Below is a story of a Florida Sheriff battling antisemitism in his county, which has resulted in him being targeted. He is working to get a law passed making certain actions a felony. For example, a group of racists had taken a projector and projected "Hitler was right" onto Daytona Speedway. That would be a felony. As he distinguishes it, the 1st allows someone to hold a sign up on their property or on public property but not on someone else's private property.

I heard another story that when these people fly into Daytona now, he meets them at the airport and wishes them a good stay. Since he's receiving death threats, a bold move.

I heard a story with him this morning. He voted Trump in 16 and 20, but he believes that antisemitism/racism in his area really took off after the "good people on both sides" comment. So he hopes if Trump wins again, he will walk that back. But the story linked below suggests he gave up on Trump after Jan 6.

If that article is paywalled, there is this one:

“That's my message to you: go for it,” he said. “You want to try to get into my computer and plant child porn in there with a group of people that have an IQ of 12? Go for it. I challenge you to go for it. You want to put surveillance on me 24 hours [a day]? Go for it. And the best of all: you’re going to dox me and make me unelectable? Go for it. You came to the wrong county. I stand with my Jewish friends and I'm honored to be on your hit list. It's an honor to be sought after by a bunch of punk thugs like you.”

Good for him.

That's called character. And courage. God bless Mike Chitwood.

Seems that he is fighting the good fight. Keep it up. Any antisemitic folks should have a midnight visit from a black ops team.

At a time when we all often don't agree on much, I think most of us will say that this is a stand-up guy that should be supported. Hero is a word too often applied, so I won't. But his actions/words are consistent with the concept.

You mean a sheriff of a trashy area voted for Trump and is now blaming Trump for all of this, despite Trump having strong ties with Israel and a now-Jewish daughter?

This is where the narrative doesn't make sense.

No mystery here, dude.

It's absolutely a mystery, Bowl. Ivanka and Jared don't matter now? Ask Israelis who they preferred between Barack and Trump. It's not even a question.

Then you look at Jews in the adminstration aside from Kushner (Mnuchin, Miller, Cohn, Neuberger, Rosenstein, etc.). You may not be a fan of them, but it's not like he appointed a bunch of neo nazis.

It sounds like this group has gone well beyond free speech into verbal and physical crime.

Even if you're right about all of that, they aren't counters to what the sheriff actually said, which was that he thought this bad behavior really took off after a certain event.

Florida has several bad-ass Sheriffs. Good press conferences taunting and shaming criminals … and ripping silly or stupid media.

there are two reasons: 1) he believes that to be true based on his own experiences and 2) he’s regurgitating talking points.

Perhaps he is actually seeing an uptick in Daytona area, but what does that say about the movement? They are following a populist who installs Jews in positions of authority and has them in his immediate family, but somehow credit him for giving them the power to rise up?

It doesn’t make any sense. There is no logic or rationale, regardless of how stupid you think Trumpers can be.

I dunno, the Polk Co. guy is obsessed with prostitution stings. That seems like a violation of rights if he actually cared about the constitution.

When does this type of bigotry make any type of sense? The point wasn't about what Trump thinks about Jews. The point was simply that he made a particular speech, and after that speech, the sheriff noticed a marked change in behavior in his area.

I’ve always struggled with illogical claims. I can’t prove them to be wrong or inaccurate per se and I’m well aware there were some high profile incidents of anti-semitism since Trump, but it just doesn’t fit with how my brain works.

If you put yourself in their shoes, it makes logical sense why some stupid people would attack Asians out of the result of COVID. As much as I slam China, I’m find it disgraceful. But I can at least understand why someone stupid (can we agree that these people are stupid- regardless of minority they hate?) may do that.

I just don’t get how if you hate Jews and Trump clearly doesn’t, it enables or encourages groups that do.

I think you're conflating two different things. It's not the claim the sheriff is making that is illogical. It's very logical. What may be illogical is the behavior of the antisemites who found inspiration from the performance.

Although, to be fair, I'd disagree with you on that, too. I think an uptick of antisemitism was very predictable after that horrid speech.

Trump and his attitude toward Jews is much like the people who don't like black folks, except for the good ones they know (or who play for their basketball team).

  • 55% of Republicans say that fighting "woke ideology in our schools and businesses" is more important than protecting entitlement programs from cuts, per the Journal poll.
  • 27% of Republican voters say protecting Social Security and Medicare benefits from cuts is more important to them.

they also thought fighting woke was more important than women's rights and health, until it was too late.

He's given a wink and a nod to white nationalists and anti-Semites since before Charlottesville. And plenty of Jews have had it with him.

Jews tend to overreact frequently IMO and be influenced by liberal-slanted media because the largest block votes left and considers themselves Democrats.

If you talk to Israelis, they were far more bullish on Trump than other recent Presidents.

So he’s accepting having his daughter convert (meaning he still has a good relationship with Ivanka) and appoint a Jew to run the Treasury Dept, but he would allow them to do other important things?

I've heard that Israel fits into the antisemitic belief as religiously there needs to be Jews in a thriving Israel to either summon the four horseman or start the rapture or something biblical.

I'm sure someone who knows the bible way more than I do (which isn't much) could explain better.

But.... according to the Bible there needs to be Jews in Israel so a person can be antisemitic as f but also believe in a thriving Israel. There's probably a belief that Israel is where the Jews are supposed to be, not here (meaning wherever the antisemite is) similar to 'the blacks belong in Africa' that the racist believes in.

As for Trump, I think his value system is first what serves Trump, so if there is anyone of a group (a black, a jew, a redneck, a military nut, a religious nut, etc) that the racist, or antisemite or whatnot would never want to do a transaction with.....that doesn't really effect Trump (and I think that's one of his few decent characteristics).

Trump has a way to justify everything he does as a win to himself.

Obviously if there is nothing to be gained, I believe then Trump uses stereotypes to blanket groups of people....which is almost the definition of racist.

And Kushner in his memoirs said Trump pushed Ivanka hard to date and marry Tom Brady, even after they were married. Still Kushner is obviously extremely wealthy and maybe Ivanka legitimately wanted to be with him. What can a father do in this day and age?

But as said before, I believe the analogy of the person that doesn't like blacks and black culture but loves black IU players is likely to fit Trump when it comes to individuals vs groups.

So yes, his rhetoric as a leader can give rise to antisemitic beliefs while he himself not be a 100% antisemitic person.
