Israel under attack from Hamas

The bs is called on your assessment that neither side wants a one-state solution. I would contend that the Israelis would be happy to have a one state solution & don’t care that the Palestinians aren’t Jewish, as evidenced by all of the other non-Jews that live in Israel peacefully. It’s only one side that doesn’t want a one state solution, the side that uses terrorism to rape, pillage, & murder civilians. So again, bullshit.
That would be a reason for sure and I really don’t think Goat would deny that.

But the fact is a lot of Israelis want Israel to be a Jewish state and would never accept a solution that made them a numerical minority within their own country.

As Goat wrote earlier, while we would normally in the West look down upon such an attitude, given their history it is entirely understandable with the Jewish people.

Even during the 19th century, one of the driving forces behind Zionism was the need to answer the "Jewish question." Israel is basically the Jewish answer to that question, and the Holocaust cemented for many that it is the only answer.

Goat, help me here.

Is the "Jewish question" about whether Jews can live anywhere without persecution thus requiring a Jewish state?

Realize antisemitism exists to some degree in the U.S. and there may be more examples following 10/06. In addition this phenomenon is world wide.

Nevertheless, have American Jewish friends who have visited Israel and returned home thankful for living here.

The "Jewish question" is a euphemism for a discussion about the proper place of the Jews in Western society. Should they have political equality? Religious equality? Etc. During the 19th century, as we were clearly moving away from monarchy toward a global system in which nations (defined as groups of ethnically and linguistically homogenous people within a geographic area) were becoming the baseline for defining international borders and relations, lots of nations had "questions." The "German question" for example largely revolved around whether or not a German state should include Austria or be limited to more northern areas. The Polish question had to do with whether Poland should be independent, or an autonomous nation under the rule of Russia.

The Jewish question was special because they didn't have any land in the West, so the question was about what the West should do with them. Zionists basically responded, "Nothing. Let's just go back to the land of Canaan and forget about Europe."

Wonder if the 21st century will feature the Palestinian Question.
