Caitlin Clark Snubbed

Aja Wilson is the leading scorer. Sue Bird, Ionescu , Diane Tauresi. The goal is to win. You can’t take all the rookies and leave off the better players. Clark CAN light it up but she’s been very streaky and is not ready physically yet.
I am fine with Olympic team. But the younger players are building the brand. The older ones barely moved the needle with people. Many of those older stars including retired ones are better than Clark and Reese. But they still didn’t move the needle like Clark. Tauresi, Bird and others were white. I don’t think this excitement with Clark is about race.

I think it’s about race and logo 3s. If she scored all of her points the conventional way (regular 3s) I don’t think she’d be a phenomenon. And if she were black I don’t think you’d see thousands and thousands of little white girls standing in line, wearing her jersey and idolizing her. It would all be isolated to the basketball community, not the public at large.

Yeah except there are 4 white players on the team and several married to men. I have no idea how many are gay, nor do I care. Your comment is stupid and ignorant
I don't care either. Just making an observation.

Probably should have said black OR gay. The fact anyone even knows their sexual preference is weird. Who cares?

How hot do you think US women's college basketball is in France? France just played in the World Cup final and you think the Paris locals are going to pony up big bucks to see US women's (or men's) basketball?

My guess is that among Europeans the big draw (to the extent there is a big draw) in women's basketball is Brittney Griner. Esp since it's likely her first appearance in Europe since Putin released her...
Brian Griner can go f*ck himself. So can anyone that sticks up for him and I have zero respect for any of that sickness. Just another in a long, long, line of liberal stupid sh!t. It never ends, gets worse, and needs to be stomped out and destroyed yesterday!

That's what needs to happen to attitudes like yours.

I have nothing against Caitlin Clark, but statistically, what makes her worthy of the Olympic team? She's 4th in the league in assists. And tied for 4th in the league in 3 pointers made.

Why are right wingers so hung up on the most ridiculous things? I'm sure she'll eventually be an Olympian, but at this point, she simply doesn't make the cut because there are better players in the WNBA than her.

I'm not going to get into the mess about lesbianism and the rest. But what I do know is that without increasing the number of fans, the WNBA doesn't increase player pay and the US women's team doesn't increase revenue.

What's going on in both of these situations isn't good business. Indiana played Washington last week and they moved to game to the Capitol center instead of their 4k seat stadium. They sold 20k tix for a game between two teams that haven't even won 5 games between them. All the petty BS is going to result in squandered opportunities for the women's game.
Meanwhile, the Fever are in 2nd to last place in the league and Clark doesn't have the numbers to put her on the Olympic roster.

Do you want the US to win the gold medal or not? The best players should be on the roster. I remember the Jacksonville Jaguars fans saying "Sign Tebow! Fill the stadium!"

FAIL

I am not even close to a right winger and I think leaving her off the team was a stupid move by USAWB

I think there are 2 players on the team who played in the Olympics having never played a pro game. So, proving yourself the best in college, which they were, was good enough to make the Olympic team.
Irrelevant. This is a different team, and the women's game improves each go around.

It never ends because people like you make it pop up in places it doesn't need to be.

Quick, now tell us how your apples are liberal.

Stupid for who, though?

Do you think she wants to be some token player to appease whatever publicity could be gained by it?
Of course she wanted to play. A 22 yr old with a chance to play in the Olympics? Please. She reportedly told her coach “hey coach they woke a monster.” And anyone that good inside doesn’t think she’d be a token player as evidenced by her quote.

This thread sullied the issue with politics. Growing a league and a sport few give a shit about is the topic. No different than how mls brings in washed up players who are household names vs younger guys in their prime that no one has heard of but would cost the same and be an upgrade in quality

She got off to a bad start on becoming a monster, her +/- was -30 yesterday. That is biblically bad. The coach, who appears even worse than a -30, got on the team for a lack of effort. On what I saw in the first half, that lack of hustle certainly included Clark. She also can't even pretend to guard anyone without fouling.

If she made the team and played junk minutes, would that make people happy? I am not sure it wouldn't hurt the sport if Mc cleared his night to watch the women's team play to see Clark and she played the last 19 seconds of a 48-point win.

She was psychologically broken from being snubbed. Devastated. A natural reaction 😉

MC ain’t watching that shit. But our law school buddy took his girls from Chicago to a fever game and the girls loaded up on her jerseys. They wouldn’t have gone save Clark. Those girls would tune in. Now I bet they don’t.

I played usisl soccer which at the time was the top professional league in the states. My guess is that if 4,000 people showed 3,000 were kids. They would put speakers at each corner flag and play Britney Spears during the game. And the usisl was massive. I can’t even remember how many damn teams there were. I played on two different ones and it was always the same crowd. Dad and four kids. Like my daughter bringing three friends. Tickets were cheap. Those kids today are mls season ticket holders. Stand alone spectacular stadiums all over the country. Messi.

Winning a game is smaller than building the game. Clark can help do that today. Her star will never be as bright as today

She's not good enough right now, and as good as she will be, it's not close. He's a high volume inefficient player who clearly, along with last year's #1 pick, isn't good enough to win consistently. You want to have a basketball discussion, start there.

If the selection committee and coaches didn't think she could earn minutes, then they shouldn't keep her.

I'm a big Clark fan because from the end of the 2023 season it was clear she was going to be a Fever. They were going to move heaven and earth to make sure of that. She's fun to watch, but she's not ready.

And the monster they 'awoke', laid a big fat f-ing egg last night vs. Connecticut. Again, it just means she's not ready. She will be soon, and I hope she has a Curry effect on the women's side.

This thread didn't sully the issue with politics. This thread was about 'politics' out of the gate and not even the politics of the sport.

She wasn’t snubbed. I’m not sure who among those should be left off. She will have plenty of time to represent her country. She honestly needs the rest time. She went straight from Iowa to the WNBA. She’s looked tired in some of the games. I wanted her to be on, but may be for the best.
Of course this is the most rational and reasoned post here. I don’t know enough about the selection process for the Olympic selection process to make an informed opinion, but given where Catturd and Dave Portnoy have come down on this I feel like what you’ve laid out is accurate.

Of all the well-known people on the internet they’re up there for being the dumbest. If they both came out with multiple posts with chest-beating rants about water being wet I’d spend some time independently verifying it and making sure something didn’t change overnight before agreeing with them.

Plenty of time to represent her country has nothing to do with growing the game. By the next Olympics she’ll be an afterthought. This college run and notoriety will be a distant memory.

She’s not cute in the least. Alex Morgan etc. as mark referenced so her sponsors will dwindle as well. Guaranteed

Leaving her off was bad business

If she turns out to be as good as people thinks she is she’ll be a start for 10-15 years. Steph Curry and Larry Bird aren’t exactly GQ models.

All I did was point out your non sequitur to my point. You don't have the wherewithal to make me a victim via anything you say or do. Now, move the goalposts again in an attempt at a W.
LOL

And why would she want to participate in what you were talking about is a legitimate follow up. You'll be OK, pookie.

She won’t garner the attention she did in college. Not near the audience etc. the novelty etc
