Israel under attack from Hamas

The whole area should be given a month to get out.
Yeah, that isn't gonna happen. You already have had an enemy with a bunch of time to prepare they are not going to give them another month to dig in. The Israelis have to take reasonable measures to protect civilian lives, that isn't reasonable. You would be increasing your own casualties.
All of this over buildings and spots on maps for thousands of years. Religion is grand.
Yes, the atheists in the Soviet Union, China, Cambodia, etc. were so much more reasonable.

I'll say it's a subjective topic. He feels it's thrown in his face then that's his reality. It's not wrong or right. Others don't really notice it and don't feel it's thrown in their face then that's their reality. Agree to disagree.
Sure...just wondering how the others aren't thrown in his face. That's all.

I try not to be subjective, let alone impacted, in those situations.

Reminds me of the Wino Mom's Club (Mom's for Liberty now, then called Unify Carmel) was out to fight to get the rainbow back from the LGBTQ community. LOL It didn't work.

It all seems petty.

I meant the whole cradle of religion. Both sides.

What they do to their own people comes with its own set of consequences. The 'whataboutism' in the holy land has been the largest threat to this planet, and it isn't going away any time soon.

Maybe because there is more at play there than you are comfortable to admit.

ACOG trending on twitter right now

They better hurry. They are being given more of a chance than the people at that music festival or in the town where they were killing children in their beds.

War is ugly. The Israelis are giving quarter that they would never be given in return by their enemies. After Saturday they aren't likely to just say, "OK, we're good now" until Hamas is crushed.
It's strange how badly you feel the need to continue to justify Israel's actions, even when they aren't under question.

I have no idea, but neither does anyone else at this moment:
Russia has been capturing some of the US and NATO-provided weapons and equipment left on the battlefield in Ukraine and sending them to Iran, where the US believes Tehran will try to reverse-engineer the systems, four sources familiar with the matter told CNN.

Marv, not much of a need to reverse engineer an M4 or an ACOG. I can go buy an ACOG at any local shop and the internal working of an M4 are common knowledge.

Overly dramatized visual explanation.

Watch Dogs of War with Nic Cage and War Dogs with Jonah Hill. Both good movies about arms dealers. Nic Cage one is loosely based on a real life Russian arms dealer

the atheists in the Soviet Union
The Levada Center found that 71 percent of the (Russian) population identified as Orthodox Christian ..... That's Russia, not USSR if you add old Soviet stats, the Mooslim pop increases. China is 50+ atheist, so you got something there, but Cambodia is 93% Buddhist......

So, maybe, I'm thinking, you really need to read more before speaking.

You joking right now? This news broke months ago.

You should see how triggered mcm gets on St. Patrick's Day.

All that Guinness and wearing green thrown in his face? It's outrageous. And that particular conversion therapy is effective! Half the country claims they are part Irish on SPD. It's frickin' grooming!

The policy of the Soviet state was elimination of religion. The true believing Marxist-Leninist leaders of the USSR were atheists. It’s remarkable that so many citizens of the USSR secretly held on to their religious beliefs.

I hadn't seen that, that is surprising given the Taliban is very Sunni and Iran is very Shiite. Since we left, they have fought battles against each other. If they have traced it, they have traced it. But why would the Taliban give weapons to Iran that could be used against the Taliban? They shouldn't be that dumb, should they?

Religion is not really the driving factor. Hell, a lot of Israelis are not religious, at all. Sure there are some orthodox Jews, but they are a minority (though growing).

In fairness, I think Religion is much more of a driving factor for the Palestinians or at least Hamas. Maybe ethnic bigotry informed by religion.

I think for the Israelis it’s more the idea that 10 million of them can’t exactly pick up and move somewhere else.

When Israel has a negotiating partner, they will happily negotiate, as we’ve seen with the Abraham accords.

On the other hand, settlers tend to be very religious. That's a huge flashpoint in the conflict right there.

More complex on the Palestinian side, as it's more difficult to segment Islam and politics in any Arab population.

But this is not really a religious based conflict, it's an ethnic one over land and sovereignty.

I agree with the Israeli that JDB posted yesterday, Israel should have just withdrawn to the 1967 borders after the war and let Jordan and Egypt annex the area, rather than the endless occupation. Now neither of those countries want anything to do with absorbing the Palestinians.

Notably. Last Saturday’s attack wasn’t on settlements. It was on Israeli territory that hasn’t been disputed at all except in the since that jihadists dispute the very existence of Israel.

As Twenty said, if this was an issue of Israel ceasing building settlements the conflict would be over tomorrow.

Israel’s population is becoming more Orthodox, so things will only get worse over time if this isn’t resolved in the next decade.
