From a pure basketball coaching standpoint, he certainly checks all the boxes. But his past issues are enough of a concern, that I'd probably stay away from him. Especially wouldn't focus on him as a primary target. There are a number of other viable alternatives out there, not sure its worth the risk.
Otzelberger is better than Beard, as an example of another guy I'd go after that has already established they can win at the P4 level. But as I've posted many times now, they should scour the college bball ranks and make sure there isn't someone (kind of like Cignetti was), quietly dominating his peers with innovative concepts, execution, etc...
How "lucky" does it appear Kentucky got when the big name guys didn't pan out for them, and they had to "settle" for Mark Pope? He shows what an innovative mind, ability to teach consistent execution, etc... can do when paired with a machine like Big Blue Nation.
McCollom, DeVries, Crutchfield...make darn sure to look hard at a group of guys like that. Because anyone that can teach the game consistently well, and harness the IU resources, will likely be hugely successful. Pair the list down to a few guys like the list I mentioned, maybe Beard and/or Matta too...then match it up with personalities and the likelihood that they can handle the IU specific stresses.
