"Donald Trump saved the Republican party."

btw what do Catholics think now of Trump that he has appointed Carlista Gingrich to be next ambassador to the Vatican? The woman who cheated with Newt when he was still married to wife number 16?

Trump is certainly saving the Republican Party for something? Purgatory?

Something like "no one is perfect", "everyone makes mistakes", "both sides do it", or something about casting the first stone. There are infinite ways to rationalize.

He could probably get an annulment for all 16 of those marriages. Therefore they wouldn't exist right?

Well, the evangelical vote going to Trump with his three marriages and sexual harassment against him already had them giving up any moral ground.

I imagine most devout Catholics will be torn. On the one hand, the Church recognizes the Gingriches' marriage, so barring some other reason, they are both still Catholics in good standing. On the other hand, annulment or no, it was still born out of adultery, which won't sit well with a lot of them.

In my opinion Donald Trump is a product of the decline in the importance of the party establishment. This is true to at least some degree both in the Democrat and Republican parties.

Consequently, it is more accurate to say Trump took advantage of something which was already occurring rather than starting a trend.
