2022 IU Football Recruiting Thread

Time to make a first stab at 2022 IU football recruiting. Rivals & Peegs both have offer lists. This list is intended to be a condensed version of guys I feel IU has a legit shot at. That's pretty much a guess at this point on the out-of-staters.

Again, I know only what I've read on-line---no personal knowledge. The comments about who 'leads', initially, are all from the 247 site. IU offers of Indiana players ranked by 247 & Rivals are noted as such.

Unfortunately, we've already lost out on some top Indiana prospects. #3 247 & Rivals OT Joey Tanona is a ND commit; #5/2 QB Brady Allen is a Purdue commit; Also, #1/1 DT Caden Curry & #2/6 OT Kiyaunta Goodwin are OSU leans.

I'd welcome comments about additions and deletions. Also, errors.

So here goes:

--Tayven Jackson, QB, Greenwood, IN, 6'5" 185 lbs, #9 247, #9 Riv
--Chad Mascoe, QB, Kissimmee, FL, 6'0" 220 lbs, AUB, FL, IU lead

--Kamari Wilson, S, Bradenton, FL, 6'1" 195 lbs
--Jourdan Thomas, S, Montgomery, AL, 6'2" 190 lbs

Added Jay Fair, a 3*** WR from TX. IU is in his top 5; also, Melvin Jordan, a ****ILB/OLB from St. Petersburg, FL, #224 player on Rivals. IU is in his final 5.

Will be interesting to see how soon Coach Warren’s recruiting ties start kicking in. Bet families/kids he was pushing for GA will give him a listen as DC now at IU

I've got a problem....my list is getting too long.....that hadn't been an issue until now.

Anyway, I see 2 others that are highly ranked that we are after:

--Jamari Lyons, 6'4" 295 lbs DT from Melbourne, FL...#39 ranked player in FL, #201 nationally, 247 shows IU & Florida leading
--Emory Floyd, 6'2" 165 lbs S from GA...#39 player in GA, #455 nationally. 247 shows IU & GA lead

Here's some others that seem to be potential recruits:

--Tawfiq Thomas, #123 in FLA, 6'4" 325 lbs DT from Tampa, IU & UL best offers
--Robby Harrison, NR, 6'3" 268 lbs DT from Greenwood, SC, ASU, Cincy & IU best offers
--John White, 6'4" 240 lbs DE from Cedar Grove, GA (see Christian Miller), NR but with 6 big-time offers
--Kody Finley, 6'4" 180 lbs WR from LA, #33 in LA, IU, Kansas, Memphis best offers
--De'Cario Donaldson, 6'2" 215 lbs TE from FLA, FSU, Miami, Ole Miss, S.C, IU
--Zaylan Reese, 6'1" 190 lbs WR fro Miami, #114 in FLA, with IU & Marshall offers
--Jaylen Ward, 6'2" 190 lbs WR from Alabama, #17 there, IU & GT best offers (not sure why he doesn't have more)

The class for 2022 is the time for IU to breakthrough for one of the top 20 classes. Get the better athletes to commit and come to IU to keep the Hoosiers rising in the B1G.

Will be happy for DC Warren if he can deliver on some serious Def talent next year. First in the Hoosier state (Imagine getting BOTH Brebeuf and Center Grove DEs??) and then some good old fashioned 4-star DB's from FL/GA and similar LB talent. Per the offense, still have a lot of young guys, but anytime we can add 4-star talent at any position, let's do it. Think Coach Heard may be creating the "future NFL pipeline" with what we have now and coming in. We seem to have some burners on the way and I liked things I saw from young talent this year already too.

I got a strong feeling that the kid from Center Grove will be headed out of state. Like out of state specifically to the state of Ohio or Alabama.

Seems like IU is really looking for LBs in the '22 class. I've added ILBs Kyle Efford of Dacula, GA & Renel Troutman of Miami, FLA. Also, OLB Jared Badie, of Orwego, ILL. 247 says IU leads on him, over a nice list that includes Cincy, ILL, UL, MN, NEB, and Purdue. He's listed as 6'5" 212 lbs, #13 prospect in ILL.

Badie didn't say we lead for him. He said we're in his top five but that he doesn't have a leader right now.

We are definitely gonna get a couple linebackers this cycle.

With our new DC we should pull in very good LBs in 2022 or in 2023 at least. I hope the coaching staff uses videos of the interview after the Wisconsin game along with the locker room video of coach Allen body surfing when they can visit the recruits/families once again.

Surprised we didn't get more interest this past year from players at IMG Academy since we have a connection there now.

Although he's got good connects up at IMG, he's still just the TE coach here, so he wouldn't be spending a lot of time with the majority of the kids on the team when they come here. Position coaches are very important to kids, so Wright being a TE coach isn't going to help us a whole lot with someone on the defensive side of the ball.

Plus we've been building relationships with last years class for a couple years and had identified who we wanted. We had basically completed 95% of the class before the season started.

I would think though that the former HC at IMG would have some insights from his former assistants on who IU should be looking at?

I've updated the list by adding a good # of prospects, and adding Rivals & 247 state rankings when the prospects are ranked.

To remind anyone reading, this isn't intended to be a comprehensive list of all offers......those are available on both the Rivals & 247 sites......it's intended to be a more limited list of prospects on whom we appear to have at least a decent shot.

And the list is not based on any personal knowledge....only what I've read, except when others have added personal notes./knowledge. So feel free to offer additions and subtractions.. Also, I made the changes pretty quickly, so I'm sure there are mistakes.....let me know if you see one.

When prospects commit to other schools, I will keep them on the list with a note to that effect. That's only happened once so far.....the OH WR who committed to Cincy.

I will add that we appear to be attempting to recruit much more highly ranked recruits, on average, than in previous years.......even if we are successful on some of these kids, they may take a while to decide. In the meantime, I would not be surprised to see some lower rated recruits commit.

When I see recruiting tweets of late, it still seems like we're going for more of the sleerper 3 stars than the 4 or 5 start players. That's okay and I trust the staff, but I hope they can "grow into their top 15 stature" and yes, with new DC and RB coaches, lean into going for the big dogs too!

Agreed...still seems to be a lot of the 5.5 - 5.7 players.

Here's the thing........I think most of our remaining offers will be kids in the 5.5-5.7 range. Right now, we have 245 offers out, per PEEG'S counting........last year it was 383.

The 4 & 5* guys are going to be offered first. If a school thinks a prospect will get 35-40 offers, they'll offer early to get a foot in the door. And, by definition, there are more "no-doubters" when you get to 5.8 & above.

Kaiden Turner, a three star linebacker from Arkansas, is committing today.

We're in the lead and barring something going wrong, we should get our first commit in the 22 class today.

I said on the premie board that he was one of my top five most wanted kids in the class because he just reminds me so much of Micah. Dude is a player.

He committed to IU!

Is he the guy who had a video posted of him running on a treadmill and it looked like he was going about 20mph? I remember that and it did too remind of me Micah M!

Looks aggressive, quick, intuitive.

He is smallish, and I don't see devastating hits. He'll need some additional strength & weight.

We're in the top 2 for 3 star safety Jaylen Lewis.

Don't get caught up in the message in the tweet. The author is a Oklahoma writer.

I've added him to the list. Rivals has him as a 6'2" S, Rivals as a CB. 175 lbs on both. #17 in TN by 247, #19 by Rivals. Rated 5.7 by Rivals. Has an amazing offer list, including most SEC schools.

I've also added Zach Chalmers, a 6'4" WR from Newberry SC. 247 also lists him as ATH. #10 in SC by 247, #13 by Rivals, although his offer list isn't nearly as impressive as Lewis....basically IU, Duke, Kansas, Wake, VA as best offers.

Also, Tommy McIntosh, a 6'4" 200 lbs WR out of Dewitt, Michigan. IVY League smart, best football offers IU, Cincy, Vandy. Also played S in HS. #30 247 in Michigan. Watched his highlights. Tall. Sneaky fast although somewhat lumbering. Didn't read the article, but looks like a guy who could grow into a TE in college.

Of other interest: Peggs site says IU has TE Brody Foley out of the Cincy area as a priority. 6'6" 230 lbs guy
#16 rated in OH by Rivals. Would love IU to het him.

Also, Denzel Moore, a 6'2" 220 lbs OLB in the 2023 class is a big wildcard. 247 doesn't rate 2023 yet but he looks like a 4 or 5* guy. Says IU & FSU are leading. He's very high on IU. Very religious kid.
