Caitlin Clark Snubbed

I guess it all boils down to whether or not they're making a basketball decision or a business decision.

Leaving her off the team brings out all the nutters claiming it's because she's white and straight. If she made the team but sat on the bench would things be any different?
See hooky’s post. Yes. Commercials etc. she would have been featured

Yeah I mean it makes no sense. Terrible business. The leading scorer in the WNBA has 100k followers. That’s pitiful.
Aja Wilson is the leading scorer in the WNBA and has 978k IG followers.
Sabrina Ionescu 1.2M followers
Griner 700k+ followers
Kelsey Plum 1M followers

btw, Jackie Young is from Princeton, Indiana. Almost came to IU, went to ND. Was a rival player/school to Tyra Buss.

They could have easily doubled or even tripled the air time the women's team would get by including her as a "scrub" a the end of the bench. It was a wasted opportunity. Now we'll have to continue to hear people asking why no one pays attn to it while they focus on the men's team. Sometimes, people can't get out of their own way.
Then you'd have all of these Johnny Come Latelys like McMurt crying about why she isn't playing. The girll will have a great career and wins probably 3 gold medals. But she isn't one of the best players in the US yet. Not even close, frankly. This isn't a college all star game.

Understand she's not. I'm just saying it's a bad business decision. You're going to have people complaining about it, whether she's on or not. Might as well drive additional eyeballs to the women's team. It's a missed opportunity. The next season, let alone the next Olympics, isn't guaranteed to have her participation or the level of interest and momentum.

I don’t know what I was looking at. Griner is the only one I’ve ever heard of and that’s only bc of her being apprehended. Clark everyone knows. You can win games and build a brand. Both are important

So would we hear less bitching if she made the team? Or would a different set of nutters be complaining that a black/gay player got bumped to make room for the white/straight rookie?

Probably but who cares. That’s the same argument inimical to progressive thinking. Do you want low crime rates or do you want to virtue signal and defund. Do you want to shore up womens’ bball by drawing more eyes, sponsors, coverage, or do you want to worry about feelings.

Mls wants recognizable names. That’s how you build an audience. Same drill. Don’t leave out the biggest name in womens’ hoops if you want to grow the sport

Not sure if it would be more or less or the same, nor do I really care. One of the things I'm harping on all the time in my professional life is, "Time kills all deals". That's what's at work here. I'll say it one last time and then bow out. While this may very well have been a good basketball decision, it was absolutely a bad business decision. Pro sports are entertainment, pure and simple. They had a chance to bring more TV time to the women's Olympic team and inexplicably decided not to do it. I'll stop well short of the idea that the inmates are running the asylum, but it's a silly blunder. I could be wrong about all of this, but I don't think I am.

You must live under a rock (explains some of your political opinions too) if you haven't heard of Ionescu or Plum (mainly bc Plum is whose record CC broke this year). I don't watch the WNBA, but I know who these players are.

As an aside to this conversation, 4 WNBA teams have sold out their season tickets this year...so this rise in popularity for the sport/league isn't all about Caitlin Clark.

Participation trophy. Like I said.

The US women’s national team built Alex Morgan’s profile, not the other way around. You know this. She filled the void left by retiring, mega stars who built the sport themselves and earned their spots.
She needs to try harder. I don't even recognize her name.

Exactly the point. CC brings fans to the WNBA who have never been there before. She is opening an entirely new source of fans and $.

No you’re just a progressive with little understanding of policy and outcomes. My guess is you have minimal education based on your posting history. Your take here is as off the mark as all your progressive takes. Living under a rock bc I haven’t heard of womens’ basketball players in a league with 12 teams that averages 6k fans a game. Please. Incredibly stupid - per usual.

What stars are building the WNBA brand? Brittney Griner who talks like a man and hates the US until she gets her/his ass thrown in prison in Russia.

The WNBA needs to capitalize on rookies Clark, Reese and Brink. Clark can light it up. Brink and Reese are hot and good!

Clark is all hype at the WNBA level and certainly a star but she is not really dominant against pros like she was in college. Right now she is to inefficient at the pro level. That will change with experience and better talent around her. She should go play 3 on 3 and go for gold with ultra versatile rookie Cameron Brink. Right now the best thing about clark is she seems to get that others are just as or more deserving.

Well, I just appreciate whatever it is that Biden did in the last 6 weeks to lower gas prices aby about 60 cents per gallon. I'm sure it was his policy decisions.

Reversing course on the border too. By god by the election he may just be center left. You’ll have to send your donations to AOC at that point.

Can you pinpoint his recent policy moves that lowered gas so much in such a short period of time?
Dip in demand? Easing inflation. I understand your educated is limited but have you gone back and looked up the difference between caused and contributed? Do you understand Biden’s impact on inflation?

Why does she want to be the token player at the end of the bench?

Now we know who paid for this. Sorry your son was cut.

A dip in demand when summer vacations have started and the more expensive refining season has started? Interesting theory.

AAA is projecting a record-setting 38.4 million people to hit the road for the weekend, the most since they started tracking holiday travel in 2000 and a 4% increase from last year.

Just spitballing. I didn’t look. I got gas over the weekend and it was still very expensive

When are you sending your Cv?

Also I was preoccupied. Did you debunk the 200 things Biden did to contribute? Did I miss your response?
And you know gas is only one issue. Cars, houses, groceries, insurance. So much more that your guy contributed to. But maybe he is backing away from that. You’ll have to fall in with the squad.

Cause and contribute. Don’t forget to look up the difference

So Brink, Reese and Clark all should be on the Olympic team?
I Didn’t say that. The vets in the league can’t draw shit to games on their own. Just like the Tiger affect on the PGA Tour the vets in the WNBA need stick their egos where the sun don’t shine and enjoy the money Clark is bring to the game.

No need to be a giant gaping twat 100% of the time. Everyone needs downtime from what they do best to rest and reflect on some other goal that they could achieve after mastering what comes easy to them. Stretch your boundaries a bit, little fella.

ETA - Nothing in your reply to me has anything to do with the point I was making.

You must not have seen in this thread where I posted that 3 teams besides the Fever have sold out their season tickets this year. Most in the leagues history. I'd say that's an improvement.

My CV has as much oil and gas on it as yours, hoss. And no need to debunk 200 things. US Presidents, regardless of party, don't impact gas prices positively or negatively in the short term (short term being 4-7 years, give or take).

Lmao the dallas wings. 40% of an arena that holds 6k. Your business sense is on par with your political sense

Yep and it’s mostly because of Clark. Once people start showing up they will see all these gals can play. They should be thrilled Clark got the people in the arenas. I like watching their regular season games more than NBA regular season games. They bust ass all season ling plus the playoffs.

The Olympic team should be geared toward the roster giving the highest chance for winning a gold medal, not maximizing ratings or pleasing warped politicized goals. Continuity, game experience, and practice time / cohesiveness are all especially important in international competition, and based on her play so far I think CC, while being surely a future star, is not a good fit for this team.

If you put her on the team as a token just for publicity, it just creates more of the BS that has been circling her for much of this season. There is no benefit for her to do that, and I'm not totally sure her reach is beyond the US, so it wouldn't benefit the WNBA just for her to be on the team.

If we assume she has pride in herself, I'm not sure why she would want to do it. Assuming she stays healthy, she'll have plenty of time to play.

Sure it does. Your implication was it was a marketing ploy. I doubt she's into being a token. There is no benefit to her in that role.

I must admit, I don't find your humor as amusing as your general appearance or the unique way you interact with people.

I never said anything about it being for her benefit. I consistently explained that putting her on the team was about the US women's team without mention of having any type of personal benefit. Try to comprehend what you read.

Not putting Griner on the team would have been a huge mistake.

She's such a unique player that 99% of the league can't do... dunk. She gets a good one and that would bring eyes to the game.

She's also still incredibly productive. She averaged almost 18 a game last year, which would put her just outside the top 10 in scoring this year and has a 56% shooting average over her career (which is what she shot last year).

Griner should be on that team.

You must HATE the us women’s soccer team then
