You don't mean that. I mean I'm as fine with it as the next guy but there's nothing exciting about this hire.

It's growing on me......25, 27, & 29 wins the last three years at a traditional doormat program looks pretty good.

Given that he was the asst HC there you do wonder why he didn't stay around and try to get a HCing job elsewhere.....maybe he's a guy who just likes playing a role and wants to be around a big-time program again....

It is a higher profile position, IU likely pays better, and he played at IU.

In a year or two, Wes Miller will probably be moving on from UNCG, as he's been doing really well there. Mike perhaps figures that if he's moving anyway, he might as well jump to the bigger program now, and a place that he loves being, as opposed to whatever random Power 5 school throws enough money at Wes Miller to pull him away. Seems like it makes a lot of sense for Roberts...and if Archie gets canned in two years, who knows, Wes Miller might be filling out a new staff around then.

Whether it makes as much sense for IU or not will depend on whether Roberts can actually coach and recruit. We'll see. He wasn't much of a player, but that's true of a lot of coaches, some of whom are good.

I see it fitting in with the Galloway-Leal recruiting classes......getting some highly motivated, loyal guys....now just need a couple of studs to go with....

Practicals is not always exciting. Our last coach did a lot of exciting things.
A lot of frantic prancing up and down the sidelines followed by a gulp of green tea or Diet Coke. I can't wait to see Georgia play Syracuse and their match-up zone defense.

He’s the 3rd assistant - it’s not that important. It’s not a great hire but it’s not a disaster either. I would be curious to know how many people told Archie no before he got to Mike.

Agreed, like I said I'm fine with it, he's a good guy. It's just not quite as exciting as some of the other candidates, he could turn out to be the best fit though for sure. Nobody really knows at this point.

It appears that Archie is playing the Long Game of changing the culture and bringing in players that fit his system, working toward an upperclass led team similar to the Texas Tech model rather than the Duke/UK, One and Done, annual reload model.

wall2boogie, a.k.a, Pander Bear. I think this is his new name from now on.

He gets confused easily. Unlike many uk fans, IU fans can read and we know what he says about IU fans on other boards.
Don’t forget you don’t sleep with your family members that’s a big one for us.

Thanks, Pander Bear, but we know kentucky is a mess. I believe you still have a law requiring you to bathe once a year. No joke. Look it up.

Hopefully you will Like this post in agreement. I wouldn't want to be the poster you do not Like.

"ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. -- A state law mandating that people take a bath once a year is just one of many unusual - some bizarre - statutes that are or have been on the books in Kentucky.

"There are a lot of crazy laws out there," said Ruben Gardner, Elizabethtown's chief of police.

"Another state law, for example, stated that "No female shall appear in a bathing suit on any highway within this state unless she be escorted by at least two officers or unless she be armed with a club." The law was later amended with: "The provisions of this statute shall not apply to females weighing less than 90 pounds nor exceeding 200 pounds, nor shall it apply to female horses."

Kentucky, where women are fast and horses are beautiful.

I’m a fan of the insults, especially the funny ones. Unfortunately, we would only have about 10 people walking the streets in Kentucky if the law was enforced

Same question as Squonk Too had,

"I'm curious: who exactly would have been an excellent hire for this third assistant coach position?"

Answer Squonk Too's question?
Well I was hearing Michael Lewis and Dane Fife were the best potential hires but I'm not going to be too candid as assistant coaches are really hard to judge. I mean at one point Ed Schilling looked like a home run.

I really don't care who's on the sidelines with Archie as long as IU wins games.

A big name or someone with strong ties to big AAU programs.

Neither Mike Lewis nor Dane Fife were available. Dane Fife is the associate coach for Michigan State, so being hired away to fill the third assistant position at Indiana would have been a big step down. Also, he is rumored to be the heir apparent to Coach Tom Izzo. Mike Lewis just accepted the third assistant coach position at UCLA for Coach Mick Cronin in May.

That's fine, I think you're taking my post a little too seriously. I just said that it wasn't an exciting hire, not that it couldn't turn out great.

Ultimately the wins and losses will fall on Archie, as it should be. If he thinks Mike Roberts is the guy to get him there then I have no problem with it. IU just needs to win.

I like it for no other reason than he's an IU guy and from RMKs coaching tree, albeit as a GA. It's about damn time we had an Indiana guy on the bench again.
