Did this just randomly pop into Trump’s head? Unless there is something I’m not getting, this may be the most bizarre thing he has done. And that’s saying a lot.

What’s sad is many of his supporters believe it’s a legitimately good idea because orange thumb said it.

Btw, remember that Epstein thing covered up by the Trump admin? And those mass shootings? That’s why we’re talking about Greenland now.

He is preparing a place for him when he gets impeached. In Greenland, he can play the king that he has been wanting to be, build ice hotels with the zillions of money he has been bragging about all these years. It will be a great place for him to retire to.

Obama is visiting Denmark in late September. If Trump has any semi-competent handlers left, they probably orchestrated this entire Greenland nonsense so Trump would have an excuse to postpone, and not find himself as Obama's opening act.

Greenland used to be a white glacier. When Trump used to build skyscrapers he worked with white glaziers. Trump always steps on those who work for him. Thus he wants to set foot on Greenland. The less you think about it, the more sense it makes. If you manage to think zero about it, you'll achieve bliss.

Next question?

Denmark Offers to Buy U.S.

“As we have stated, Greenland is not for sale", a spokesperson for the Danish government said on Friday. “We have noted, however, that during the Trump regime pretty much everything in the United States, including its government, has most definitely been for sale. Denmark would be interested in purchasing the United States in its entirety, with the exception of its government".

A key provision of the purchase offer, the spokesperson said, would be the relocation of Donald Trump to another country “to be determined,” with Russia and North Korea cited as possible destinations.

If Denmark’s bid for the United States is accepted, the Scandinavian nation has ambitious plans for its new acquisition. "We believe that by giving the U.S. an educational system and national health care it could be transformed from a vast landmass into a great nation,” the spokesperson said.

Mexico to pay for it?

great post.

sorry i could only "like" it once.

My Trumpian guess. Global warming is effecting that area the worst, so obviously he wants to destroy the scientific data.

This just in. After Trump's cancellation of his trip to Denmark for their refusal to sell Greenland;147 countries, the UN, and 21 states announce they refuse to sell Greenland to the US. Though the US did receive an offer for France in what appears to be Angela Merkel's handwriting.

Simple: Trump likes to buy things because it makes him feel important. If Donald would have followed the Fred Trump playbook he might actually be worth 10 billion dollars, instead he bought casinos, air lines, football teams, a university, etc. because he thought it made him look important and probably is not worth anywhere close to what he claims.

Greenland is physically very “big” and other than the possibility of future global warming it is pretty useless but again in Trump world it is important since it is the world’s largest island and he would be remembered like “Seward’s folly”.

The previous worst President in American history, Andrew Johnson, acquired Alaska.

Yes please.

I have been staying away from the forum for a bit because this place is a circle jerk of stupidity. This thread is no different.

I would suggest you and your dismissive, short sighted friends in this thread do a little research into how important the arctic circle is becoming to our adversaries (namely China and Russia), the strategic importance of Greenland to the defense of the North American continent, and the massive amount of rare earth metals and natural resources that are important to our economy that sit under the "useless" island (some of which our main economic and strategic competitor sits on and has been gobbling up over the past few decades).

I do not agree with the hissy fit that Trump is throwing w.r.t. not traveling to Denmark, but buying Greenland and having strategic control of it is far from a stupid idea.

No, it’s a really dumb idea.

Other than the fact that buying and selling large tracts of "conquered" territory just isn't done anymore, and that we already have a strategic presence there due to our NATO alliance. Otherwise, it's brilliant.

Probably posted from your cell phone that requires Chinese controlled metals to produce. The same type of metals that China has bought control of in Africa. The same type of metals that they have sought to buy control of in Greenland (along with military bases). It is an out of the box idea to purchase the island that got floated but it is far from stupid to realize how important Greenland already is to U.S. national defense (early detection of Chinese and Russian missiles flying over the north pole) and how much more important it could become as an increasingly hostile China seeks to assert more dominance in the world.

I don't like the execution of the idea, but the underlying thought makes sense.

I know most of you have been entertained by Russia Collusion by the media and now are eating a dessert of Racism 24/7 since the Russia meal was not filling, but try looking at some other shit outside of Orange Man Bad for a change.

On the scale of Trump ideas it's not god-awful.

What will be next? Buying the North Pole? However, the North Pole does not have landmass. The South Pole would suit him better; imagine the number of casinos he can build there!

Buying Greenland makes strategic sense, and if made a state adds blue voters. But the way it has unfolded sucks.

Yikes, it's a distraction like nearly everything he says because he was involved in the Epstein stuff and quietly rolled back gun background checks.

Next week in Trump World, "I'm thinking about buying the Moon but their leader won't reply to my tweets. Their loss..."

Unlax, guys! One positive thing about the Trump presidency is that he has provided us with a lot of laughs. As they say, "Laughter is the best medicine!" ;)

I understand it could potentially makes sense to obtain Greenland and/or have the right to use it under some sort of lease agreement but Trump's approach is always to make it about him. If he was really serious about purchasing it he would not have announced it before speaking with representatives from Denmark or Greenland. You even seem to understand his approach was not good and he has squirreled whatever deal that could have been had before it ever really began.

No shirt. The price just tripled...

Negotiation Fail 101.

Trump's a blithering... (sigh)

The manner in which he is approaching this is beyond dumb.

The problem is the rest of the world looks at him the same way. Everyone want him to fail (witness Denmark's snarky replies). That tends to get things off on the wrong foot.

I get that some president who wasn't a petulant imbecile might think it was a good idea to buy Greenland, but Trump is a petulant imbecile. That's among the reasons why this was a stupid idea, and it's absolutely the reason why Trump stupidly turned his stupid idea into a stupid diplomatic rupture with a NATO ally. Because they laughed at him before they knew he was serious. Like his supporters, he's a great big baby.

From the Danes' perspective, Trump is like the boss's horny Great Dane at the annual company barbecue. You just have to hope you're wearing long pants when he gets a shine on you.

I can't get over how ridiculous this is:

It started as a headline seemingly straight out of The Onion. Then it launched a torrent of jokes on late-night television and social media. And finally it exploded into a serious diplomatic rupture between the United States and one of its longtime allies.

In the latest only-in-Trumpland episode skating precariously along the line between farce and tragedy, the president of the United States on Wednesday attacked the prime minister of Denmark because she will not sell him Greenland — and found the very notion “absurd.”

Never mind that much of the rest of the world thought it sounded absurd as well. Amid a global laughing fit, Mr. Trump got his back up and lashed out, as he is wont to do, and called the prime minister “nasty,” one of his favorite insults, particularly employed against women who offend him, like Hillary Clinton and Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex.

All of which might be written off as just another odd moment in a presidency unlike any other. Except that attacking Denmark was not enough for the president. He decided to expand his target list to include NATO because, as he pointed out, Denmark is a member of the Atlantic alliance. And he chose to do this just two days before leaving Washington to travel to an international summit in France, which also happens to be a NATO member.

Mockery, of course, is not the reaction most presidents seek to inspire in foreign counterparts heading into important meetings. Most of the other leaders of the Group of 7 powers will no doubt save their eye-rolling for when he is not looking, but they have come to see mercurial behavior as the new norm by the president.
He's setting out on an international summit. So he thought he'd just make a global ass of himself first. Because he can't not do that. This is our feeble-minded president.

Trump insults G7 leaders in advance because it forces them to supplicate to Donald the Great. I don't meant that sarcastically. That's actually how his mind operates. In addition to other things, he's the ultimate American Exceptionalist.

While Europeans deeply respect the foundation of the US, they are profoundly insulted by the arrogance of American Exceptionalism and rightly so. The US is founded on principles antipathetic to the notion of American Exceptionalism. Our nation is great by principles and deeds not by braggadocio.
