Is it time to stick a fork in DeSantis?

Sorta envy you Republicans as you wage the battle as to which candidate can best wage the cultural war against what is now called wokeism. All the frustration and anger against what DeSantis calls "cultural Marxism" seems to be within the GOP.

Even though I don't have a dog in this fight, I do hope the candidate which prevails in the 2024 GOP primary isn't the most angry one. Frustration with woke politicians and public servants (the deep state) is one thing, but intense anger over a fear that the of basic fabric of the country is at stake in a cultural war is the kind of rhetoric which scares me.

Scares me because democracy is in danger when a country becomes too divided. A cultural war where one side sees moral truths are in danger means consensus with the other side is no longer possible. We are IMO nearing the point of being too divided. Hope I am wrong. Only time will tell.

Large Marge proposed a solution to this.

It is troubling. Look at this board as an example. The angriest guys here are the far-righties, and it's really not surprising. They're fed a constant diet of "all your rights and freedoms are at risk," "you're losing your culture and your way of life," "we're on the verge of World War III," "we're quickly transitioning to a socialist society" by the far-right media and social media. Some of these guys are incapable of posting any content that isn't filtered through some influencer on Twitter. There's no independent thinking, no critical thinking, no interest in finding common ground - - - just a lot of anger. Helluva way to live. And, yes, it doesn't bode well for healthy debate, disagreement and a high-functioning democracy.

Well, that's why there are civil wars and revolutions. We're not immune to that just because we're the USA - we are what we are because of revolution and civil war.

Anyone who can look at Democrat-run states and cities and think that's the way the country should be run are beyond any reasoning. And 59 years of social engineering set in motion by guilt-ridden Democrats got us to where we are. So, please don't expect half the country to just blithely go along down that road.

You shouldn’t be so dismissive of the cultural war. Our political system follows culture. Marxists thrived on the cultural battle of pitting one class/culture of people against another class of people. We are seeing the same thing here and now as intolerance is nurtured and growing by various vested interests in aspects of the cultural wars. This is very evident in our traditions of free expression. Now with the shunning and penalties imposed on many different groups because of what they say, think, or do, or the color of their skin, our freedom of expression is threatened. You mentioned “consensus” in your post. While consensus is useful in some contexts, it should never be the overriding objective. Instead we need more tolerance and acceptance of those with whom we disagree. We are slouching towards a culture where those with whom we disagree are to be cancelled. That is divisive.

Then why are they doing all they can to stop him from running? My answer is FEAR.

I bet Biden would love if Trump ran because that is his best shot at being re-elected.

So, I'm not sure it's necessarily to keep Trump from running but rather to make sure there are repercussions so another president down the line doesn't think he can start his own dictatorship by subverting the will of the people.

Get yourself better set up with fake electors and a VP that would assist and someone might think they can succeed where Trump failed. If there are no repercussions, then what is the harm of giving it a shot.

And the people going after him for financial crimes...I'm not sure there is an argument to be made that Trump should be above the law in his business dealings.

Edit: got my laugh of approval by danc. he definitely finds the truth humorous so I would say it was a post well done ;)

Look at you as an example. You posted twice in response to my criticism of the never Trumpers in 2020. Both were personally pointed at me. While you arent compelled to respond to me on there merits, the fact that you chose to respond as you did shows me that you are more angry than thoughtful.

I don't remember what I posted in 2020 but sure, guy. Whatever you say.

Boarding a plane shortly, so am unable to continue the discussion. Have fun ranting with/at someone else.

Yes, but the poverty rates, healthcare issues, and lack of education in the red states is a real model for success.

@DANC get him!!!! This is how they do you when they KNOW you aren’t up yet!!!!!

My point stands. Many people fleeing are due to retirees seeking warmer weather. If you head south as a young family better budget for parochial schools.
And taxes. And blue policies. It’s not a coincidence fla and tx are exploding

Not denying that, but many younger educated people are still moving to large blue state cities.

I'll say this. Leave everything else about Florida the same but put it on the map in place of North Dakota. Think the growth is happening at the same rate? Weather and beaches play a big role. Interior Florida is an ugly hell hole.

They do but so too do taxes and policies. The number of companies relocating to fla and tx is incredible. Fla had more new business filings than any state. If I was starting a biz would I go to a state with no income tax and that will stay open or Pritzker in Illinois? Or New York where my income is taxed to hell. It’s a no brainer. If the co I was working with was in fla instead of Illinois during Covid I’d be retired today.

State policies matter

Funny you seem extremely angry in every post you make. Your last independent thought was .............I have yet to see one so no point of reference on that but do carry on! You are entertaining.

Of course you're not denying it - numbers don't lie.

Who gives a shit if 25 year olds want to be edgy by living in smelly, crime-ridden dump.

CoH, agree consensus is not the ultimate objective. Consensus is a means to an objective. The objective being the passage of laws which reflect enough opinions to gain a majority.

Consensus thus reflects tolerance and acceptance of the opinions of those with whom we respectfully disagree.

Notice I said respectfully disagree. This should tell you where I stand on cancel culture along with labelling and name calling.

Who cares about old people who will be dead in 10 years or less? See how easy it is to play these silly games? Do better.

Maybe because educated people don't see it is as a smelly, crime-ridden dump and would rather not live with the redneck, sister lovin hillbillies ;)

See, we can all make ridiculous generalizations.

Fear is probably part of it. Because EVERYONE associated with Trump knows how inept he is. How many people who worked for him do people need to hear that from to believe it? He’s an idiot who knows zero about running the country and refused to listen to anyone. Anyone with half a brain cell would be afraid to have him in office again.

I think Zeke can whoop you. Provide the date, time and location where you take her on and I’ll show up to make sure you don’t cheat.
I’m a lover not a fighter. Never come close to a fight in my life. Slapped a girlfriend in high school because she was drunk and had to go home to parents. She slapped me back and we both peed our pants from laughing. That’s the extent. But I appreciate your belief in me!!

How he left was the result of a lying media and lying Democrat party who had him convicted of being a Russian lackey. It's since been proved the FBI knew it was all bullshit and yet put the country through it.

Then there are the 2 bogus impeachments.

I don't blame Trump one bit for thinking he got screwed in the election, because history shows all the false accusations against him.
Speaking of lying…. I assume you heard Rupert admit that all of Fox News was lying about the election? They were afraid they’d lose their audience if they told the truth. You know, the easily duped.

So now you are saying the pandemic was Trumps fault? You are like a 4 year old with her first sparkler on the 4th of July any time Trump is mentioned. You have absolutely no credibility or ability to actually think you just go running through the neighborhood waving your sparkler

I dunno hoot. We are in the mode now where if we don’t have something to disagree about, we make something up. Take East Palestine. Buttegeig lept at the chance to blame Trump’s deregulation. Then he was laughed off the stage for being so clueless. The GOP climbed up various administration’s officials rear ends for not visiting the site. What should have happened is that the Democrats in the administration should have taken the stage with the GOP governor, Senator, and member of congress together and assured the people that their government had their backs together. But noooo. We must turn everything into a fight, into a dispute, into you are incompetent, or you are a threat to Democracy. I’m sick of all of it. .

Now we are in a position where 2024 will likely be a replay of 2020 where are choice is between a mostly despised president and an absolutely incompetent one. Why can’t we do better?
