Big Ten Coaches Talk Anonymously About Conference Foes for 2024

Indiana

“There’s a lot of talk about the program for the first time since any of us can remember."

"Cig [Curt Cignetti] is a really good hire; it shows that the school wants to be competitive and respectable in football. They’re taking football seriously in NIL, too."

"They brought in a few studs from James Madison, and they’ve worked the portal well."

"The competition level in this league is still above them, but they should look more talented, especially on offense. The MAC quarterback [Kurtis Rourke] is pretty solid."

"If you’re setting reasonable Year 1 expectations, I’d look for them to build an offensive identity to help recruiting

US economy adds 353,000 jobs in January

  • The increase in jobs last month easily beat the market estimate and underscores the remarkable strength of the US labor market.
  • The unemployment rate stayed at 3.7%, near the lowest level since the 1960s.
  • Hourly wages rose a sharp .6% in January, the biggest increase in almost two years.
  • The strong labor market has insulated the U.S. from a recession, and if the Fed cuts interest rates this year as expected, the economy could improve enough to stoke more hiring.
  • Inflation is now down to 3% year over year, moving closer to the Fed's goal of 2%.
  • There are almost 5 million more jobs than in Feb 2020 - - just before the pandemic.
  • "The United States has really outperformed relative to other countries for the past year." -Innes McFee, Chief Global Economist for Oxford Economics. The US economy has powered ahead of China, the EU, the UK, Canada and other advanced economies.
Great to see the economy humming in what is still the greatest country on earth.

Don’t f#ck this one up fellas. If Trump loses in November does this mean we get a lot of you Republicans back on the team? I’m trying to nail down numbers for Auburn. You’re all invited.

Coaches talk about top NCAA QBs - semi off topic

There's an article on ESPN (behind a paywall) that has quotes from coaches on the top 44 NCAA QBs. (https://www.espn.com/college-footba...024-quarterback-confidential-college-football)

I was going through the B1G section and couldn't stop reading this quote about the OSU QB in Tom Allen's voice.

"Haven't played against him, but watching him on film, the dual [threat] part of that is always scary," a Big Ten defensive coordinator said. "He can run, big, physical guy. Those are tough guys to deal with, especially when you wait to see what Chip [Kelly] does and the influence he has. The style of play with Chip and a guy that can run, that helps. But at the same time, Kansas State was kind of built that way, too. I don't think he's elite. I just think he's a tough, gritty kid. The jury's still out."

I get that it's supposed to be anonymous but he's got such a unique manner of speech. None of this is especially relevant to IU football, but made me chuckle.

FWIW, Rourke didn't make the ESPN cut. The others mentioned were: Gabriel @ Oregon, Allar @ PSU, Moss @ USC, Van Dyke @ Wisconsin, Rogers @ Washington, Card @ Purdue, & Chiles @ Mich. State.

Looks like Indiana Democrats don't practice what they preach...

Thought Democrats throughout the nation had advocated that the rest of learn to live on this type of fare "to save the planet"...

Seems they're not as interested in this type of meal when they might actually be the ones eating it...

One might even get the impression that they're phonies thru and thru...

Hunter Biden on trial

So the Biden admin appointed Special Counsel is moving ahead with felony charges against Hunter for lying on the checkoff form when he bought a gun, claiming he wasn't a drug user.

Have at it.

Across the pond

Could be fascinating election results in the UK today. Labour will definitely win in a landslide, but it's a question of how big of one, and also just how far the conservatives drop. There is a realistic scenario in which the Tories end up in fourth, behind the Lib Dems and Reform both (Reform is the hard right anti-immigration party that used to be the Brexit party).

Results start coming in around 6pm Eastern time.

Only bad stuff

Consider this the outrage thread. Does it turn your stomach? Post it here. Maybe we can decrease the number of such threads and just put all the "what the **** is wrong with the world" articles here.
