Is the USA a great nation?

Learn some history, moron. If it wasn't for the GOP, the Civil Rights act wouldn't have been passed.

Stop spouting Democrat lies.
Learn some history, I guess Lyndon Johnson as a gop. You know nothing about history.

Obama was the deporter in chief. Record deportations, blew Trump out of the water.

It must’ve been his White fear.
again wrong trump deported more immigrants w/o trial. That is why the MAGA wants him. We are no longer a country on a shiny hill.

The biggest divide is between young adults and older ones, with the former increasingly saying no.

But:

"The share of adults saying the U.S. stands above all other countries dropped significantly in telephone surveys conducted between 2011 and 2019. While the decline in views of the United States’ global standing was concentrated among Democrats during these years, the decline over the past four years is concentrated among Republicans."

So is our nation great? Still, now, even with our current political divide and two elderly men roundly criticized by most up for President?

(I come asking this question after finishing Masters of the Air. The score makes me nostalgic and proud about this nation better than almost anything I've heard.)

Your question means nothing more than 2.3 cents per click to the originator unless the originator (and you as the re-tweeter) define what a "great nation" is.

Look where they're going to. Look where they're coming from:

merlin_147346146_dc8ed680-faa1-405b-a2f5-26df322ee404-articleLarge.jpg

When you see another flag in the background like the flag of Mexico, Columbia, Venezuela etc. with a line of people in the foreground trying to break in, then and only then are you credible in asking that "question."

It’s Trumpian speak. I don’t fully understand it. But I think it’s a roundabout way of reframing wars in a negative way to compensate for knowing they don’t have what it takes to face danger.
God forbid anyone frame war in a negative light. Must be a Trump thing.

I think the Marshal Plan is one of that generations greatest accomplishments.

The GI Bill was instrumental in building the US, but globally, the effects of US post-war aid - and lack of retribution - changed the course of history for the better.

Danc, your support for the Marshall Plan definitely would be cited by a large majority of Americans knowledgeable about our history.

My thinking as someone who firmly believes the Cold War was a big mistake which haunts world peace for the entire globe to this very day.

This can be seen in Ukraine and the sad state of affairs which exists in Russia under Putin.

Yep, the Marshall Plan set the stage for putting mankind at the risk of a nuclear holocaust during a Cold War which lingers to this very day.

Agree.

However, the country was in an ideal situation compared to the rest of the world.

Wonder how much credit can be given to the GI Bill which enabled many of the post war veterans and future business, government, and community leaders to get a college education.
I think the GI bill gets a lot of credit. That said, the Greatest Generation used the GI bill to great personal and social benefit. With Pell grants, student loan forgiveness, and many other benefits, young adults today have even more benefits . These benefits are wasted in many cases. There are many complicated reasons for that.

Ask Clarence Thomas, the perfect example. He has forgotten what being black means,
Number 1. Read Thomas Sowell’s Basic Economics. I am going to warn you, it’s difficult not to get a hard on reading it. It’s that good.

Number 2. Stop voting for shitty Democrats who institute policies that destroy middle and working class families. Lastly, Socialism sucks.

Why would I vote for redlining, segregation, discrimination bigotry, attacks on minority civil rights or voting rights? Why would I VOTE for the Klan, Proud Boys, or the oathkeepers? Why would I vote for the confederate flag or have gop policies that would take us back to the 1950's . Why would I vote for tax increases for the rich, whose policies do nothing for the poor.? The gop has nothing but fear intimidation and violence.

You should come to our Klan meetings. They’re not quite what they used to be, but the half dozen of us left have a good time.

Sadly, I've seen a cross burning across the river at my school. Yes, it isn't very comforting so much hate, so much violence. You may joke but, I've seen the real thing.

vote for trump , we will have Fascism and Dictatorship. No more Democracy.

IMO, Trump is an electible president because he has been able to capture enough votes in the right places to win the electoral college.

Isn't this what the founders of our democracy gave us ?

Trump's opponents warn us about him taking in an undemocratic authoritarian direction. Could it actually be a big segment of our population is just unhappy with the direction the politicians before Trump were taking us ?

Two, or three, of the Republican candidates running for Governor of Indiana are stressing being outsiders. IMO, they are sensing the Trump theme of voters being dissatisfied with the direction of past pols and want something different.

Bullshit. The Dems are much more likely to destroy the fabric of the republic. Is it likely? No. But the odds are in their favor.
NO, the country is doing well, We are the number 1 country and most prosperous in the world. Our country is doing great with no help from the gop. Keep believing trump and his fear-mongering. He will lead you to isolationism, fear, and violence.

They are white people, who are afraid of the browning of America. They are trying to cut off the advancement and progress of people of color. When Obama came, they decided we could and will allow black people to become equal hence the MAGA and Tea Party movements. trump is their soap box. He can say racist things that others are afraid to. He is the Bigot in Chief.

FYI - it wasn't the GOP who sent you to live in separate parts of the city. That was all KKK-driven Democrats.

Learn some history.

I know all about Lyndon Johnson and his bragging he'd have you all voting Democrat for the next 200 years. And none of the legislation would have passed without the GOP.

The great Democrat hero, KKK Robert Byrd, certainly didn't help pass it.

I don't understand how the Marshall Plan set the stage for putting mankind as the risk of a nuclear holocaust.

It was humanitarian aid, not military.

I'm not sure how you don't blame the Soviet Union for the Cold War, considering their takeover of all of Eastern Europe after the war.

Rather than it being the fear of blacks making progress including equality.

Could it instead be about the fear of Deocrat liberals gaining more power because of an increasing number of Black voters. Blacks who in the past tended to vote for Democrats.

more benefits (maybe?) but heavily outweighed by today's crippling tuition costs. In the 50s you could go to UPENN for a year for $600. That would be about $6k today. Not sure why you'd think the benefits are wasted today. The kids who manage to get degrees today are certainly working towards personal and social benefit but with damn anchors hanging around their necks.

Love me some greatest generationers and boomers but you guys sure pulled the ladder up as soon as you got on board. and then rapidly started spending money the country didn't have, leaving quite a tab for the next generations. well played.

I think the dialogue so far only proves that the US may be a great power. But its certainly not a 'great' nation.
Not exactly a shining example for anyone to emulate.

can't think of a great power worth emulating morally. I guess everyone has their moments, but the empire machine grinds on....

For that matter, everyone thinks they are a 'good guy' from ISIS to Afrikaners.

Nobody fights a cause, thinking they are the 'bad guys'. So most empire builders will think they are doing something morally righteous.

This applies to everyone, unless they are afflicted with cognitive dissonance or delusions.

But unfortunately, most of those living in the empire of that time, always think they are morally superior.
Like how the prosperity gospel rationalises your wealth as a measure of your moral worth.

Ultimately, there is always some rationalisation/manipulation that is fed to the people; whether it is fear, lust for power, insecurities, or greed, depending on the motivational buttons in that culture at that time.

DANC, without a doubt, subjects such as the Yalta Conference which supposedly gave the Soviet Union control over Eastern Europe only until elections could be held, and whether the Marshall Plan was the beginning of the Cold War are highly debatable subjects.

We aren't the ones who didn't allow free elections in our area of responsibility.
