Indiana Basketball coach search 2.0 - "Legit candidates" and "not gonna happen."

I’m not triggered by anything YOU bring here, because the way you put it, it’s only what you supposedly have heard. If it’s legit inside information, great. Let the board know. If not, most will accept YOUR opinion whether they like it or not. Now slide on.

See, that's what you don't understand.... you don't have to take my info as truth. You don't have to read my info at all.

I could be making it up or I might not be. I do have a track record on this board though of bringing solid info, so if people want to believe me, cool. If not, I'm going to lose about zero hours of sleep.

I'm free to post whatever the hell I want to, which coincidentally, is the same privilege you have. Weird how that works, huh?

no, you're wrong. It was just my personal opinion. I am not an insider and have never claimed to be. Lighten up. Relax ... go watch tv or something.
Then explain why you are are making the comment when you post it. We all have our personal opinions. I think that’s what’s great about this forum. Sometimes others like it and sometimes they don’t. If your feeling a get hurt, then don’t play the game. I’ve changed my thinking on some of the issues from past posts because the poster explained their position. In the end most of our opinions aren’t going to be the deciding factor for anything that we can control.

All I’m asking is if you are bringing solid legitimate info, let the rest of the board know how you are aware of it.Dont just say I heard. If it’s an opinion, then state it as that. I think for the most part, the people posting enjoy sharing their comments about IU as long as it doesn’t become a crazy bitch match. I would hope it’s all about supporting the best IU sports that is possible.

Why would I post who I've heard it from if I want to keep getting info from said person.

Come on man.

I'll go ahead and say it's Scott's neighbors uncle. There, you've got someone, so you know it's true.

He doesn’t need to hear any pitch. He knows the pitch, top 5-10 NIL, more pay than he’s getting at Michigan and he gets to come home.

So then nobody should ever interview for a job because they know what they're getting into?

Yeah, that makes zero sense.

In this case Dusty knows right now if he’s willing to sit down with Scott. My guess is Scott knows through back office discussions with Dusty’s agent whether he’s willing to leave Michigan after one year.

You can bitch about his phrasing all you want, but one thing you can be certain of is if Baller offers something up, it's solid.

Oh, I'm sure if Scott has an idea on what May is thinking right now.

What I also know is that the season still has about a month to go, so there's a lot that's going to go on between now and then.

We'll see what happens.

It does no good to look back, but damn, we could be Michigan this year with Dusty. Quinn and the big donors made the monumental mistake giving us Woodson another year.

Personally I’d think the ethics police at IU would be against the hire this year. Leaving Michigan after just one year could be seen as a character flaw.
See that’s where you aren’t very good. Do you think a traffic ticket is the same as murder? Do you think leaving after one year is the same as beating up a woman? Hint: it is not. I don’t think anyone except for MIchigan will care if he leaves after one year, especially to come home.

I think he probably will too.
I hope so. But I fear UM is going to love what they see, and they have a lot of $. They can boost his contract, budget, and NIL. He may stay there and keep building, it’s a good school and lower pressure job.

Maybe we can offer a little more money/NIL and easier transfers, but our program is a mess. I think we have to hope he loves IU.

Not hiring him last year is looking like a huge mistake. We could be doing well in the court and have a great ‘25 recruiting class with guys like Mullins. Ugh.

Michigan is trying to work on a new contract with him.

It'll all be about the buyout.

We’ll see.

I love how you rocket scientists think all this superficial shit is somehow a game changer. Yeah, I’m sure if we just put names on the jerseys and got rid of the candy stripes guys like Donavan and Pearl would be on their knees begging for the job…
Funny how you focus on examples of how IU focuses on symbolic traditions...but ignore the substantive examples of how IU can return to success by hiring an accomplished coach with vision and building a new arena. Major in minors if it blows your skirt up.

Who did Beard murder?

Purdue's reliance on the portal will continue to grow and they will need to significantly increase their NIL resources to keep up. They won't be able to continue with a potential AA and cornerstone of the team making the same money as Gabe Cupps.
I'm not so sure. Why would his guys leave when they see that he wins? He recruits guys who value winning over money. IU used to be that way. A few smart deals- sure, I get it. But in general, get guys who are focused on improving and winning as a team.

Does anyone think it won't be Dusty? He'll get a Brad-similar offer and I think he wants it. He knows he can get it done in the Big Ten now. He may not be everyone's first choice but I think he's in everyone's top 3.

He owes a 1.5m signing bonus back if he resigns before April 1 but has the low buy out. So first week of April.

Then we can switch the debate to roster speculation. Wolf? Will Mullins decommit and stay home? Can Dustys staff resurrect any of our existing players?

“Winning over money”

Ha ha

Think we'll try for him. I don't think he leaves Michigan but we'll see.

I think Beard should be considered but also think it's likely (but not certain) that IU is not going to take a chance on him. I hope they don't waste his time. He's a good coach and will win wherever he is.

I'd also be happy with McCullum I think, as a less proven hire.

Good chance we actually hire none of the above.

IU used to be that way pre NIL

The model you describe is romantic but will be more difficult to sustain as each season passes. Remember, pu made the FF with a free throw merchant that they paid $800k for.

I would offer as soon as they are eliminated pay the buyout and get to recruiting and building a strong staff.

They screwed up WITH the Knight firing
I’m still under the impression that Knight was the one who screwed it up. If he was still winning B1G titles and having deep tourney runs, then he would’ve stayed on. What the administration screwed up was replacing Knight. Still having that problem.

People state strong opinions on coaches taking jobs based solely on the schools involved and their opinions on which is a better job. Fact is, these coaches have thousands of things going on in their lives and nobody knows how those things will affect their decision.

Yeah, your track record is as solid as anyone on here. I’m also trying to figure out in a chain of nothing but opinions why he’s so mad at yours. Keep providing your info because I always appreciate your two cents.
