salaried employee. When did we start seeing hospitals “purchase” the vast majority primary care physician practices?

A large number of Bloomington physicians are IU Health. My PCP is a nurse practitioner, and it isn't easy to get in.

Employees of IU health? As opposed to owning their own practice?
Your NP probably sees 15 patients a day…max.
I assume so, one can go to a general IU Health website and see all of them, make appointments, get your data, they all share the same computer system.

Anecdotally…access to efficient primary care decreased drastically with physician acquisition by hospitals.
They get paid the same whether they see 15 patients a day or 30 patients a day.
About 10 years ago, we started seeing this occur in my area. The quality of care has likewise diminished.

I will mention an article I have shared often, completion is key in cost. As these big groups dominate, competition falls, costs go up, and availability goes down. It largely is happening everywhere.

If we don't have competition we might as well have socialized medicine.

Is there a privately owned practice you could get into and see if your access to care is better?
I am a patient at a privately owned practice and if I feel I need an appointment tomorrow….I will call in the morning and they will get me in.
If government legislation has contributed to the problem, I am hesitant to wish for more. (I’m not say it has but the timing is interesting)

I will say, the walk-in clinics I went to was private. But it was filled up for the next day plus.

I used to go to the other hospital's GPs. But most of the specialists are IU, so I got tired of trying to remember everything going back and forth. Also they have a doctor suing them claiming their quotas are so high they can't do their jobs properly.

The great conundrum, we all want in now but we want the doctor to listen to our every word and not rush us through.

Today’s first American employee fail is easy - another media failure. While was in law school, we used to count the number of mistakes in the Indy Star. Theyd tell you who to vote for, but couldn’t spell or ed

The on-line version of Golf magazine - writing about the Women’s US Open at Pine Needles - says thus as its opening - OPENING - FIRST WORDS!

“SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. — Pine Needles, the host of this week’s U.S. Women’s Open, is a classic Donald Ross design in the Sandhills of North Carolina. There’s no course in that’s hosted the Women’s Open more than Pine Needles.”

I’m sure there will be apologies and promises to do better about not hurting anyones feelings by pointing out their inability to do their basic job, and a commitment to never demand competence again.

PS - it was hard to type this because the software auto-corrects by erasing earlier edits. More failed customer service.

This thread reminds me of an experience some fifty years ago which involved a reunion of my fraternity brothers.

For starters, it should be known most of those gathered were many years older than yours truly. The meeting started off by having each of us telling something about ourselves. One of the first story tellers mentioned health problems. From that point on, all I heard were litanies about health woes.

Long before it was my turn to speak, I quietly exited the hall.

Beginning to think we Coolerites are showing our age.

Getting back to competence, The competence one experiences has a lot to do with where you live and the choices available.

The car my son bought last Wednesday can’t be picked up until next Wednesday.

Not enough employees to process and safety check and wash and vacuum and etc.

Bet they sell it “as is” unless he buys a warranty!

This site is wonky. Posters are having posts show up multiple times. The software was not broken, but was “fixed” by tech idiocracy.

Set the dogs loose.

Effective NOW, my motto is “you either provide customer service or you don’t”

When some business tells me a sob story about why they suck at delivering the goods or service their business was created to provide, I’m telling them “I am sorry - I don’t mean to be rude, but I don’t care - you either provide customer service or you don’t - it is not my job to solve your s supply or personnel problems - I’’ll take my business elsewhere - good luck.”

I’m done enabling incompetence, laziness, excuses, and explanations. My clients hired/fired me based on service and results.

Make America Competent Again!

Some businesses are born to fail. Let it be. Make room for the workers and problem solvers.

You are very sad person. Are you okay?

Well, what's wrong with your son, then? He didn't catch those details until after he signed on the line which is dotted?

That's weird because I got all my shots at Walgreens. Misplaced my card. Went to another Walgreens and the pharmacist filled out a whole new card for me. It's all on your records.

I found my old one about 2 hours later. Whoops! Now I keep one in my wallet and another in my passport.

Remember when these hypocrites bitched about George W Bush being unable to cut through 200 miles of closed roads in 3 days after Hurricane Katrina?

Well, even if you could afford the food, gas or find baby formula, you can't go to Yellowstone while these idiots run your government.

I assume its Putin's fault.

Been dealing with medical staff.

And no, I am not still taking the z pak given to me in 1997.

So I needed to re-order my Rheumatoid Arthritis meds. Specialty Pharmacy says Anthem says my drug - which has been covered since 2014 - is not covered. Get Anthem and pharmacy on phone together. “Same patient - same condition - same doctor - same drug - same pharmacy - same insurance plan - explain why I can’t have my meds.” Typical American answer - “we don’t know - ask your doctor.” Typical ME answer - “no, YOU do YOUR job and ask my doctor.” Anthem says they will and get back to me. Still waiting on that call back. but I of course check my doc, and learn what Anthem and pharmacy did not - “they say wrong code - will fix”. Got an e-notice in the middle of the night from the pharmacy that my meds could be re-ordered. Still waiting to hear from Anthem. Ordered my meds without waiting.

So next, I have delayed my “next recommended Covid booster” so the rest of the medical world could have their way with me. Went to CDC site to make sure I was eligible. Yes. Asked where to get it. Kroger Pharmacy in my zip code. Clicked link, answered 15 minutes of questions (And no, I am not still taking the z pak given to me in 1997), and got me an appointment. Go to get the boost Today. “Can’t give it to you- Kroger policy says you have had 3 shots and a booster. 3+1=4. Kroger won’t allow more than 4.” typical me response - “you are wrong, both CDC and Kroger websites say I’m ok.” Non-typical employee response - “if you will be quiet I will explain.” Typical me response - “no, go talk to your boss, you get 5 minutes until I start my way up the Kroger food chain.” Next employee response - “sorry, you are right - this website flyer for patients says you can have an extra- didn’t check CDC - who is that.”

Untrained and lazy employees have your health in their hands. Be careful out there.

Guys like me have to keep the promises you assholes make. And get the blame when we don't. Fvck you
Sounds fair to me. :)

But kidney stones required a CT scan that showed it needed fixing ASAP. So I have titanium in my aorta, and waiting for the stones to be lithotripsied out 6/16.
I'm a gravel pit. :) The last one I had required two lithotripsies. I've been kinda unlucky with them... had one while on vacation in Washington state (knew I was in trouble when I heard the doctor say "He's got a bolder, not a stone" ). The doctor just gave me some pain pills and sent me on my way. I used the pain pills sparingly because I definitely wanted to have one or two when I flew home. Then I had another when I was helping our daughter in IL. Needless to say I don't leave home on any vacation without pain pills.... most are expired but I still take them with me.

I had a round in 2017. Asked the current doc "are these 2022 stones the same 2017 ones?" Answer was typical - "we don't know."

Asked him Tuesday - "are we taking out the ones still in the kidney?" Answer - "we don't know yet - pay on the way out - see you in July."

Taking the stent out improved quality of life - lots less peeing (!) - but not completely yet.

Does your insurance require you to get the med thru a specialty pharmacy?
If not…locate an independent and they will probably be able to order for next day pickup.
It sounds like your insurance is requiring a prior auth…so there will still be a delay. Unless you just show them the Benjamins.
