DeSantis stock goes up

You've lost it. You have no idea Biden's policies are what causes these disasters. That's how ignorant you are about the entire situation.
I feel really good when you call me ignorant, because I know I’m right on target. When a Trumper tells someone else they’ve lost it… well the irony is indeed thick.

The co-equal point of this thread is the dishonesty imbedded in the heart of elite white Democrats. DeSantis easily exposed the unwillingness of Martha’s Vinyard residents to even pretend to live up to their own arrogant smugness.
The twisting into a pretzel you do to make a point. Governor does an absolutely despicable thing. Anyone with an ounce of character admits this. The place where they are sent welcomes them, feeds them, supports them, and finds them shelter. And you think this reflects dishonesty by Democrats. Get a massage tomorrow to get that pretzel undone. My word.

How many should be detained?

Where are they not treated well? People don't agree with the way they got here but they all get treated well when they do. The main point being that for all the hand wringing going on from some of you about how it was a horrible human rights violation to move them to MV is a bunch of damn nonsense. Those folks are pleased as punch to be in MV. And you know why? Because places like El Paso are so overrun with immigrants at the moment, they are getting released to the streets there and are sleeping in tents.

DeSantis and Abbott are making a point about resources and they are doing that knowing that no matter where these people go, they are going to get taken care of by someone.
I’m not sure many if the kids that were forcibly separated from their parents thought they were treated well.

The welcoming residents of Martha’s Vineyard kicked all of them off the island.

No, they are not used as pawns. The pawns are the poor slobs who legally live along our border whose quality of life Biden and Mayorkas have destroyed. Those people are the real sacrificial pawns. They are rebelling by voting Republican.

The illegals are treated quite well and get a free ride to anywhere in the US. Martha’s Vineyard conspicuously advertised that “All are Welcome Here” and DeSantis took them up on it. Turns out that Martha’s Vineyard residents are liars and their advertising is a fraud. Good for DeSantis for exposing that.
Whose quality of life? Where? In Florida? Texas? Do you have some links or something to show this destroyed quality of life?

I have a lot of friends in Texas. I'd say about 50% are die-hard Republicans. None have said anything to me about their quality of life being destroyed there. In fact, most are bragging about how great it is and chiding me that I never should have left.

And Florida can't even fill a plane with troublesome migrants.

*Phone rings*

A: This is Governor Abbott.

D: Greg, it's Ron. How you doing?

A: Fine, you?

D: Great. But I have a problem. I really want to get on this TV action you've been getting, but Immigration isn't releasing enough migrants in my state for me to round up and ship somewhere. Can I borrow some of yours?

A: You gonna pay for it?

D: Well, the Florida taxpayer is!

*Laughter on both ends*

A: Alright, sure. Send some guys over to arrange it. I'll give them contact info for the best bus companies.

D: Actually, I had something else in mind...

Wow! I’m impressed. Did they do those things while taking a break from polishing the chrome on their yacht?
Wow you seem jealous of people with money. I thought you guys were all about capitalism ?

For the intelligent that might be thinking, "gee, maybe there's something to this kidnapping allegation," there are many reasons that allegation is far-fetched, but here is Florida's statute (shocker--it's not the same as Indiana's because no, not all state criminal statutes are alike):

The 2022 Florida Statutes

Chapter 787
KIDNAPPING; CUSTODY OFFENSES; HUMAN TRAFFICKING; AND RELATED OFFENSES

787.01 Kidnapping; kidnapping of child under age 13, aggravating circumstances.—
(1)(a) The term “kidnapping” means forcibly, secretly, or by threat confining, abducting, or imprisoning another person against her or his will and without lawful authority, with intent to:
1. Hold for ransom or reward or as a shield or hostage.
2. Commit or facilitate commission of any felony.
3. Inflict bodily harm upon or to terrorize the victim or another person.
4. Interfere with the performance of any governmental or political function.

And here is Massachusetts:

Section 26: Kidnapping; weapons; child under age 16; punishment

Section 26. Whoever, without lawful authority, forcibly or secretly confines or imprisons another person within this commonwealth against his will, or forcibly carries or sends such person out of this commonwealth, or forcibly seizes and confines or inveigles or kidnaps another person, with intent either to cause him to be secretly confined or imprisoned in this commonwealth against his will, or to cause him to be sent out of this commonwealth against his will or in any way held to service against his will, shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison for not more than ten years or by a fine of not more than one thousand dollars and imprisonment in jail for not more than two years.

The Florida statute is irrelevant. If they were kidnapped, they were kidnapped in Texas. Since they were transported across state lines, federal criminal law might also apply.

Texas law:

Sec. 20.03. KIDNAPPING. (a) A person commits an offense if he intentionally or knowingly abducts another person.
(b) It is an affirmative defense to prosecution under this section that:
(1) the abduction was not coupled with intent to use or to threaten to use deadly force;
(2) the actor was a relative of the person abducted; and
(3) the actor's sole intent was to assume lawful control of the victim.
(c) An offense under this section is a felony of the third degree.

Sec. 20.01. DEFINITIONS. In this chapter:

(1) "Restrain" means to restrict a person's movements without consent, so as to interfere substantially with the person's liberty, by moving the person from one place to another or by confining the person. Restraint is "without consent" if it is accomplished by:
(A) force, intimidation, or deception; or
(B) any means, including acquiescence of the victim, if:
(i) the victim is a child who is less than 14 years of age or an incompetent person and the parent, guardian, or person or institution acting in loco parentis has not acquiesced in the movement or confinement; or
(ii) the victim is a child who is 14 years of age or older and younger than 17 years of age, the victim is taken outside of the state and outside a 120-mile radius from the victim's residence, and the parent, guardian, or person or institution acting in loco parentis has not acquiesced in the movement.

(2) "Abduct" means to restrain a person with intent to prevent his liberation by:
(A) secreting or holding him in a place where he is not likely to be found; or
(B) using or threatening to use deadly force.

So now it's cause celebre for 'conservatives' to rag on the wealthy?
When the wealthy loudly brag that “All are Welcome Here” and further make a big deal out of their 2017 anti-Trump sanctuary policy and then kick a few brown people off their island and out of their midst, you are damned right I’m gonna rag on them. Just who in the hell do they intend to welcome with their fancy wokeness if it’s not these immigrants? They make me sick not only because they kicked out the immigrants, but because they made a big deal out of their virtue which virtue turns out to be a fraud.

Hell I didn’t even see any pro- immigrant protesters urging that these immigrants deserved jobs and should remain on the island.
