I didn't think high rated kids stayed in state?

Transferring in August of your senior year does raise red flags in my book. Especially when there is evidence that it is over a split between AAU coaches. Plus how he seemed to be a head case in semi state is pointing in the direction that he maybe a loose cannon.
He was referred to by one of this site's posters as a "cancer". Do you agree with that assessment?

I cannot say that there is enough evidence just yet, but you have to agree that there is mounting cause for concern if you were a college recruiter.

Damn, I'm glad social media wasn't around when I was 17 to amplify every poor immature decision I made.

C'mon, people - these are KIDS we are talking about . . . slam on the adults if you wish, but be careful how you label a kid.

And what is that "mounting cause for concern" exactly? Be specific.[/QUOTE
How often does a top 50 recruit transfer to a prep school in August of their senior season. In addition, the transfer appears to be due to an AAU dispute between coaches. He was in his third week of school at south port and then puff he was gone to a school with no physical address. You can clearly see that his number one priority is get to the pros the fastest route possible.

Should we go back and look at your comments about the IU players that got in trouble two years ago? I'm sure you said it was just KIDS being kids and made only poor immature decisions. I'm sure you didn't eviscerate our head coach at all. Right?

FACT: After winning the 2013 Big 10, Crean completely missed the tournament (with MORE than enough talent), barely got into the tournament the following year and then won a RS conference title in an extremely weak year for the Big 10.

That is not winning "consistently". FACT.

What Big 10 coach has been better the last 4 years? Depends on your standards, I guess. If winning RS conference titles is what you look at, Crean's your guy. If making deep runs in the NCAA is what you strive for, I'm taking Izzo and Beilien. FACT

Fact, after winning the national championship Kentucky lost in the first round of the NIT to power house Robert Morris. Incidentally, Kentucky has done this several times going to a Final Four or better, and not making it back to the tournament the next year.

Fact, UCONN missed the tournament after winning the national title

Fact, NC State same thing. Fact, Louisville same thing. Fact, Kansas same thing. Fact, Florida. Fact, North Carolina.

What's your point? Are they not winning "consistently"?

When you have to cherry pick results to prove a point, well . . . not more one can say.

So what exactly did IU under Crean do after winn . . . OOPS!!!! They just bombed in the Sweet 16 and missed the tournament, right?

Sure, go right ahead

You said the word "fact" several times there but stated very few actual facts.

UK has missed the tourney several times after a Final Four? Cal has missed it ONCE and gone to 4 Final Fours in 7 years. That not consistent?

Kansas? Really? You're bringing up Kansas when talking about inconsistency? When's the last time they missed the tournament?

Please tell us that post was meant to be sarcastic.

That is correct. However, the argument made was missing the NCAA tournament after winning the Big Ten. I've given you examples of top shelf teams that won the whole thing and missed the NCAA tournament the next year.

That is correct, I used facts. Try it sometime.

Let's look at what I said. "Fact, after winning the national championship Kentucky lost in the first round of the NIT to power house Robert Morris. Incidentally, Kentucky has done this several times going to a Final Four or better, and not making it back to the tournament the next year."

Are you claiming this isn't a factual statement? Please review the actual facts below

  • 2012 Kentucky won it all. Next year, missed NCAA tournament when they lost to Robert Morris.
  • 1978 Kentucky won it all. Next year, lost in the first round of the NIT.
  • 1966 Kentucky Final Four. Next year, no NCAA tournament bid.
  • 1942 Kentucky Final Four. Next year, no NCAA tournament bid

Kansas. I brought up Kansas only in the context of the complaints here that IU won the Big Ten title and missed the NCAAs the next year. Guess what, Kansas won the whole thing and missed the NCAA tournament the next year. It happens.

No sarcasm, 100% factual. You have been proven wrong. Again. Please point out to me the facts I didn't present.

As for UK, I wouldn't call 4 times "several" but so be it. You're going back to the 40s to try and prove a point? I could care less what happened in 1942 for UK basketball. The fact remains UK under Cal has been to the Final Four 4-7 seasons. Pretty darn consistent.

Bill Self has been at Kansas 13 seasons and never missed the tournament. After they won the title in 2008 they made the S16 in 2009. I don't care about what happened in the 80s anymore. Let's talk about something that happened in the last quarter century.

Won the Big 10.

Won National Championships.

Both are equal.

Got it . . . .

I don't know what you got, I never made statements that they are equal. Instead, I answered the question given and responded to the false statements uttered. Anything you got on equivalency, you made up all by yourself.

What? So you need a definition of several because your definition isn't the same as the rest of the world's?

sev·er·al
ˈsev(ə)rəl/
determiner & pronoun
determiner: several; pronoun: several
  1. 1.
more than two but not many.
    "the author of several books"
synonyms: some, a number of, a few; More

I deal in facts, not opinions that you want to make as facts. You were proven wrong. Again. You don't like it, again. So you want to change definitions now, or pretend history has a line you can't go past when it proves you wrong. My statement was correct, yours wasn't.

You said you were gonna go back and look? Where's my comments?

Maybe later today I will spend some time doing that, or maybe not. It is fun proving you guys wrong, but almost boring of late because it is so easy. When one has an agenda of hate like you and a few others do, the mistakes you make expose you constantly.

Your point is based on results from the 40s. Mine is based on the last 10 years. What more needs to be said?

I definitely think you are wrong about Tas and probably others regarding an agenda of hate. Tas shares an opinion and mostly tries to back it up with facts. Everyone is not going to have the same opinion and it's weak debate tactics (as you said in another post) to resort to personal attacks or to call someone a hater. I think you both have very sound opinions, it's just this Crean issue isn't as cut and dried as most make it out to be. Hopefully, it will be soon!

But everyone gotta have a little fun every now and then, right . . .???

I agree TAS is a good poster and I don't always agree with him but he at least does not demean other posters like others do.

I picture this forum as a bunch of guys sitting around drinking beers (or water, if you don't drink ;) )

Guys are gonna give each other hell, but that's part of it. Some people take themselves WAY too damned seriously.

I just tell it like it is. If it ruffles feathers, maybe the problem lies with the bird.

As long as people doesn't make it personal I am all for debate but I just don't like it when posters cross the line.

If I had your facts in the casino I'd retire right now . . .

You would also need Doc Brown and a Delorean:) It's amazing how great statistics are at predicting past events! I've actually done pretty well the last 3 years, but if you divide profit by hours put in to make profitable selections, I would probably do better with a newspaper route. I enjoy the challenge though.

Tas, maybe. The others, no I'm not wrong. It is clinical with them. They have a sense of entitlement, they're stuck in another century, and generally just bitter and in a bad mood that things aren't like they used to be. We encountered these types of fans all the time in my tenure. Some of it is good, because they are passionate, but as I often told employees look at where the word "fan" comes from. It is from the root word, Fanatical. That word and what it means can be positive, but quickly turn into a negative, or even unhinged when not grounded in reality. A program or coach can become the victim of their own success as unrealistic expectations start to become the norm. It is very difficult to win national titles, go to Final Fours, or even have a high quality program year in and year out. I was fortunate enough to be at three programs that were at that level, but also at another that was nowhere near it.

There's a fine line between love and hate, and fanatical people can cross over it very quickly when things aren't going the way they want it too.

I get that! Most of those synonyms have fit me perfectly on several occasions during the Crean years. I quit watching them play and wouldn't even listen to Fisch for about 3 weeks last year. I wanted him fired just for refusing to put Cody back into the game (with 4 fouls) until the game was already lost up in Madison. I bemoaned him as an idiot the day the fans booed him for letting Hartman try to check Kaminsky out of a timeout... it's actually a pretty long list.

I'm more level headed in the offseason, but I'm sure I'll have his pink slip prepared several times again quite soon... and those that know me say I lack emotion:)

I remember going over to get a scouting report from a coach in Ohio who had previously coached in Indiana (this was years ago) and he said you have to be crazy to coach in Indiana because everyone there thinks they are an expert. There is a big difference between the person who actually makes the decisions and the person who sits in the background and criticizes the decisions. Anyone who has ever held a position of authority knows it's very lonely. Especially coaching basketball in Indiana.

This is so accurate and why I made my statement about what we used to tell some of the department employees. Everyone was a critic, everyone could coach. They even got crazy with Knight at the end. So many know-it-alls. That is why I took the screen name I did, as a jest to what we dealt with all the time. That is not to say fans aren't great and the lifeblood of any program, but so many cross the line. Thankful for the fans, but in retirement do not miss the entitlement they had (regardless of the program I was with), the perceived ownership they seemed to think they had (boosters) and the all too often lack of a moral high ground and recognition that first and foremost we were a University, not some professional sports program.
