Israel under attack from Hamas

Am I crazy, or are the Houthis actually doing dramatic damage to the Palestinian cause with this nonsense?
In all honesty…I think the Palestinians have hurt their own cause. The Houthis are just poking the bear. I’m interested to see how this coalition works out. So far, the allied navies have a mixed bag regarding their record of protecting shipping

I think the long haul was actually going the way Hamas hoped: day after day of Israel being the aggressor, gradually allowing Hamas' role as instigator to fade into the background. It's not ideal, of course, but they were worried about being totally forgotten, so they banked on that being their only play, and it seemed to be kind of working (see: UN vote for ceasefire). But all the Houthis are doing is pissing off people the Palestinians would prefer to have in their corner.

I can see what you are getting at..I think we need to look beyond the possibility of the Israel-Hamas War expanding if Israel carries out retaliatory strikes against Yemen.

Let’s see what happens with the shipping lanes. Up to now, most attention seems to be focused on self-defense or intercepting drones and missiles en route to Israel. Up to this point, shipping has been mainly left to defend for itself.

I know the Arab governments always have to worry about what their populist factions are whining about, but at some point, money always makes the call, doesn't it? It will be interesting to see what kind of hit Egyptian revenues take from this threat to shipping.

US destroyers have been doing most of the work so far. Let’s see if the French and British become more involved. The USS Carney shot down 14 Houthi drones in one engagement on Friday. A French destroyer has shot down 2 and a Royal Navy destroyer shot one down as well. I think we are way past time where we should take out all of their radar and command and control positions

I agree. If I were Biden, the only thing I would be waiting for would be something I mentioned a couple of times before: how to leverage our increased activity in Yemen against the Saudis. I mean, they're technically allies, but really our alliance is highly transactional, and they would love for us to blow the shit out of the Houthis. So let's get something out of it.

I'm imagining some kind of deal that involves us basically doing for the Saudis what they've been trying to do in Yemen (but only with weapons; keep all the troops Saudi), and in exchange, they promise to not only pick up where they left off, but double down on Israeli rapprochement as soon as the Gaza conflict cools. And, I'd expect Saudi support for whatever post-Hamas transitional plan is put in place in Gaza.

Word is that Austin is going to announce a coalition to keep the sea lanes open. This will test the US and NATO response to a critical route being attacked or obstructed. What tactics will they decide to implement? What techniques? What procedures? Hopefully they are successful…actually I think it is critical that the coalition is successful

Probably using a million dollar missile to shoot down a thousand dollar drone.

The fact that Egypt refused to join was the warning that trouble was ahead.

Egypt’s revenue from the Suez Canal is totally dependent on Red Sea traffic

I know this is the wrong answer, but part of me wants to tell Egypt and Europe to just deal with it, and call all our ships home.

Egypt should be begging to join this operation.

You can't expect our government to ignore the Land of God. It would be unholy and evil..

LCS which stands for Littoral Combat Ship is commonly referred to in the Navy as Lousy Combat Ship. They didn't turn out to be what they were supposed to be and we're already decommissioning them. Should have spent the money to upgrade our FFGs (frigates).
This is the kind of mission that was tailor-made for the LCS. But…as you said they are a raging failure. $31 billion that could have been spent on other things. It looks like 6 are available for this type of job. The others are mine hunters?

I don't really know what they're doing with them. The first ones were coming online as I was leaving my last ship. The first deployments were disasters. The concept never worked out. The concept was that they would be able to change out a module on the ship based on what mission they were going to be doing, like Undersea Warfare, or doing counter drug operations, whatever. That concept failed miserably, and I believe they all can do the same thing and not all that well. Plus, they also made the mistake of really doing two classes of ship rather than one. They have the Freedom version which is a monohull and the Independence version which is a tri-hull. One positive thing I can say is they're pretty fast and the tri-hull version is very cool looking. I think we're trying to sell them to partner (sucker) nations. They should theoretically be OK for coastal patrols.

This is the article I read.

DeSantis and Haley.
I assume you mean those 2 are the most dovish? Disagree. Haley is itching to show she's a player on the international stage and can back up her tough talk.

Desantis is ex-military and I don't think he would take any crap from the likes of Iran.

Now, if you meant they're the most hawkish, I would agree.

True dat. Haley is hawkish to the point of embarrassment.

10/7 is Putin’s birthday didn’t you know?

Well, she may not be entirely wrong. Putin's goal is to weaken western support for Ukraine and is getting weapons from Iran. Causing another war to take the heat off his Ukraine adventure would make sense.

I have no doubt Iran got at least an approval from Putin before they set things in motion on 10/7.

Doubtful. Russia is in no position to sign off on anything. And Iran didn’t commit 10/7, Hamas did. So you’re essentially Nikki Haley with six degrees of separation accusations. Let’s attack all of them!

Why don’t you just come it and admit that you want to bomb, bomb, bomb,,,,, bomb, bomb Iran.

If the states launching a proxy war are open to the same attack as the militants they are funding then by definition Russia has the right to attack us.

You think Hamas does anything without approval from Iran? C'mon....

You think Russia would attack us? lmao.
