Interesting technical vid on the F-18s vs the Houthis. Fortunately, they don't seem to have the systems to take one out. Glad they didn't have a better chance on this mission given the leak:
Without inbound azimuth and altitude information, knowledge of F-18s taking flight wouldn't help anyone much... Modern AntiAircraft Missile batteries are always in the Ready mode (to fire when an aircraft is detected and in range) and once the missile is in flight they track in a 360 degree, 50 feet+_ to Max-altitude contact envelope...
The Houtis don't have an Air Force so knowledge of the fact that there are inbound aircraft is a wash... They still don't have a inbound heading to specifically scan (or "volley fire" ) towards, or an accurate time on target given that the 1st strike package clearly took a circuitous (dog leg) route in order to add time to their arrival on target slightly staggered to match with the other elements of the overall Strike..., and possibly even be a radar decoy to attract attention from the other elements of the Strike...
However the Naval Aviators were able to do it the Results appear to have been a rather spectacular 10/10... It seems that they killed a key player, degraded the Houtis ability to detect inbound future strike packages and seriously degraded their AntiAircraft defenses...
If that is what a major screw up gets us I'll take it...
As long as the Comms Security (or lack thereof) error isn't repeated I'm good with retaining all the principles after they receive appropriate chastisement and are educated as to how to not repeat the error...
Also, as I mentioned in another thread on the same topic, Waltz is the actual party at fault and the addition of the reporter has supposedly been traced to a member of his staff : A. Wong (that's not a joke but leaves plenty of latitude for one [or more]😉😎
Hegseth had a reasonable expectation of secure comms emanating from Waltz's office and there's no way Hegseth could be expected to know all the initials associated with Waltz's staff..., and..., according to the current CIA Director..., the entire Cabinet had Signal preloaded on their phones for just such a discussion...
Now Hegseth clearly over stepped the security boundaries but I'm calling it a rookie mistake, much like the Waltzes "set to delete" timelines were... (whole other can of worms)...
. Hegseth is correct in saying that those bits of information he texted were neither "War Plans" or Attack Plans"... His offending portion of the chat was clearly just a thumbnail overview to bring the rest of the group up to speed. Any actual "Plan" would be so detailed that it would have taken a couple of days (or more) to disseminate it all on a "chat"...
This seems an appropriate spot to drop this bit of humor:
WASHINGTON, D.C. — With lawmakers calling for Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth to resign over leaked Yemen attack plans, Hegseth expressed deep regret for not instead getting soldiers killed in a chaotic withdrawal and handing $80 billion of weaponry to terrorists.
