Prairie Bomb! is word class. Ovaltine can back me on this. BBA Prairie Bomb is the facking winner winner chicken dinner.

I had Xocoveze Extra Anejo last night had great spice but it wasn't shit compared to Mexican Cake. BA Cake is unreal.

I tried Ghost FAce Killa once. I"m not sure I could be paid to try it again. Even with breakfast stout it was hot. A couple nights I had "fresh-ish Habanero Sculpin. I liked it but ate tums after it just an in case scenario.

See, I really like habanero Sculpin. I've had Ghost Face sitting in my fridge for quite a while though. I understand that it's on another ridiculous level that most can't stand. But I liked the original Stone Crime, so I'll give it a shot.

Honestly I'm skeptical that barrel aging would improve Xocoveza. It's such a tremendous, complex beer on its own. I'd try the barrel aged versions though. As expected with Abraxas.

Bomb just doesn't have that next level of complexity to me. It's great, but cinnamon and nutmeg would kick it up even more. I had Sierra Nevada Imperial Stout with chocolate and chilies on draft the other day. It was great, but reminded me of Bomb because of what it was missing.

Hmmm. I haven't had enough Bomb or Prairie to know but I'll take your word for it. I like Bomb, but I haven't been blown away by it. I've liked Abraxas and Xocoveza a lot more. My brother grabbed some Mexican Cake and I'm looking forward to trying that too. I really dig the spiced stouts. I even liked the Rogue Sriracha stout I finally had tonight. I'm tempted to mix some Ghost Face Killa with Breakfast Stout.
I've got a bomber of this I've been sitting on for ..... 8 or 9 months?

It scares me. As you know, I absolutely LOVE spiced beers, but the last batch of Habanero Sculpin I had LIT ME THE FLOCK UP. Only finished two, gave the other four to Little O.

Speaking of Sculpin, have a couple of bottles of Pineapple Sculpin headed my way. I'm curious to see how it compares to Grapefruit Sculpin in the "drinkable and still a beer" category.

I'm a BOMB! fan. Still have 3 bottles I'm sitting on. Little O is trying to con me out of 1 or 2. Nope.

The last 6er of Habanero Sculpin I had burned my ass up. Had 2, gave 4 to Little O. And I flocking LOVE heat.

No need to fear Space Ghost. I really enjoyed it, but it's not that spicy. Central Waters is very underrated I think. Their bourbon barrel aged Imperial Stout, Scotch Ale and Barleywine are all really good. Unfortunately the only time I had Peruvian Morning it was infected, but I'd give it another shot.

Had a couple pints of WarPigs Lazurite IPA on tap at Floyds yesterday. Paired with mussels in a smoked butter and carmelized onion broth....hmmmm good.

Don't figure I'll be going to Copenhagen anytime soon, so was happy to give it a whirl here in da bee-yoo-tee-full Region.

I'm officially declaring Hop Slam "not rare" - I've seen it on tap at 3 different local watering holes here in Da Region since last Thursday. Not looked for it in cans at local bottle shops, but I'm guessing that you'll be able to buy as much of it as you want at your shop in the near future.

It's a solid beer - is it better than last years? Like I could phacking tell....And you won't be able to either - no one's palate memory is that good.

I had 18th Street Lake Street Express tonight. That's a pretty excellent session ale.

I agree with everything you say about Hopslam. Instead of buying a case like I have the past few years, I'm thinking just a 6er. My beverage inventory is ..... overwhelming.

Lake Street is a solid session, you are correct.

Who you cheating on me with? I keed, I keed - its a big ole beverage world...

Hopslam is just hitting Peoria this week. I stopped by Kelleher's after work yesterday for the first local tapping. It still tastes great to me. It certainly isn't the cloudy fruit juice bomb that's so trendy but it's still a fantastic, smooth, well made IIPA. I'll grab a couple 6 packs. I got a couple badass Hopslam snifters too.

Also, we're getting Half Acre here this month. I'm shocked that we're getting them before Revolution but I'll take it. They're one of my favorites.

Agree on the HopSlam - its a solid IIPA, but nothing more. BTW - I love those glasses; we scored a pair at our local last year, and we use them all the time.

Half Acre is top five in my regional book. Gone Away is my go to IPA, and Daisy Cutter is a perfect summer time beer. I wish both would distribute to da Region, but I don't think that's happening any time soon.

It's funny how things are so segmented in the beer world, via distribution. You guys post a bunch of stuff I've never seen around Indy.

A lot of Lagunitas choices were rare to see around here until this past year, now it's stocked everywhere.

But we have Half Acre in every store in town, and have had it for years. I used to drink their stuff quite a bit...their Hoppy Wheat is a very popular summertime beer around our house. Gone Away is very solid as well. And their prices are very reasonable compared with most.

Da Region is like ..... 15 miles, maybe 20 miles from Half Acre?

Beer distro "rules & regs" ..... flummox me.

Agree about Half Acre's Gone Away, BTW. That's an excellent beer, and so is Daisy Cutter (and Double Daisy Cutter).

Stone is the one that confuses me in Minnesota. They're EVERYWHERE in the Twin Cities, but you can't find a drop of their stuff in Mankato (80 miles away). I ask my beer store peeps and they look at me like I've got 3 noses.

Did I tell you my cousin has been working at the Mankato Brewery? Ask for Jeff Metcalf sometime.

Yeah strange. Stone is everywhere in Indy as well.

Yes, makes no sense - why is it in Indy and not here? I'm a laissez-faire kind of guy, so I don't fight it. When I'm working on a job up in the city I stop at Binny's (and my wallet weeps), so I'm able to get pretty much whatever I want. My real preference, though, is to stop in at Half Acre or Revolution or Piece, and enjoy. That's good living right there.

Jesus, think I haven't had enough coffee.

Ignore what I said, I was thinking of Boulevards 80 Acre when I replied.

Which I confused with Half Acre... because my SIL often brings some of that down for me from Chicago. Gone Away is what I've had, none of the others. Very tasty beer. Not sold in Indy.

Thanks for clarifying - I was thinking WTF?

Lagunitas was bought by Heineken so their distribution increased significantly

I don't complain, I'm just ..... flummoxed.

The last time I stopped at Binny's, this is what my car looked like as I drove away .....

Wow. It is truly a small world. I just picked up their Imperial Red. Might have to try that tonight.
Indeed it is. I'm not sure if he's still working there, but he's been there kind of off and on as an assistant brewer while he looks for a job in his real field which would be as a park ranger/wildlife type.

So I went from living in Grand Rapids, MI -- maybe the craft beer capital of the U.S. -- to Louisville a little over a year ago. I like the 'ville, but the availability of great beers in GR was off the charts. The stuff Founders had on tap that wasn't distributed made living there awesome. And Hopslam arrives here at least two weeks later than everywhere else...you all are already tired of it by the time I've had my first taste.

By the way -- someone here recommended Ballast Point Sculpin. I finally had a chance to buy a 6'er a few weeks ago. Solid beer.

I'm brewing an Oberon clone now -- looking forward to trying it out.

Having a Lost Abbey Track #8

A 13.7% Belgian Quad w raisins aged in bourbon barrels w cinnamon and chilies

Wow it's good

My beverages tonight .....

First up, this magnificent DAPA, courtesy of Ptown. Citra, Amarillo, and Centennial hops. I don't know how this isn't an IPA, but I absolutely LOVE it.

NHbagCY.jpg

Next, cranking things up a notch, this iconic imperial stout. Stick a fork in me, I'm done.

I knew you'd love the Brickstone stuff. Great choice on the Expedition. One of the best Imperial Stouts out there. I still have some of the 30th Anniversary Stout which is as good. Bells knows their stouts, though the cherry is undrinkable.

Does anyone here have frequent access to Surly Abrasive?

I'd be up for a trade, if there is anything that you'd want from Indy area.

I wasn't aware there was anything classified as a 'Double Pale Ale'. Is that like a XPA?

Pretty sure they are all IPAs with creative marketers.

Just depends on what the breweries decide to call it. A lot of pale ale are really IPAs. Many porters are stouts, etc. As long as its good I don't care what they call it.

I still have some 30th Anniversary, probably gonna cellar it.

The Cherry Stout is ..... not up to Bells' standards.

The 30th anniversary is top notch. Had an 18th St Sex & Candy earlier, it was excellent. Working my way through a Speedway Stout. That's a big beer to tackle solo, but still one of the best stouts out there...

What is sad is that last years Cherry Stout was amazing. I was super disappoint in this years but to say it normally Undrinkabke is completely false.

I had a glass of Bretta Back the Funk Up at the new 18th St. Hammond facility today.

A brett IPA that was barrel aged for six months in a Hungarian white wine barrel....

I'm not kidding. It was advanced math.

Not normally a brett guy, but twas good.

Bought a couple of bombers of Atomic Whale, their collab with Mikkeler - a RIS with cherries; quite good.

Then, night-capped at New Oberpfalz, who had a new coconut RIS on tap - flipping fantastic.

Hoops Cat is now going to bed....

But I'm not angry
