Atlantic just released all the texts this a.m. and it is not good

Yeah positive changes like barring law firms that represent people he doesn’t like or employed attorneys that litigated against him. So curtailing our first amendment right to peacefully protest. And sending alleged gang members to El Salvador whose government has made deals with the alleged gang members to stop the public murders in exchange better treatment for their members held in prison. You no like cell phones, prostitutes and the like. Also, invoking the Alien Enemies Act to justify it. Someone needs to inform Venezuela that we’re at war with them if you’re going to do that. We all want illegal immigrants that are criminals out of the country. But to just say someone is a gang member without presenting any evidence is what dictators do. Leaders of democracies don’t do these things. So those are positive things. Also, my father was a judge and my brother is currently one and my brother was in the service. That doesn’t mean I know about those things. It could however mean that I slept in a Holiday Inn Express last night. Look up cults. Cult members don’t believe anything but what the leader tells them. Even if they can see it with their own eyes. You are in a cult you just can’t or won’t admit it.

Swman, cannot find a sound argument against anything you wrote except the part about yours truly "being in a cult" and not being able, or willing, to admit it.

My post, to which you resppnded, was as an attempt to explain what was, in my opinion, a difference between Biden and Trump.

To set the record straight, I was never a big fan of Biden and find myself concerned about our future after seeing what the Trump administration is doing so far.

Nevertheless, just cannot believe Trump will completely get his way except for some changes which hopefully turn out better than I originally suspected.

Trying to keep an open and positive outlook inspite of such things as world peace and a balanced budget never going to happen in my lifetime.

IMO the prime difference between Biden and Trump is Biden being a traditional old school president (Reagan, the Bushes, Clinton, Obama). In contrast the new Trump Way replaces the cumbersome old
bureaucratic way of the past.

IMO, Trump in looking back to his previous administration, he feels there were too many of the old guard among his political appointments to make a positive change.

Thus, Trump is more than willing to see his new gang make a few mistakes by not following protocols (as in the recent alleged security breech)
Agreed. This wasn't as egregious as f-ups from previous administrations and nothing happened to them.

As long as it doesn't happen again, no harm, no foul. If something like it happens again, I imagine there will be consequences, i.e. firings.

Won’t be the last time. You can bet on that. And what is the reason for Hegseth to take his wife to a meeting with European defense ministers? Does she even have a security clearance? Oh wait. They’ll get around to that when they have time.
He probably thought it was fine, since Dr. Jill used to run cabinet meetings.

Did she have a security clearance?

Sure I was drunk as hell and driving on the wrong side of the highway at night, but I got the kids home and in bed by 10:00pm so it’s fine. That’s what he’s saying right?
No. In your case - in many cases, including my own - we've driven drunk and got away with it. Doesn't make it right and, if we keep doing it, we'll eventually get caught and punished.

But you (the generice 'you') didn't get thrown in jail for driving drunk and getting your kids home OK.

What? Trump was the one who rid Republicans of the Iraq war albatross. McCain and Romney had to tacitly show support for something everyone knew was a disaster and it hurt their campaigns.

Then Trump comes in 2016 and starts blasting Bush and Cheney. It gave the whole party permission to cut bait.

Without Trump, Republicans would probably still be making weak ass arguments for why we needed to go into Iraq.
@swman is just a confused old man

An enlisted soldier would be court martialed and jailed. But that’s ok. He’s just a grunt who is on the front lines defending this country. Of course that’s not nearly as dangerous as traveling around the world and having the great perks that the head of the DOD has. What was I thinking?

You must have slept through the previous administration.

Still unanswered:

  1. If not Waltz individually, who, specifically, on Waltz's team, set up the Signal group?
  2. Why, specifically, does that person have Goldberg "cloaked" as simply "JG"?
  3. Where did the contact list, that had Goldberg cloaked as "JG" come from?

The obvious is that Waltz had him in his phone contacts because he may occasionally want to reach out to Goldberg as an unidentified source to strategically release information. Happens every day in DC.

1. This isn't a mystery. Waltz stated that he set up the group and put JG into the group by mistake.
2. You'd have to ask Waltz because JG was in his contacts. My guess is he has every major national security journalist in his contacts.
3. See 2, JG was in Waltz' contacts. He's said this already.

So, none of those 3 questions are unanswered.

OK, so if Waltz specifically, and not someone on his team, added "JG" to the chat...

he's either grossly irresponsible, or a rat, and should probably be removed sooner rather than later.

Which goes back to:

How, specifically, did "JG" get in Waltz's contacts? Did he add him manually? Was it downloaded from some state department list that was added to his contacts indirectly through some random contact download? And if the latter, who, specifically, created and cloaked "JG"? When and who?

He is clearly irresponsible. You’d have to ask him how and why he added him to his contacts or why he called him JG, which isn’t such a mystery to me. I have JJ, DJ, EJ and several first names in mine. I doubt this is unusual. We know he also had one other contact in the group identified by first and last initial, but that person was supposed to be there.

This is simple. Many in important national security jobs are rookies and careless with sensitive and classified information and who aren’t using the proper channels for those discussions. Instead they were routinely using Signal and gmail which isn’t authorized for that kind of information. I hope they stopped.

Sure. Ask him. Somebody should.

Whoever cloaked him as "JG" was obviously doing it to avoid detection...like listing your side-chick as "Carl" in your contacts, or naming your intramural team "Bye".

Did Waltz do that, or did someone who created some downloadable "contacts list" do it? Who specifically created the contact?

You find that out, you find out if Waltz did this on purpose. If he personally created the list, who did he specifically think "JG" was, if he was added mistakenly?

Even then, whoever created a contact for a Lib "muckracker", and cloaked it, was up to no good. Who specifically created the contact?

Where did you see this “cloaked” thing? It was simply his first and last initials and I’ve done the same for some of my contacts. I can tell you’ve been exposed to some conspiracy theory. I know Looney Loomer made one up which was ridiculous. This isn’t a conspiracy, Waltz screwed up and admitted he screwed up. The primary issue is why Hegseth was sharing classified strike mission information in Signal where that is not authorized and with some people (not just JG) who had no need to know. Make no mistake, when any of them, especially Hegseth, says it wasn’t classified he’s lying. There is no question about that.

So now a highly respected journalist is a muckraker if he doesn’t toe the administration line and reports on a national security breach by said incompetent administration. Maybe we should just let a right wing nut job like Laura Loomer run things. Oops she is.

Highly respected? By whom? The Atlantic is garbage

Who respects Jeff Goldberg?
Obviously not Orange Jesus koolaid drinkers like you. Just can’t admit incompetence of the administration. Wondering when gas prices are going down. Up another $.10 yesterday. Thought that was getting fixed on day one. Last time the dumb a** in 2018 implemented tariffs washing machine went up on average $200. When the Biden administration cancelled those tariffs, prices only went down $75 dollars. And when auto prices go up by thousands, they won’t be coming down by the same amount. Same with everything else where a tariff is attached.
But of course a brilliant businessman like him who declared bankruptcy 6 times knows way more than we commonl folks. Stellantis just laid off 900 auto workers in Michigan and Indiana. And that’s just the start. Just keep drinking that koolaid. Probably will begin to taste like arsenic soon.

hoot1 is a reasonable poster and nice person. Accusing him of being in a cult is unwarranted.

It's simple: write your opinions without attacking someone who didn't say anything about you personally.

People who have given out national awards specifically to him, such as
National Magazine Award for Reporting,
the Daniel Pearl Award for Reporting,
the Overseas Press Club’s award for human-rights reporting,
the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists Prize for best investigative reporting,
editor of the year

and people who give out awards to the magazine for which he serves as editor in chief
3 Pulitzer prizes since he took over, vs. none in the 159 years before that,
National Magazine Award for General Excellence,
Magazine of the year, etc.

I have exactly zero respect for members of insulated ecosystems handing out awards to each other based on qualitative reasoning.

Will do when those cult members on this forum quit doing the same. Hoot previously basically said I didn’t know what I was talking about in a post. When anyone defends this administration that is destroying everything this country stands for I will call them what they are. I loathe everything they are doing. Billionaires putting people out of work is disgraceful and immoral because they don’t care and it won’t personally affect them. Would love to be present on their judgement day.
