Caitlin Clark Snubbed

But, you don't, so why all the butt hurt?
Because in his view, she was left off so they could get more blacks and lesbians…and *gasp* black lesbians on the team. Basically, it was a calculated and personal snub to every red-blooded MAGAt.

Did you not get the memo Soros sent after our last meeting? It’s a whole list of shit we can do to piss off MAGAts.

The spin is off the charts.

Well, her PT would be limited. She’s not a good defender and her TO’s are off the charts. I believe she set a record for the most turnovers in a game for a rookie. So this isn’t at all the same as MJ as a rookie, who averaged 28.2 ppg, 6.5 rebounds, and 5.9 assists. He was the GOAT from the start and she needs some work.

Sir Charles was one of the 12 best in 84, I think all of us have no problem he was left out. I know I defended that coach.

Isiah was one of the 12 best in 88, we know he was left out because no one else would play with a Piston.

If best was all that mattered, tell me where I am wrong.

Even Sir Charles was ok with it. One of my fav stories…I think it’s true and not urban myth. Coach dismissed him because he thought he wasn’t serious and wouldn’t get into shape. Why? Because someone ratted him out that he had a closet full of Twinkies in Bloomington at the try outs.

She played a full NCAA season, playing a ton of minutes, now a full WNBA season also a ton of minutes. She couldn't attend the trials. Almost everyone on the team are people who have been on it for years.

Boston also did not make it, she was NCAA player of the year in 22, and WNBA Rookie of the year in 23, and attended camp.

Frankly it will be nice to watch the Olympics without breaking coverage of how Clark had her eggs cooked. I don't know the last athlete this over exposed, maybe Ali? Even Bo Jackson wasn't covered near as much as Clark.
The argument that the selectors went for a roster stacked with veterans, if true, is flawed. The team would benefit by mixing in (and developing) a few young players who will be the backbone of future Olympic teams.

This roster was constructed to favor aging players, who have already been on a few Olympic teams, and to make sure that a NEW player does NOT steal their spotlight.

Or, was it scheduled that way to exclude top college players from the tryouts?
Maybe, but the WNBA game is not nearly as far ahead of the college women game. But the NBA is way way way ahead of the college men.

Clark is a streak shooter - fun to watch when “on” - but fitting her game into a team scheme that maximizes that AND the other 4 players, needs some time.

That may be true, I have no inside knowledge. Ionescue made it, she is about 2 years older.

But I would not be surprised to find that here, and in other Olympic teams, coaches sometimes favor loyalty too highly.

I freely admit i have no idea why she was left off, I am just arguing the other side has no idea either. It may be nefarious, it may be misplaced loyalty, it may be any of two dozen other things.

You don't care about Clark, you just want this to put on your GOP colors and bash others. It is all you do here.

I admit to having an anti Clark bias. She was public enemy number 1, every bit as much as a Chris Weber or Brian Cardinal. Heck, even now her minutes come at the expense of Berger's. I bet I have seen Clark in person more than you. We saw every Iowa game at Assembly Hall, and in the two years she played in the BTT in Indy.

She is a great shot, and has a good touch on her pass. She is not a good defender, and can show up her teammates.

The UConn coach had a great quote in the last two days, he said her biggest weakness is her fans. They said she would dominate the WNBA out of the gate. The older WNBA players correctly saw that as an insult. So they really focus on defending her and they do so physically. She lacks the quickness to escape.

To me she is Steve Alford 2.0. much better range, but dependent on help to get shots. Curry could generate his own far better.

Next year she will be stronger, if you watch a fever game compare her to Berger. Clark gets a little stronger, picks up new ways to get space, she will be much better. Right now, she isn't the best player in the world. Not close. And if Bueckers from UConn didn't have two major injuries, I am not sure she would have been the best player in college this year. Freshman year, I thought Bueckers was better.

Let her learn the WNBA and she will get to great, but she isn't right now. Her assist to TO is 1.1/1. Haliburton just had a 4.6/1 season. Three pt % for Clark is 33%. Not great. They have a short pre season, not a lot of time getting comfortable. Frankly letting her sub her first couple of games might have helped her growth a lot. But politically that wasn't possible.
I think she can get her own shot better than Alford, but her game overall doesn’t fit yet.

She is a great shooter, poor defender. As an IU fan that sat right next to the court, she complains about every call. I don't blame her for yelling at the fans, they were overly exuberant in name calling. But every call/non call led to complaints and theatrics. Her coaches and teammates discussed the maturity she needed back as a freshman, she was trying to do too much and not trust her teammates. I think in the pro game she has to go further.

She wasn’t snubbed. I’m not sure who among those should be left off. She will have plenty of time to represent her country. She honestly needs the rest time. She went straight from Iowa to the WNBA. She’s looked tired in some of the games. I wanted her to be on, but may be for the best.
Taurasi is in there on past accolades alone. I would have dropped her. There is some other chicken who has been injured all year too. Guard. Another one they could have dropped. Clark could probably use the rest but the league and a bunch of the players are about the bottom of the barrel when it comes to marketing. Christine Brennan is reporting the old heads didn't want her on the team because fans would complain when she wasn't getting minutes.

These women have been begging people to give a shit about their league for years. They finally have a marketable player and ego is getting in the way.

Clark is a phenomenal talent, but I don't think it's all that controversial to suggest that she isn't one of top 10 American players yet. If you're in in the mix after that top 10, it's about availability, experience in international play, position, roster fit, coaching style and beyond. And if it's close a coach is likely to take a more experienced player.

It would be super fun for catturd to break down the sets the American women's team runs and why Clark is a slam dunk roster fit above all other candidates...as though these complaints are actually about basketball.
Put her as the 2 guard and you have several drive and dish point guards. She would fit on the team like a Curry would. Having someone that extends the floor as much as she does makes it really damn difficult on a defense. That especially becomes the case when every other person on her team is supposedly one of the best players in the world at their position as well.

There isn't another player on that team with her range.

Her team and her coach are complete garbage. She's easily a top 10 player in the league.

Taurasi had games of 30 and 28 last week. But their scoring averages are almost exactly the same, 16 points, and Taurasi is unquestionably better defensively. Just read that if the injured player isn’t able to go, Caitlin will probably get the spot. I could argue either way on this one, honestly.

Right now? No she’s not. And I’m confident I’ve watched more WNBA games than you have. Will she be? Absolutely. She’s going to break all kinds of records if she stays healthy.

The Didn't Earn It crowd just can't stand a player who isn't black or a butch ass lesbian in their league. It's as simple as that.
Interesting take lmao. No partisan slant at all there

If you quickly walked by a muted TV, and a WNBA ad was on, you’ve watched more than dbm.

Hey COH.... aren't you glad the thread is about dbm rather than you? 🤣 🤣

This DEI crap has gone too far. IDK why she got left off the team. Politics? I wonder how many of these girls on the roster actually give a crap about the USA. Also, growing up the Olympics were a big deal, has that luster completely worn off?

Checked with two of my female Great Grandchildren who played basketball in high school and are enthusiastic about both WNBA and Women's Olympic basketball.

They surprised me with their reaction to Clark not making the team.

First of all, all the hype about Clark sorta upsets them. In their view women's professional and our Olympic team basketball players have been good for years. The fact the Olympic team already had several experienced guards and Clark didn't make the team illustrates this.

Finally the girls predicted Clark has a tremendous future and may someday be the greatest Olympic player of all time.

Her time will come.

Her team and her coach are complete garbage. She's easily a top 10 player in the league.

A top 10 player doesn't average almost 6 turnovers a game, on a losing team.

She'll have a shot to get there, but right now, no, she's not a top 10 player.

Think his response must have been pulled. Not sure because it was offensive or stupid or most likely both. It’s hilarious people who have likely never watched an entire WNBA game have such strong opinions on this.

I am curious, how closely do you follow women's basketball. I don't recall you in the older threads. I don't know she was or was not good enough. But her stats do not slam the door on the idea she is not.
I don’t follow the WNBA so much as there are individual players I keep my eye on. Clark being one of them. Others include:

Interestingly. None of them are lesbian even though 30% of the WNBA is. It’s almost as if it’s a choice.

This could go so many directions. I guess when I saw it my first reaction was how popular she has become and how many tickets she sold how this could happen. Also, the fact lately all these f*cking men trying to compete in women sports just pisses me off. Caitlin is a bad ass, and as someone said she is streaky, but damn man she can nail 3's from big distance when she is on. It's cool to watch. It's nice to see a WOMAN killing it in her sport. That should be celebrated, and it is, but right now with all the BS in women sports with men she needs to be seen by the world! I still don't understand how we got to this point. jmho
