Caitlin Clark Snubbed

Maybe, but the WNBA game is not nearly as far ahead of the college women game. But the NBA is way way way ahead of the college men.

Clark is a streak shooter - fun to watch when “on” - but fitting her game into a team scheme that maximizes that AND the other 4 players, needs some time.
She is way more than just a streak shooter. I have watched all of her WNBA games and I am convinced that, for her size, not only is she an exceptional rebounder but she is also a very good at getting the ball to others when they are in scoring position.

Yes, she does turn the ball over at a high rate, but turnovers will come down as she adapts to the WNBA.

And, she also shoots around 90% at the free throw line, which is very desirable for a primary ball handler.

Taurasi had games of 30 and 28 last week. But their scoring averages are almost exactly the same, 16 points, and Taurasi is unquestionably better defensively. Just read that if the injured player isn’t able to go, Caitlin will probably get the spot. I could argue either way on this one, honestly.
Taurasi is an all time great.

Taurasi is also way past her prime. Is it time for her to step aside and let the next generation start getting use to Olympic basketball?

Tarausi is understandable. She will go down as a top 3 (probably the best) player ever. If Lebron is still playing 4 years from now, we will likely see him have his swan song on the 2028 Olympic team (especially since they will be in L.A.). And I would think most will be ok with that.

I don’t follow the WNBA so much as there are individual players I keep my eye on. Clark being one of them. Others include:

Interestingly. None of them are lesbian even though 30% of the WNBA is. It’s almost as if it’s a choice.
Why does that make you believe it’s a choice?

She is almost as old as me....

Right now? No she’s not. And I’m confident I’ve watched more WNBA games than you have. Will she be? Absolutely. She’s going to break all kinds of records if she stays healthy.
This whole thing was brilliant, either intentionally, or unintentionally. This is the most I’ve thought about the WNBA since it started. And I’ve never watched more than 2-3 minutes of a game only because I was waiting for what was coming on afterwards.

In my experience "Lesbian" is a synonym for "Doesn't attract male attention"
I’m sure it’s in house politics. She’s 13th in scoring. 4th in assists. 4th in 3 pointers. The biggest name out there. Hell the dream team had laettner. Like the uswnt the old crew hung on forever before relenting. They’re still rolling out Alex Morgan for the Olympics. Absurd

She's also leading the league in turnovers by 1.5 a game over the next player while shooting 32% from 3 and 38% from the field.

She's not top 10 in the league (yet).

Nah but she’d bring more attention. She’s by far the biggest name in womens’ bball. Put her at the end of the bench. She’d want to go. At her age it’s the Olympics. Hell of a lot bigger than the wnba. And shit happens. She may never have the opp again.

But who knows what part politics play. On the uswnt politics was huge. And I don’t mean Dem/pub but politics like certain players have outsized influence. Just guessing tho. But if you want to grow the sport you don’t leave her off imo

I have no doubt that politics came into play here, but I don't remember a bunch of people being up in arms because Isaiah Thomas was left off the Dream Team when he clearly should have been on it because MJ didn't want to play with him.

If I were to guess, this is the exact same thing.

Yup.

When I was a kid there was a guy named Brian Benedict from so fla. Best US player I’ve ever seen. Ever. And I’ve played against all of them from Reyna to Lalas. He played on the youth national teams but only played a few times on the full national team. Played at duke and even had a trial at Barcelona. But he was a dick and the little power crew at the time with the mens’ program basically blackballed him. Was ridiculous. He should be a household name today but the politics involved was an absolute joke. I can only assume it’s the same in most of those sports

Sir Charles was one of the 12 best in 84, I think all of us have no problem he was left out. I know I defended that coach.

Isiah was one of the 12 best in 88, we know he was left out because no one else would play with a Piston.

If best was all that mattered, tell me where I am wrong.
‘88 was the last amateur Olympic team, so Isiah Thomas wasn’t eligible to be on the team. John Thompson was coach and they only won bronze. 1992 was the Dream Team.

Was that politics or because he was a dick? Team chemistry is critical and if nobody wanted him around, then I can understand why he was left off. We hear "addition by subtraction" all the time regarding sports teams. Maybe Benedict was a victim of his own making.

A little but there was in the “in” crowd that left a number of people out. He was the best player in the country imo

Checked with two of my female Great Grandchildren who played basketball in high school and are enthusiastic about both WNBA and Women's Olympic basketball.

They surprised me with their reaction to Clark not making the team.

First of all, all the hype about Clark sorta upsets them. In their view women's professional and our Olympic team basketball players have been good for years. The fact the Olympic team already had several experienced guards and Clark didn't make the team illustrates this.

Finally the girls predicted Clark has a tremendous future and may someday be the greatest Olympic player of all time.

Her time will come.

Want to correct my post as to my relationship
with the young ladies who commented on the Clark "snub".

They are my Great Grand Nieces not my Great Grandchildren. My older brother who is their Great Grandfather would have been 101 years old this April.

Am old but not that old.

You had me scratching my head, hoot. You being a great uncle with nieces in their 20s makes a lot more sense.

So? Are you really dumb enough to think every lesbian is ugly?
Some become lesbian for other reasons, frequently poor past relationships with a male partner or authority figure. Maybe some for attention, or in Sue Bird’s case conform to the culture in which she operates.

But do I believe in female homosexuality as a biological phenomenon? Not really.

So you don’t believe in science. Got it. You just make shit up and post it as fact, expecting us to believe it.

The science that says men with a penis can menstruate and get pregnant if they just close their eyes, tap their heels 3 times, and say “I’m a woman, I’m a woman, I’m a woman.”

IDENTIFY! TESTIFY! BELIEVE-A-LIE!

Me Tarzan, you Jane.

As we salesmen like to say, Keep it simple stupid.

The Kiss Method makes for both easy to understand science and politics.

I think you meant 1992. 1988 was the last year we played college kids in the Olympics. They didn’t win the gold in ‘88 so that’s when we decided to play NBA all-stars, thus the Dream Team was formed in ‘92.

Also, this means Bob Knight was the last U.S. coach to take college players to a gold medal performance in the Olympics. And frankly, it’s my belief he could’ve done it again in ‘88. No one prepared a team of talented players better than Knight.

Sue Bird says she has always been gay.

I'm not going to get into the mess about lesbianism and the rest. But what I do know is that without increasing the number of fans, the WNBA doesn't increase player pay and the US women's team doesn't increase revenue.

What's going on in both of these situations isn't good business. Indiana played Washington last week and they moved to game to the Capitol center instead of their 4k seat stadium. They sold 20k tix for a game between two teams that haven't even won 5 games between them. All the petty BS is going to result in squandered opportunities for the women's game.

You mean she didn’t change teams because she wanted to fit in with her coworkers?
Strange.

My gaydar sucks. I'm always the last one to realize someone is gay. Sue Bird was one that surprised me. Maybe it was wishful thinking on my part...
