During the Maryland game at the United Center, Hummel mentioned IU’s lack of a BTT title being remarkable considering that for the entire history of the tournament IU gets a home crowd type atmosphere.
During Friday’s game, the massive (and boisterous) IU contingent was a factor. In the BTT last year, IU probably gets absolutely smoked by UM if that game is played in Detroit instead of indy (“AH north”).
25 years of games in chicago and indy and it’s a huge head shaker that we haven’t won several of these things.
The fan support is there for NCAA games too. That was a big reason that we made the tournament last year after winning the play in game in Dayton. Dayton was basically a home game.
So, good job IU fans.
It does also feel like the fan enthusiasm and energy level is spiked this year. I’m sure ticket demand is much higher. When the camera was panning to the UC crowd on Friday, those were fans acting as if this is the best chance in decades to do something special.
PSU was a bummer, should be interesting to see where we play next week. I expect IU fans to be out in force.
