2022 Concerts/shows you are planning to see

Caught a fun act again Friday: Yacht Rock Revue in Raleigh. Seen them several times and it's just a good night of music and fun. Everyone singing and dancing along with the songs. It's like you turned on the radio in 1982, but it's live. Good fun vibe; Christopher Cross and Hall and Oates meets Jimmy Buffet.

Saw Billy Strings and have tickets for JJ Grey & Mofro in June

I had the pleasure of seeing JJGrey & Mofro just before the pandemic started and was very impressed. I was not familiar at all with their music & a buddy convinced me I would be very surprised (in a positive way) & I was. After seeing them I wonder why they haven't / don't get much buzz? I'd see them again, for sure.

Been listening to them for 8-10 years … first concert able to make in my area. Excited about it for sure.

Wife and I are doing Sting at The Palladium. We totally lucked out on that one and got killer seats too. 2 minutes before tix went on sale, online, she had two box seats in the cart and was able to check out. 2 minutes later it was sold out and there were a bunch of pizzed peeps. I think they screwed that up. But, their mistake was our gift :)

Thought about Little Feat. We saw them at Cains Ballroom in Tulsa in 95. IDK who is still in the band but they are coming to Nashville Indiana and doing the entire Waiting For Columbus soundtrack. They certainly won't have the Tower of Power horn section, but still a thought.

Also doing Black Keys at Ruoff. Im still pissed that they were booked with Gary Clark and then covid hit and....Arrrggghhhh Really wanted to see that one.

Yo @MyTeamIsOnTheFloor Charlie Crockett is playing the Outlaw Music festival Ruoff (Deer Creek). Jason Isbell and Nathaniel Ratliff are also on the bill. And of course Willy…side not on Willy his sister who played piano with the ass long hair passed away this year. Pretty sad as she was really talented and added much to the band.

Just knocked out 2 birds with 1 stone: bought tix to Jamey Johnson and Blackberry Smoke on my bday: Saturday August 27 at the NC Music Factory in Charlotte. Great venue, hope it's not Hades hot, but probably will be. Still, live music in a nice outdoor venue with a little tailgating sounds like a good way to spend a bday.

I'd bought tix to both but couldn't go, over the last year due to covid issues. Think Blackberry Smoke actually cancelled and refunded after a bandmember got Covid.

Dead & Co
George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic, shockingly at Clowes Hall
John Hiatt/Buddy Guy
Jack White

I'm also considering a Phish or DMB show, but don't know that I have the energy needed for either....

But I surprisingly started off by taking the wife to Bon Jovi. I've never really known anything about him except for watching drunk girls sing along with some of his songs and I doubt I bother to know anything further after seeing him.

It was much heavier metal that I expected, but it kind of felt like when I used to take my Mother to Andy Williams and Neil Diamond. A bunch of people having fun, but I didn't quite get it.

Add Blackberry Smoke on July 31 to the list in Nashville, IN - that will be a great show!
I'm seeing them on Aug 27 in Charlotte w Jamey Johnson. Had bought tix to both during pandemic and cancelled both, so 2 birds with 1 stone.... and its my bday!

Can't keep track of what I've included in this post, but also got tix to see DBT in Charlotte in August too.

Just starting to go to concerts again. What shows have you gotten tickets to since music is starting back up? In 2021 I got tix to Jamey Johnson, Blackberry Smoke and Straight No Chaser last year and ended up not being able to go to any due to covid issues. Did go see Psychedelic Furs locally. This year I bought tix to Yacht Rock Revue, Flogging Molly and Whiskey Myers. I boycott many of the bigger shows locally because I hate the big outdoor concert venue in Charlotte due to the horrendous traffic and parking mess, so I only go to shows there once in a blue moon.

What shows are you planning to see in 2022?
The Eagles,

JUST an FYI...Friend of mine just called and said Reverend Horton Heat is gonna be here in Indy tomorrow night... Emerson Theatre in case anyone is interested.

My 15 year old wanted to go see Nelly last night in Fort Wayne. It was her first concert ever. She looked annoyed the whole night. Truth be told, she cost me $70. Her mom and I had a blast living out our 20s all over again though.

Good night had by all, except our daughter.
Ahhh 15. I can only imagine. I got used to...bring a freind. That usually changes the tude. :)

I'm curious, you seem so hateful of country, who do you think is a good country artist, today or in the past? I agree there is a lot of crap country out there, but to me as a non-musician, it seems to be less complex and simpler musically anyway, no? You mentioned Steve Earle and he often gets put under the country label, even though outside of Copperhead Road he never gets played on country stations, what about guys like Tyler Childers, Marcus King (about as country to me as Steve Earle), Sturgill Simpson, or even Yoakam or Stapleton who have had pretty good commercial success, all of whom I think are pretty talented artists. Just curious if it's the artist or the genre for you.
Not country music per se but I saw Son Volt is playing the ‘Bird this summer.

I like both those guys music, and don't really keep up with country music, but it does seem like Sturgill Simpson turns alot of folks off... and Tyler Childers is super popular, especially in KY. I'm sure lots of folks were just Tyler Childers fans, and isn't Simpson fairly outspoken politically? Seems like I've heard he champions what some might view as left wing causes. I tried googling it and surprised to see he was also raised in KY, so you'd have thought a Rupp crowd would have loved him too.

PS, did Childers play "Follow you to Virgie", and if so, explain anything about the origins of that song? I had a friend in middle school who died of leukemia and that song always reminds me of her and wondered if he'd had someone he knew growing up die young as well?

This video explains it.

I’ve been to Virgie. It’s one of hundreds of little single-mine coal towns DEEP in Appalachia. It’s just off of Route 23 (insert Dwight Yoakam song here). It’s about 10 miles from the Virginia border.

Paintsville High, huh. Think that's where John Pelphrey went. I saw him in the 1987 IN vs KY all star game. He could barely dribble and chew gum and then fast forward a few years later and Slick Rick had him dribbling between his legs and shooting 3s. Couldn't imagine him making it at UK and probably wouldn't have during any other period. What'd they call those guys: the Unforgettables? I forgot!

Thanks for posting, always like to hear the story for such songs.

Todd May - also a UK player - was from Virgie.

Just bought tix to Marcus King at a small venue here in Charlotte in October. Also got tix in December to see comedian Nate Bargatze. So, I think my remaining shows at the moment are: Whiskey Myers, Jamey Johnson/Blackberry Smoke, Drive By Truckers, Marcus King and Nate Bargatze. Also going to a bluegrass festival next weekend in Hot Springs NC. Glad to see live shows back!

So I have Sammy Hagar & the Circle, Billy Joel and Jackson Browne in hand, with a couple of others under consideration. I can't make the rescheduled Emmylou Harris show (again - palm to face)

Considering a Vegas show or two later in the year. We will see how things develop.
A show coupled with an IU/Arizona BBall game would be a great two-fer.

My wife’s mom absolutely loved Heart. The 2 always wanted to see them together but her mom died in a car accident in 2019. So the wife wants to go see them in New York in July.

She asked me if I wanted to go but I said maybe it would be a good trip for her and our youngest daughter so the 2 of them are going.

It’s totally not because I can’t stand Heart.

I saw Heart in the 80's... can't remember who they were warming up for: ZZ Top? It was very OK. Nancy > Ann.

I saw Heart at Assembly Hall on the "Dog & Butterfly" tour.

I really enjoyed them as they played a lot of their first two albums, my favorites were "White lightening & Wine" and "Love Alive".

They did they did the obligatory Led Zep cover for their first encore & chose "Rock and Roll" Any of my IU homies there with me back in the day?

Oh, and you are spot on: Nancy > Ann

Good energy and fronted by a couple of chicas, one of which was hot and one... well.... very OK? Good performers, I just didn't love their music and wouldn't have gone just to see them.

Back in he 80s, in Vegas I worked (as a sportsbook runner) for a guy named Harold Van Hoose who had made money in coal and was a bookie back in Paintsville. This was about the time that Rick first came to pUKe, and Harold's son had actually tried out for that team which may have been a year prior to Pelphrey and that bunch.

It's so far back and I can't remember details, but it's likely they went back to Kentucky after blowing thru their gambling money. Later I met a guy named Don Benge who owned Don's Furniture on Lafayette Rd in Indy, and thru Don I met the one and only Art Schlichter. This was shortly before Art went back to Detroit to QB in the Arena League, and I spent the next two or three years getting money wired from Schlichter to make gambling plays nearly every day. Of course Art was basically stealing that money from teammates and their wives, and eventually he ended up in prison for the first of what became many imprisonments.

Never heard from Harold again, but I always figured he had to be related to the Van Hoose that came from those parts and ended up Mr Basketball for Kentucky back in the 90s.
