I agree. In over 40 years of practice, I’ve never seen this happen.Actually mine was as well but there can be a requirement for the donee to pay the tax if unpaid, if you want to be accurate.

I did have something interesting happen regarding the IRS going after unpaid taxes. I had client on not-for-profit board. The organization didn’t pay payroll taxes. The IRS took the entire balance out of my client’s account. I don’t think he ever recovered the money from the entity or other board members.
