Of all the legal actions taken against Trump, this one was pretty easily the most defensible one. Trump’s strategy was just to find ways to delay it until after the election…on the chance that he’d win and put the DOJ into an intractable position.

And this strategy was successful. But only a total tankie would take that to mean Trump was unfairly charged.

But I am saying that everything in the Trump orbit eventually ends up a victim to his erratic and reckless control. And he doesn’t have the capacity to delegate things to competent people who ignore this control.

The first term, whatever its merits, ended very badly and I would be surprised if this one is any different.

Do I agree with those who say our democracy will come to an end? No. We’re way stronger than that. We survived him once, we’ll survive him again.

Democrats are going to be united in opposition to pretty much anything he wants to do - just because it’s him (I’m not defending that BTW) and, despite the minor sweep they just won, Republicans are still pretty divided…and can’t spare but a couple of defections in the House.

I didn’t get the divided government I was hoping to get. But I suspect it won’t be far from it.

That said, I’d be very happy if Republicans are at least united enough to pass through some of the things Musk and Ramaswamy are going to put together. But I’d be surprised if that happens.
