Indiana Basketball coach search 2.0 - "Legit candidates" and "not gonna happen."

He’s pissed at getting left at the altar last year. IU big donors who threw him to the side of the road for the worst coach in IU history will get their noses rubbed in it for years from Dusty.
I doubt that. Coaches don't typically root against other coaches to get fired. IU had a coach and the hot seat rumors against him were starting. What happened to I am so happy in Florida until my dream job can happen. Dusty May made a bad decision by not waiting it out. Absolutely no foresight. This is on him missing out not IU. When woodson was hired did anyone know who Dusty May was?

I'll give you May & McCullum, but I don't get McCasland. What's the attraction there?
McCasland is probably as attractive as the the other 2. The only reason people like May is his ties to RMK. Big 12 has been as good or the best conference for some years until SEC this year. McCasland in 2 years built that team into one of the best in the league.

It's a little bit like the NBA draft. Take the real offer today, or wait another year for maybe a better offer, maybe not. If he had waited, only in retrospect do we know Woodson was out. Six months ago everyone was gushing over what a great year we were going to have with our roster.

He had a good offer from Michigan, a chance to move to a higher tier program and conference, and he took it rather than waiting for what might happen. I can't fault him for that or say he made a bad decision.

If I'm being honest...as much as I disliked his style of play, and his overall coaching acumen...when Woodson landed Ballo, Rice, Carlyle, Goode, and Tucker...and Mack, Malik, Trey, Gabe, etc... returned...I didn't think we'd be in this position right now again. I thought their floor was top 3-4 teams in the conference, a team that could make some noise in the NCAAs. And that would have been enough to probably get Woodson a small extension if he had wanted it. But certainly not have us in a position where he'd be gone.

So...I'm not sure any of this talk about what May was thinking with regards to the IU job, when he made his Michigan decision, has any validity. Reality was, IU didn't have an opening. And Woodson had one of the top incoming portal hauls in the country.

Practically...right now might be the first time May has been presented with the IU job being an option, or a real possibility.
