Duke is investigating if Nike paid Zion’s mother

Maybe go look at Duke and the type of players they missed on before a certain coach came back. That coach was fired for paying players. You do the research. While your at it. Look at how many top recruits UK has gotten in ten years. Then add in at least ten family, friends, coaches per kid. Lets say ten per kid. And nothing. Thats a lot of people to keep quiet. Hell Crean met a kid just hours after contact rule. It was on every web site before the next day. UK is as clwan as they come. They gave to be. Our own in state journalists would love to make a career off bringing down down Cal n UK. Cracks me up. All these fans bases that said Cal and UK would get caught chwating. Ten years later. UL, IU and others are suffering. Cal n UK doing ok. Zion was set to go to the biggest Nike school in the country. All of a sudden Duke hits the lottery. Hmmm did uk get out bid. Or was it UK was not playing that game but Duke was. And yes. Duke has needed to cheat to get releavant again.
Where were the journalists when Kenny Walker was taken by a helicopter to eat dinner in Danville? Where were they wen Richard Madison showed up in the Fizz nightclub as a 19 year old kid and had food and drinks bought by older men in suits? Where were the journalists when students and people living in the area were openly sharing numerous accounts of cheating including jobs at car dealerships and other places that the players never showed up for?

It is a different incestuous group of people in the Lexington/Central Kentucky media, but they have the same goals. Keep burying stories that might jeopardize their access to the program and advertising dollars.

Because you’re naive enough to believe we’re “better” or “above” other schools who are successful. It’s BS in reality.
No.

Langford’s dad ran an AAU team - which Nike legally could give money to. Whether it was ethical or not might be questionable, but that’s an entirely separate conversation (btw - that occurred BEFORE Archie was hired at IU).

Zion’s mom (according to reports) ran a bogus consulting service - which Nike could not legally pay money to.

That you cannot discern the difference between the two is not surprising.

Whats interesting is Zion was a lock to UK with Clemson a second. All of a sudden his JR year Duke gets some love. The night he picked Duke. People were shocked. Its said in Zions JR year is when Nike paid his mom. Im not saying UK cant and hasnt looked into doing what it takes to land a kid. I just dont think they can. Way to many haters waiting to catch UK and Cal. Still getting good solid players. Just not the Aytons, Willamsons and Barretts. Funny how these guys all associated with Nike and getting paid. UK would never get out bid. Plus one of Nikes biggest schools. Just think Cal and UK know. Every journalist and the entire Ncaa compliance section. Watch and wait to pounce. Im from Memphis. I have a few personal stories of Cal and his doing what they had to do to stay competitive. I know what he is capable of. Just think since at UK. First. Just dosent have to cheat to get good players. Second. Just cant. In this day and time. With social media and greed at a all time high. Add in being the most watched school and coach in the country. No way he lasts ten years had he played in those dark areas.would of came out.

Yet another post from a delusional UK fan.
Sun rises in the East...

Then, yes.

Here is what I said originally:

Zion’s mom (according to reports) ran a bogus consulting service - which Nike could not legally pay money to.

Note I did say “according to reports”. Nothing has been proven - yet. But if Nike can send a team of company reps to Durham when Zion’s shoe blew out, they sure as hell know if they did/did not pay Zion’s mom for “consulting”.

To date Nike has not denied it. And, yes, such payments are violation of NCAA eligibility relating to amateurism.

Have they been proven to have committed a NCAA violation or not? That’s all that matters. The rest is...like I said earlier...speculation.

The OP had a link to the article.

You tried to liken it to Tim Langford.

It was pointed out to you that there is a distinct difference between paying money for an AAU team and what was discussed in the article involving Zion’s mom.

No one said that payment had been made. What myself and others have tried to enlighten you on is the difference between payments to a parent running an AAU team and payments to a bogus counseling service. Any such payments WOULD be a violation of NCAA eligibility requirements.

Again, not surprising you fail to discern the difference between the two.

She could fill out some questionnaires about "Nike Branding for Mom's of star athletes" and get paid for doing that.

Zion does not care now. He has played his last game at Duke regardless of the outcome of this investigation. I doubt if the NCAA is going after Duke with any vigor. They are not a mid major that they can make a public example of, and flex their legal muscles and squash them. Or any school naive enough to self report and also penalize itself.

It did but there is nothing I can do about it. So I dont even get mad anymore. One lesson is never self report period.

We will be the first program in NCAA history to death penalty ourselves...a "suicide" if you will. Will be because a booster paid for a recruit to eat that 4lb challenge burger at Bubs.
