2022 Concerts/shows you are planning to see

I saw Buddy at the Louisville Palace.

Awesome.

Came offstage into the aisle I was sitting on and played about 2 feet from me.

We had a meaningful moment.

Gonna see the Mavericks at the Palace in July.

I plan to honky tonk in Nashville for my first post-Covid debauch.
Saw the Mavericks in Brown County a few weeks ago. Deliberately got seats last row on the main level by the sound board. That way we could dance the entire show without pissing off anyone behind us. I've always known Raul Malo had an amazing voice, but hearing him in person was just astounding. One of the new songs they've recorded in Spanish had me in tears, and I had no idea what the hell he was singing about!

Love this

Chicago with Brian Wilson and Al Jardine. I have never seen Brian Wilson. This could be my last chance. I am not sure what he has left. I understand he cannot sing falsetto any more.

Outside of Combs who was just the headliner and not my reasoning for going... what is wrong w Zach Bryan, Cody Jinks and Tyler Childers?

do you really want to pick at that scab? ... formula "pop" country, no-talent hacks acting as puppet heads on stage, blah, blah, blah.

I actually think there's a pretty good group of "creatives" right now in country music, like T Childers, Marcus King, B Strings, etc... and then other acts like DBT that make good music and probably several others I'm forgetting or need to listen to.

I like Marcus King but I consider him southern rock not country

a lot of the folks I like cross that border a bit, and always have. I can generally tell who I like, if they are identified as country but can't find a spot on country radio. Quite a few folks I could lump in to that category: Dwight, REK, Steve Earle, DBT, and now Blackberry Smoke and Whiskey Myers. Lyle Lovett too.

I just saw him with Jerry Douglas Band - he’s reunited with The Goners (including Sonny Landreth) on this tour. I’ve never seen him with Landreth. Dirty Knobs - very cool! I’d like to see them some time. Mike Campbell is such an underrated guitarist. I just saw Sammy and the Circle at the Ryman - no idea how his voice still sounds that good at 74.
Thought I jot a quick note as I did see Dirty Knobs last night at the Hi-Fi.

They ARE a rock-n-roll band - VBG.

Very crowded & not an ideal setting comfort wise, but fantastic to see uber talented musicians in a setting of only 400. Mike Campbell really let the fun side of his personality shine through. I would catch them again, for sure.

For you TPATH fans, they did cover "Southern Accents" & along their 1st two encores were "You Wreck Me" & " Fooled Again" so that was great.

I just don't have time today for a full review, but I was more impressed than I thought I'd be, not knowing the details of their music.

Go see them.

Where's the HiFi. Thought I'd seen they were coming to Charlotte area somewhere, but just checked and most dates are west coast it looks like.

Hi-Fi is the old GC Murphy building in the Fountain Square, neighborhood just SE of downtown Indy. they have an outdoor area called the Annex as well, which will re-open later in the year.

Inside is stand-up only, & they had to be nervous about a fire marshal drop-in last night. Jammed packed.

Thanks for the review - I've watched a lot of video online of the Dirty Knobs and like what I've seen quite a bit. Mike's voice even sounds a little bit like TP's at times on certain songs. I need to try to see them - they haven't left southern California in quite some time so it's good to see them out travelling again.

We used to squeeze 400 in the Patio for sold out shows and I don’t feel like the Hi-Fi is as big. I’m hitting two Annex shows this summer with my daughter.

The HiFi is fine but just has zero character. It feels like the “club” in the TV show. Like it was a set. I hate that Radio Radio doesn’t get squat for shows anymore. I love that venue.

Have you seen a show at Dukes? Legit honky tonk. The unfortunate passing of the very passionate owner has really been a downer though.

Radio Radio had a good vibe and an interesting clientele, but there really isn't a good seat in the house.

when i lived in Indy i enjoyed going there anyway a couple times a yr, but would have much preferred they put the stage in the NE corner of the place, where it literally is a much bigger room, and the stage would have been visible from the bar as well.

iirc, the front part might be a higher ceiling as well compared to the back of the narrow part, and if so, they could have the stage at least a foot higher, which would help a lot as well.

Took the family tonight to see Elton John. At 75 years old the guy is still an incredible performer. His band was pretty amazing. His longtime drummer Nigel and percussionist were amazing.
Thought the same. Hope I have the energy he does when I am 75.

Yes, Mike even started the show by saying:

"We are a rock-n-roll band from California, and have come to rock your soul & boogie your brain, they call us the Dirty Knobs - and we sound like this.... "

then ripped into the opening chords of "Wicked Mind".

His voice was (at times) very reminiscent of TP. Must be the Northern Fla accent.

Good point. I hit a lot of shows at both the Vogue & the Patio back in my youth (80's/early 90's mostly) and the Hi-Fi certainly feels smaller to me. Haven't done an Annex show yet but looking forward to seeing sometime this summer as well.

If you were a fan of the Patio you’d probably enjoy either of the Built to Spill or Guided By Voices shows.

Just starting to go to concerts again. What shows have you gotten tickets to since music is starting back up? In 2021 I got tix to Jamey Johnson, Blackberry Smoke and Straight No Chaser last year and ended up not being able to go to any due to covid issues. Did go see Psychedelic Furs locally. This year I bought tix to Yacht Rock Revue, Flogging Molly and Whiskey Myers. I boycott many of the bigger shows locally because I hate the big outdoor concert venue in Charlotte due to the horrendous traffic and parking mess, so I only go to shows there once in a blue moon.

What shows are you planning to see in 2022?
Clint Black.. Confederate Railroad. Brooks & Dunn in May 🤪

Bought tix to see Drive By Truckers this summer also and think I'm going to get tix to see the Wailers next month; anyone seen them recently? Think it's a totally different lineup but I still hear good things.. but maybe it's just cause I want to see them and love reggae!

Robert Earl Keene I guess is on his farewell tour, but I've had a mixed bag with him. The last couple shows I've seen I thought he sounded bad/tired. Tix are $85 for general admission at a local bar and I can't bring msyelf to pay that for what I see as a really great live bar band. Sorry Robert, the Road will have to go one forever without me this time! I'm staying home!

PS, thanks for note about the Dirty Knobs, enjoying listening to them. TP with an edge seems like an apt description.

We've only seen Badfish (sublime cover band) so far at the Clyde in Fort Wayne.

We had tickets for Govt Mule but that got canceled.

We're gonna go see the Revivalists in Chicago and a band called Twiddle in Detroit. Also gonna see Van Morrison in May in Chicago.

My daughter wants to see Nelly in May so we'll be going to that as well.

Busy schedule coming up.

From the listed. Flogging Molly's, Buddy Guy, Steve Earle ... would be worth catching. Molly's don't sound very good live though. Not many do ..

Lot of old acts that should have retired 20 years ago ..

The Nashville country some of these people listen to only shows how musically ignorant they are. I still can't believe people can't see through the façade and actually pay to watch manufactured clown acts ..
😂

Scrolling through this thread I thought “there is no way TMP won’t be in here calling people ignorant rubes for the music they like” and sure enough, here you are.

I can only tolerate crowds for one show per year, and it’s going to Rage Against the Machine/Run the Jewels I think

I've seen the Drive By Truckers twice - the last time was right before the pandemic. First time was years ago when Jason Isbell was still in the group and they opened for Tom Petty. I'd pay to see DBT again for sure - really good songwriters and musicians.

Was considering the Van show myself.

If he is "on" you will have one of the best concert experiences ever. (You didn't mention whether you'd seen him before or not) If you haven't seen him and are familiar with his deep catalogue you will be rewarded.

Unfortunately, the casual fan expects a greatest hits rendition and he won't provide that, though he usually plays a scattering of "known" songs.

There are very few musicians I consider living legends - he is one of the few.

He is on my girlfriends bucket list. I'm a fan, but nothing like her. She knows almost all his stuff.

I'm excited, but nothing to the level of her. I'm definitely getting points for taking her to this show. 😄

Have Whitey Morgan and the 78s at the Vogue tomorrow night. That will be a real honky tonk show. A bunch of huge dudes from Flint, MI who look like the Sons of Anarchy. Never fail to put on a great show. Real professionals.

My daughter has become a pretty big Tame Impala fan, so I'm taking her to see them/him in Columbus later next month. I saw them in DC at the 9:30 Club awhile back and I thought it was a good show then, so I'm excited to see them again.

I'm curious, you seem so hateful of country, who do you think is a good country artist, today or in the past? I agree there is a lot of crap country out there, but to me as a non-musician, it seems to be less complex and simpler musically anyway, no? You mentioned Steve Earle and he often gets put under the country label, even though outside of Copperhead Road he never gets played on country stations, what about guys like Tyler Childers, Marcus King (about as country to me as Steve Earle), Sturgill Simpson, or even Yoakam or Stapleton who have had pretty good commercial success, all of whom I think are pretty talented artists. Just curious if it's the artist or the genre for you.
