another elementary school shooting

Taken from a friend…

To those in the general public screaming “Arm the teachers! Give the teachers guns!”… Let me get this straight…

You don’t trust us to teach our content - there are so many bills going to state legislatures undermining the expertise teachers bring to the field. We need to publish a year’s worth of lesson plans because you don’t believe we’re actually teaching, right?

You don’t trust us when we say your student is the reason they’re failing when they are skipping class, aren’t submitting assignments, are playing both sides of the field and are dropping the ball, but it must be the teacher’s fault, right?

You don’t trust us to hold your student accountable for their behavior, standing firm on commitments and expectations, because it’s the teacher asking too much, right?

You don’t trust us to discipline students when they act out or abuse the system, because they’re precious little angels, and we’re the problem, right?

But you’ll trust us, no…EXPECT us to take a bullet for them when the system - when, at this point, not if - fails them.

And NOW you’re saying you trust us, trust me, to add firearm safety and defensive firearm training to my plate? You don’t trust me to execute a lesson plan but you’ll trust me to execute an intruder?

Incredible teachers are leaving the field every day. Phenomenal teachers are barely hanging on as they go through our day to day. Accredited programs and universities all over the country are closing their education programs because no one is enrolling.

When your kids, or grandkids, nieces, and nephews are being taught by actual undertrained people who are the only option to hire, will that make you happy? I mean… at least they’ll have guns…right?
Arming teachers is not a good idea. Too many could be overwhelmed and have their weapons stolen.

The only answer is an armed guard - who is willing to shoot - at every entrance.

If I remember correctly the cop at Majorie Stoneman Douglas high school froze and did not go in either.
Probably because everyone thinks they are Rambo until they find themselves in a situation where they actually need to be Rambo. Then they remember they don’t want to get f*****g killed if they don’t have to.

Every school has probably at least a dozen entrances. It's required by building code because of emergency egress requirements.

There are approximately 250,000 public schools in the US. Therefore, you are looking at 250,000 x 12 doors x $50,000 a year salary = $150,000,000,000 (150 billion dollars) added to the federal school budget. For reference, the entire federal education budget (including relief package) was about 150 billion in 2021. So that is essentially doubling it.

Not saying it couldn't happen, but that would be a tough pill for Rand Paul to swallow.

Not sure why all the doors except for one aren’t locked. Supposedly he got in an unlocked door. We had multiple doors, all doors locked, but can get out from inside obviously. Have to be buzzed in front door then sign in and escorted to class. Oh and picture taken when you get name tag at front.

I thought this is how it is everywhere. It’s certainly how it is at my kids’ school.

Can someone explain to me how Facebook, Twitter and other social media can pick out conservatives for banishment and they can’t identify people like this shooter and report his/her/it’s postings immediately to law enforcement? Maybe the reporting is incorrect but I’ve read he/she/it was posting what he/she/it was going to do 30 minutes before he/she/it did it.

Not fishing for argument, just asking. I heard someone suggest last night to have a federal program to pay all teachers who wanted in the program some amount (maybe $500 or more) per month to be trained and armed with a gun to assist when these situations occur. I assume non starter?

How much is the life of your child worth?

You serious? What can they can do in 30 minutes?

I’m sorry, you can’t be serious. He asked about Facebook - the company. Do you think they monitor posts in real time?

The realistic question is why didn’t anybody who saw it call the police?
My understanding was that he "posted" it to Facebook as a private message to somebody over in Germany (a girl he met online?).

So..

we don't trust them enough to establish a syllabus, because of indoctrination hysteria,
we don't trust them enough to pay them as much as if they waited tables at Applebees,
we don't trust them enough to believe them when they tell you that your little Angel Johnnie needs attitude adjustments,

but we'll trust them to be Rambo, ready to jump in as the perfect decision-making, skilled, cool and calm good guy with a gun, better than law enforcement personnel?

This thread shows how useless, corrupt, and incestuous Congress has become. We have people who are miles apart on most everything politically but are agreeing with one another on what appear to be common sense reforms and regs and Congress diddles.

Shame.

I think I’ve read this talking point enough on Twitter - a respected PhD doesn’t need to regurgitate it.

I'm not regualrly on twitter and have been in 20 work zoom meetings this week to set up research plans. So I haven't read every post on here or even watched much TV. My own thoughts somehow duplicate those of others. The shame of it all!

I suppose a few might. But expecting a teacher to do this, when obviously the police have frozen in two major school shootings is a little far fetched.

idk.

if they don't, maybe they should start

idk.

So they should hire a million people?

Look I’m all for anything that would put social media companies out of business but this is an absurd vector of thinking.

You. Are. On. Your. Own.

90 ****ing minutes the cops sat outside. The parents sat outside and begged the "authorities" to go save their kids. Meanwhile the shooter was possibly barricaded in the room and systematically murdering children. A town of 16,000 people with a SWAT team and the border patrol had to go in. "The cops are outgunned..." My ass, they were in body armor with AR's of their own.

The videos in that article are an argument for why I want a weapon. The criminals will have them and the "authorities" are under no obligation to do anything but clean you and your loved ones up after the suicidal person has killed you and them and then themselves. You. Are. On. Your. Own.

Every cop that sat outside that school should be ****ing fired with no chance at pension or anything else.

And while I am on this rant, what a ****ing crock of shit our government is. They take so much money and don't do diddily jack shit with it. Indiana has a multiple billion dollar surplus of money and our roads are shit. The government pumps police departments full of military equipment for situations EXACTLY like this and the people who receive it play hard ass and totally puss the **** out. We pull $40 billion for Ukraine out of our ass, have $90 billion in unused funds sitting their for schools and kids can't get a school lunch? Can't get books or technology? It's a racket. The whole damn thing is a racket.

And the idea that giving them more power, more money, more control is somehow going to fix things? How? These corrupt mother f'ers can't handle the job they have been given now.

they are pretty damn quick at fact checking/censoring lots of other things

30 minutes may not be realistic ....or possibly it is.....

there are some smart people there, (misguided maybe) and if they wanted to they could probably figure out something

any heads up is a step in the right direction

Okay. Thanks for answer. Seems like an option if you can’t have an army of guards at school.

Our local schools seem locked up well during the day and require identifying yourself before they unlock doors. Of course I guess a shooter can blow out the glass and go through the doors.

... likely when 1,000 people reported a post as being offensive, and the offending contributor / liar had made 10 other posts in the last week that also got reported 1,000 times

Trump had to cross the 25,000 lie mark before he was cut off on twitter.

It ain't fast.

Proof that there’s no chance for real discussion on here. I asked simple question. I wasn’t being a smart ass. Just asked @zeke4ahs a question and she answered politely. Could some teachers if they wanted be trained and armed.

You gave smart ass answer. **** you and please don’t respond to any of my posting in the future.

what exactly was the issue with his response? was it incorrect?
