The Frankfurt headquarters of Deutsche Bank have been raided by prosecutors in a money laundering investigation. Germany's public prosecutor alleged that two staff members have helped clients launder money from criminal activities.
The investigation was sparked by revelations in the 2016 "Panama Papers" - an enormous amount of information leaked from one of the world's most secretive companies, a Panamanian law firm called Mossack Fonseca.
In 2017, Deutsche Bank was fined $630m (£504m) by US and UK regulators in connection with a Russian money laundering plan.
Under the scheme, clients illegally moved $10bn out of Russia via shares bought and sold through the bank's Moscow, London and New York offices.

And coincidentally,
Trump's long and winding history with Deutsche Bank could now be at the center of Robert Mueller's investigation

  • President Donald Trump's ties to Deutsche Bank are under the microscope.
  • Special counsel Robert Mueller is reportedly seeking information on Trump's and his family's Deutsche Bank accounts.
  • Trump holds roughly $300 million in debt to the bank.
President Donald Trump's longtime relationship with Deutsche Bank is receiving renewed attention after reports that US investigators asked the bank for information on accounts held by the president, his family, and associates.
Trump's relationship with the massive German bank dates back roughly 20 years and has taken many twists and turns. Now, that relationship could find itself at the center of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

I think you’re looking too far into this. You aren’t considering context and nuance.

DB is the worst of the bulge brackets. I, for one, would enjoy seeing it sink.

It reads that they focus on property tax assessments & appeals. It doesn't make sense that they would do Trump's income taxes.

Ed Burke? A Democrat?

Somebody get the smelling salts . . . CO is going to have the vapors.

:)

I'm just kidding, CO . . . that this guy has the same name as your favorite conservative philosopher is just too good of a detail to overlook.

Were they doing Trump's income taxes? Or were they working on property tax issues for the Trump Organization? Given the extent of Trump's real estate, including in the Chicago area, it would make sense for them to be on retainer . . .

. . . of course there always is the possibility that Trump used the firm for property tax representation, and to gain the leverage that a powerful city alderman might be able to provide.

So I'm wondering whether the raid was related to Burke independently of Trump, or to Burke's representation of the Trump Organization.

More popcorn, please . . . .
