Lots of people taking breaks on the concourse 91 bright sun in a crowd is no fun.
I thought the place would empty at half but it didn’t. Several older folks sitting in the EMT area with ice bags on their necks.
I would drive three and a half hours each way, battle heavy traffic around Indianapolis and then congestion near the stadium, then pay for parking. There is no way I would just stay in the parking lot and not go inside the stadium.
I have my $9 beers before and after the game….when I can drink 6 of them for the same price.
I saw 3 people in motorized wheelchairs near the front of our entrance stay until the end sweating it out as the able bodied fans filed past them and exit at the start of the 4th.
Some people just are mentally tougher.
7th and fee, probably. Don't worry, it's only a mile and a half of walking, uphill, to the stadium from there.
Same for premium tailgate parking who watch second half from lots.
We had a couple come our tailgate that parked at the church across the bypass on the south side of the complex. They said $30 and there was a police controlled walkway set up for them.
I cannot speak for south of 17th, but there are mobility golf carts swarming the north side lots.Weighing in on attendance and game experience yesterday.
Double IU grad, played some frosh ball. 75ish years old, enough to remember both "rose bowl" games now.
Die hard IU football and basketball (and soccer and volleyball and base/softball) all of which are decent and (if soccer steps up again like I think they will again this season) ... all on the rise.

Bought 2 tickets weeks ahead, $120. Bought parking ahead, and ticket office was less than helpful, have mobility issues, "best available" was in Forest green lot, $35 + another $10. Answer to "Is there handicap drop off?" was "I don't think so." Contacted about seat backs, again less than helpful "must pick them up inside stadium and can't reserve" and "not sure where in the stadium that's at." Hotel $170. And then, the traffic (which is the same for 50+ years) sucks and both city & university incapable/unwilling (or?) to fix it. $450+. And, yes, hotter than hades, with no tailgate to resort to. Great win, but the experience wasn't pretty. Well, pretty embarrassing IMO on the university's part ... have a good team on the field and chaos from start to finish. I don't want to think what three times the attendance will look like!
Love the direction fb is going, but was one of the worst fan/ticket/parking experiences I've seen (and I've seen a lot of Universities/arenas).

Plenty of free street parking with a relatively easy walk in the area north of 10th to the railroad underpass (roughly 13th St) between Dunn and Woodlawn. The railroad tracks make it so there are limited places to get to the other side but not a huge problem if you don't want to pay. Just find someone who tailgates in the reserved grass lots and stop off for a rest on the way into the stadium.
It might just be that there are not all that many IU football fans, yet.
Frankly, despite not being a huge fan of 'IU football fans', I'm confident we'll have a good crowd Saturday. It would be better if it weren't noon, but those are the cards dealt. Now it will be up to the team to perform/win and not shit the bed like we've done so many times before.
FIU and Charlotte were 43-44K tickets sold. MD is at around 47K sold right now with five days to go. Idk I assume they'll sell a 1-2K more.
MD game more people will use their tickets too. I think it will be noticeably improved, but obviously a ways to go before we're a "passable" crowd.

That is very disappointing to read. And I do worry about what it will actually be like when we do sell out. They want a packed house, but I don't see them being able to handle it. I feel like forwarding that to my ticket rep.Weighing in on attendance and game experience yesterday.

Water is called “the universal solvent” because of its easy bonding configuration, but I don’t think anyone will dissolve in the four hour time frame. We haven’t had rain in over a month. A 41% chance is to be encouraged in these south-central IN parts.
I park for free (game day only rule) in the “student pass only” lots bordering 13th St, between Fee Ln and N Walnut Grove. Students come and go from fraternity row and the McNutt Complex so I usually have to only drive a couple laps before a space opens up. This location allows me to walk diagonally across all three partying tailgate fields to ogle the coeds in varying states of inebriation and dress. By the time I get to the stadium I wish I was young and vibrant again. Instead, I’m slow and old with my nuts gone cold, but by golly, the parking is free, Man! Can you dig it?
They are out there. They’ve just been waiting for the sleeping giant to awake. The non-football fans are all over at SSAH dry humping the side of the building in pre-ejaculatory anticipation for the season. They are a minority but most of them genuinely just don’t like football. They don’t understand basic rules and don’t follow the sport.
They should be encouraged that IU is capable of hiring a serious coach. They might have to wait a few more years for the trustees to allow them for their sport.
They gave out free tickets for Charlotte and FIU to season ticket holders. That’s why there were so many $5 tickets online. We were all stuck with them.
Sorry for your experience. I live a lot closer and have season tickets so I know how to do it but my experience was quite different. We go earlier, when the traffic has not yet become bad. We get parking in one of the stadium lots and wave down one of the mobility carts when needed. They are very friendly people and wait at each corner of the stadium late and at the end of the game to take you back to your parking area.Weighing in on attendance and game experience yesterday.

You can have the seat back installed if you buy season tickets but yes, you must pick them up for single game purchases. Worth it to me. The line is usually not too long.
There is a great tailgate on the south side of the stadium for us early folks with beer and a band. A few picnic tables and we always strike up a good conversation with someone there.
It was very hot. We kept going under the stadium to cool off but if you bring a container the water stations are free and we were thankful.
I hope you come back sometime and give them another chance.

In regards to prices, however, I would guess that $60 per ticket, $35 for parking, $170 for a hotel and the stadium traffic would be considered to be very moderate at virtually every other power conference game/venue.

On a side note the beers at the Rose Bowl were a beautiful 24oz. Thankfully we had koozies from the IU alumni tailgate.

At least the Rose Bowl had Sculpin, a refreshing, west coast IPA. Had a couple of those delicious brews while at the game. Upland has good beer, but Dragonfly is not the best choice.
I assume you will agree that the UCLA game was really a great time. The alumni tailgate/game/night time Pasadena experience exceeded my expectations. Fantastic experience!
We got shut out of the AA as it was sold out. But we met some locals whose son goes to IU and our two tailgates combined. Fantastic group of people who were so generous. Crazy thing was some of our younger tailgaters knew some oh their younger tailgaters from their time at IU. Small world!
They “officially” cut off the tailgate at 1,000 people, and listed it as sold out, but we threw a Thursday Hail Mary pass email to the alumni association and they added us to the list (and not because I’m a big donor LOL). The attendance ended up being over 1,100. I’ll bet you will agree that it was crazy to see so much red at the game.
We left Eville as soon as I could get off work on the Friday game. A combination of a hard day and sitting in the car caused me to get one of those bad cramps in my hamstring walking in from the lot. One of the ladies in the cars stopped to ask if I needed a ride. My son was embarrassed, I was embarrassed, and I was trying to not let anyone know I was in pain. The biggest reason I didn't take the cart is I couldn't have bent my leg to get in the cart!
