DeSantis stock goes up

Are you really this stupid? I mean seriously this stupid? You said you can get into Canada just by having a passport , basically inferring a dui had no bearing. There may be ways to gain admittance but it takes more than a passport to do it . You proved my point. You keep proving my point!

Well, I admit and will apologize for being overconfident. However, it doesn't seem like a very arduous task to get a temporary permit.

It seems that you have some how, gotten a hold of the daily Dem marching orders. Just keep repeating stupid, and no matter how stupid, it will eventually stick with the illiterate dems.
Saddly, they are stupid enough that it has been working. SADLY.
No, just calling out a kidnapper and awful human being when I see one. I will bet that DeSantis would have a problem with his Italian immigrant ancestors being treated this way.

These people had already gone through that process, and were assigned interviews for this coming week. But they were assigned interviews in places like Seattle, LA etc ,and then deliberately sent to MV, so that they would miss their interview and their application for asylum would be summarily dismissed.

And even though DeSantis paid for this little venture (with FL taxpayer funds), the Venezuelans who were sent to MV were all in Texas, and that's where they were conned into agreeing to the trip to Boston, NY and told they would find jobs waiting for them. So obviously, they wanted to WORK, since that's the enticement that was used to get them to get on the plane in the first place. Again, these were Venezuelans, not Central Americans from Honduras, El Salvador etc...

I said nothing of DeSantis. I only answered a question. Not sure why you felt the need to respond as you did.

But it is nice to see are replying to me. I thought maybe you had blocked me since you had not answered any of questions or replies to you.

You don't think the entire thing was a little odd? Flying migrants from Texas to Florida, telling them they were going to Boston where they would probably get work permits, and then flying them to Martha's Vinyard? Also spending $12 million in Florida taxpayers' dollars to do it?

It's extremely strange. And the governor of MA is a Republican, by the way.

It is a dumb, reckless political stunt, and he used other human beings to perpetuate it. The only thing that mattered to DeSantis was "sticking it to the Dems." He literally didn't care if he was criminally liable or put his law/political career in jeopardy.

But you can't just show up with a passport and no paperwork. I know what was said in the Basketball thread. I have no personal experiences with getting in to Canada but if you want to go back and look in this thread UncleMark and Zeke relate stories. Canada doesn't mess around which was the basis of my post to start with. I have a friend that does cross and he says you can get grilled about stuff. You may make it through once with a problem but not the next. My point was also they don't just kick you back into the US in a minute and let you go. I was using the DUI as an example vs what comes through the southern border. I bet the temporary pass isn't all that easy and depending on the border guard you are going to get a long discussion on entry. You were wrong at least you owned up to it .

It seems that you have already been challenged to a bet, that you won't take.... It's obvious that you are on the DNC daily notes plan. Oh, and set down to pee. (Just a note, don't spray those ankles.)

He's a horrible human being. He just happens to be slightly smarter than Trump. That's the only difference.

Republicans love to claim they're the party of family values. The party of Jesus and Christianity. Pro life.

Matthew:

31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me,

37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’

44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’

45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

Well, I guess it's because I've never committed a (real) crime in my life. But you were right, although I really don't think if you had a DUI 20 years ago it would be difficult to get the proper forms. Try getting a visa to Brazil with no criminal record.

Stoll, you bring up a good question.

A question dealt with in the book Lessons From Venezuela. The book is predicated on the notion America, especially liberal Democrats, want to take us down the road to socialism.

My question is whether this a strong possibility or just a notion suggested by Republicans as a political strategy. This fear is hardly new as I was in complete agreement that it was a strong possibility after reading the 1949 John T. Flynn book (The Road Ahead: America's Creeping Revolution). It was about FDR and the New Deal starting America on the path to socialism

My thinking has changed since 1949.

Today, I feel America is the most capitalist country in the world and will remain this way. Granted our capitalism is regulated by government in our mixed economy to protect the interests of consumers and workers. Nevertheless, IMO, capitalism is about ownership. I just don't see government taking over the ownership of property now in the hands of the private sector.

Book sounds interesting. Tried to get on my iPhone book app but it wasn’t available.

"Yeah...you got it right, hoos" would have been a lot quicker and more effective. ;)

Duly noted that you aren't able to make the case for why this was anything more than a shallow political stunt devoid of sound public policy considerations made at the expense of people struggling.
Why does it matter where they struggle? If I pull over to pick up a hitchhiker & ask “where you headed?” If their response is “anywhere but here”, why is it an act of cruelty to drop them off in MV or anywhere else claiming to be sympathetic to their cause? You obviously only care who did it….
The primary problem with this stunt has to be that it's simply morally reprehensible. By all accounts, none of these people wanted to be in Martha's Vineyard. They didn't know they were going to Martha's Vineyard. It's not clear how they were convinced to get on that plane, but it's likely it was through some form of dishonesty. It causes legal problems for many of them, who already have ICE hearings scheduled in places as far away as Los Angeles.

Using this as a way to make a case for liberal hypocrisy because of "sanctuary cities" is ridiculous on its face. Besides the fact that none of the towns on Martha's Vineyard are actually sanctuary cities, even if they were (or even if some of their leaders have endorsed sanctuary-style policies), it makes no sense whatsoever to claim that sanctuary status should require a community to be ready at all times to take in whatever homeless asylum seekers might be dropped at their doorstep at any time by some attention-seeking governor in another state. That only shifts the blame from where it belongs: with that governor. It very much looks in this thread as if the people cheering this act are unable to think of immigration in anything other than a binary of two extremes, and seem to think that liberals who support a less strict enforcement of one aspect of immigration law must also support open borders in all ways. That's obviously stupid.

Someone above actually suggested that, to not be hypocrites, the residents of Martha's Vineyard should be giving these asylum seekers the two things they want: homes and jobs. Whose homes and jobs? Should they repossess homes and hand them out? Will the homeowners be compensated? How do we pick who gets fired? Just select employers at random, and tell them they have to fire one of their employees and replace them with one of the immigrants? What if the person selected for dismissal does a job that none of the immigrants are qualified for?

There is no justification for this act on any sort of policy grounds. Some folks here are coming around to admitting that, and justifying it, anyway, because it forces people to pay attention to the problem. Sorry, I can't get behind using human beings in this way, no matter how much you think the other side needs to just listen to you, already.

In real life, this was a partisan stunt. DeSantis saw the attention Abbott was getting, and decided he'd take Abbott's game, and raise it to the most absurd level possible. He didn't do this to get the attention of liberal policymakers. He did this to get the attention of Trump voters. He disrupted the lives of people at their most vulnerable, solely for the purpose of sending smoke signals to Trumpers that he's one of them, he's on their side.

If you support or justify what he did, all that means is that you fell for it. You were the sucker he was aiming for.
Clueless…derp.

This thread is silly. Few facts. A statute that doesn’t apply. The right statute, smuggling or whatever, not cited, and who knows what other legal shit. Immunity for one.
And Biden has been secretly flying them all over the country in the middle of the night and then lying about it.

I doubt you answer…just like the moderator
I think they should.

You care to try answering the question I've been asking since the beginning of this thread? What's the sound public policy behind sending these migrants to MV?

And Biden has been secretly flying them all over the country in the middle of the night and then lying about it.
I wouldn’t be surprised. Both sides are full of it. My heart goes out to these people, particularly those with kids. Mine act like they can’t survive a line at target. I can’t imagine all this travel in awful conditions with little ones.

It wasn't a well thought out plan, at least in terms of execution. DeSantis undoubtedly thought that he would be shipping a bunch of Central American migrants (who often identify more with the left) off to a Blue state (with a GOP Governor), but wound up shipping off pro-GOP Venezuelans and igniting a firestorm in So Florida.

It's going to be interesting to see how Rubio responds to this, because of the 100,000 or so Venezuelans in FL many of them have responded to the anti-Communist appeals of the GOP and basically have voted GOP. But both Venezuelans and Cubans are upset over this, and Rubio is in a dogfight with Val Demmings who has seriously outraised him. This will be a delicate situation for Rubio to negotiate his way through...

Martha’s Vineyard smug fraudulent hypocrisy runs deep.

Martha's Vineyard is an island, and several towns make up what is collectively known as Martha's Vineyard. According to the 2020 census, it is an area where diversity is outpacing many other areas...

"Beyond mere population statistics, the census data also showed that the Island, like the country, is becoming more diverse. The Island’s black population jumped 67 per cent, from 477 people in 2010 to 798 people in 2020, outpacing white population growth threefold.

Latino and American Indian population increases also outpaced white population growth, albeit by slightly smaller amounts.

But the Island demographic that saw the largest population increase was the multi-racial category — described by officials involved with the census as an imperfect catch-all that likely includes a portion of the Island’s Brazilian population that does not identify as white.

Multi-racial populations skyrocketed in every town except Aquinnah, growing by nearly 400 per cent, from 494 multi-racial residents in 2010 to 1,914 in 2020. Non-white residents made up 14 per cent of the Island in 2010. They now make up 22 per cent, driving overall population growth on the Vineyard."

Boy, it sure is funny to use people fleeing one of the worst dictatorships in the world as a prank. And, of course DeSantis is a hardcore Christian.

What a pathetic place the Republican Party has arrived. Zero policies, so this is the kind of garbage they’re left with.

Losers.
Why is sending them to one of the nicest communities is the US a prank? How many are you housing? Will you give up your Porsche to help them?

And Biden has been secretly flying them all over the country in the middle of the night and then lying about it.

"Republicans accuse the Biden administration of organizing secret flights, carrying migrants from the border to communities across the country, that critics have branded "ghost flights."

But that rhetoric is often at odds with the facts.

"It's not secret, and it's not new," said Jennifer Nagda, policy director with the Young Center for Immigrant Children's Rights, a non-profit that works closely with unaccompanied children.

When children and teenagers from Central America cross the border alone, the federal government is required by law to care for them until they're reunited with a sponsor, often a parent or relative, or placed in a network of special shelters around the U.S.

To do that, federal officials sometimes fly those children on charter planes from the border to other parts of the country. For years, this was widely seen as normal, even routine.

Until it wasn't.

With border arrests at the highest levels on record, Republicans see immigration as a potent line of attack in midterm elections this fall. And some are seeking to weaponize basic operations of the immigration system that had rarely attracted attention before — including flights carrying unaccompanied children around the country."

Of course we know you prefer the word of Caturd, over NPR. I'm just posting the facts so the sane people can read for themselves...

Try not to fall over patting yourself on the back like that.

This thread was originally about what DeSantis did, not what any of us did. Starting with OP, too many of you celebrated what DeSantis did, and that's pretty disgusting. Whatever you claim to have done in real life doesn't mean much to us here. We don't know you. We don't know if any of that's true. But we know you came here and cheered on DeSantis, and that's despicable.

I want to make sure I have this straight. A lot of posters imply that rich people on MV should be housing these asylum seekers in their personal residences. Do you believe that asylum seekers in Texas get to show up in a fancy Dallas suburb and just live in someone’s McMansion? Do you also believe that they get to drive that person’s $75,000 white Ford 250?

Or is this entire thread as unserious as DeSantis’s political stunt?
No dummy, the implication is that the people supporting this policy should carry the responsibility. Seems simple.

What I don"t understand are those who claim to believe in rules of law are refusing to accept our immigration laws need to be reformed.

Given this, our politicians on the left and right use immigration to support their own agendas.

Thus we have a nation of men and not of laws.

Just like the DACA kids were used as pawns by the Democrats to get more voters here. Their parents were convinced to make a dangerous and illegal trek into the U.S. because they are seen as eventual voters. They were meant to come and turn Texas, Florida, and Arizona blue. The human trafficking, rapes, drugs, deaths in the desert, etc. are all just unfortunate sidebars to The Plan.
DACA kids? Where in the world did that come from? Where did this big plan come from? Besides inside your head or the mouths of Tucker Carlson wanna bes.

Because they are being treated well?
Where are they not treated well? People don't agree with the way they got here but they all get treated well when they do. The main point being that for all the hand wringing going on from some of you about how it was a horrible human rights violation to move them to MV is a bunch of damn nonsense. Those folks are pleased as punch to be in MV. And you know why? Because places like El Paso are so overrun with immigrants at the moment, they are getting released to the streets there and are sleeping in tents.

DeSantis and Abbott are making a point about resources and they are doing that knowing that no matter where these people go, they are going to get taken care of by someone.
