In all seriousness, never underestimate where unguided research takes you. Like, microwave ovens came from radar research. And MRIs were developed off some nerd astronomy research. They’re definitely not looking for the cure for cancer, but don’t discount that they could fall ass backwards into it.

Second, they’ve got people working on those things. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing.
